kata-irc-bot<niteshkonkar007> @jose.carlos.venegas.m: Power8 CI is not a blocker yet. Please go ahead with the release.06:14

kata-irc-bot<afrosi> hi, do you have any plan to use kata with podman? https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2018/11/20/buildah-podman-containers-without-daemons/07:25

gwhaleyhi @alice.frosi - I have vague memories that podman has been mentioned before, but I can't find any traces on github or in my archives.... but, maybe davidgiluk or stefanha will have a better insight into if/how podman and kata may mesh etc.09:38
davidgilukgwhaley: I did have podman basically working with kata at one point09:48
davidgiluk@alice.frosi / gwhaley: I've got a note saying that I just set /etc/containers/libpod.conf to have a runtime_path = [ "the/path/to/kata-runtime" ]09:49
davidgilukI do remember it had problems when I tried to start a 2nd container within the pod, but I never got into debugging that09:50
kata-irc-bot<afrosi> ok :slightly_smiling_face: They have a package called podman-docker that emulates the docker cli. It'll probably worthy in the future to test also on that or at least keep that in mind. I know that there're some  issue in testing kata on redhad because docker package was missing (https://github.com/kata-containers/ci/issues/3)09:54
davidgilukafrosi:Yep, I've got it in a fedora 2809:58
davidgilukthat issue mentions needing help with RHEL On Azure etc - if you're still waiting on that let us know and I'll find someone to help10:00

gwhaleyif podman is available on fedora, then all PRs to the CI system to add the tests (possibly as a new parallel jenkins job) are welcome ;-)10:27
gwhaleyso far we don't (afaik) have any CIs running on 'production distros' - that is, distros that require licenses (RHEL, SLES etc.) - mainly just due to time, resource and need - so far testing on their base systems (fedora, opensuse, ubuntu etc.) is good enough to rattle our cages ;-)10:28
davidgilukyes podman is on fedora; it's unlikely that I'd get around to adding the CI for it, but I'll look out for anyone10:36
davidgilukif you do need licenses etc then I'd hope we'd find a way to figure that out10:37

gwhaleyhi sameo, jcvenega - do you remember - did we not set CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE in the kernel for a reason? Rings a bell in my head, but I don't rememeber. It seems to be not set in our configs (but RELOCATABLE is)13:45
kata-irc-bot<eric.ernst> @afrosi - there is/was a but in devicemapper that was causing issues w podman+kata before, but it’s something we have looked at in past, and something that RH folks (Dan Walsh) had looked at before as well. Last we talked (earlier this month), he wanted to add kata support once bug was fixed.13:53

serverascodeunder https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/blob/master/Developer-Guide.md#build-a-custom-qemu  I'm not too sure what "cd $your_qemu_directory" means. (sorry, pretty new to this.)22:28
serverascodewould it mean if I had checked out qemu-lite from source?22:28

kata-irc-bot<raravena80> @serverascode that means if you for example clone https://github.com/qemu/qemu   in which case it would `cd qemu`22:52
serverascodeawesome, thank you. the same thing eventually dawned on me, thanks for your response :)22:54
