kata-irc-bot<georg.kunz> Hi all. I am running kata 1.11 with CLH and virtiofs. I am curious about the current state of virtiofs support: does it still require a specific kernel (like https://gitlab.com/virtio-fs/linux/-/tree/virtio-fs) or should every vanilla kernel > 5.6.x work too? I seem to get only the experimental kernel to work, but not a generic vanilla kernel. Thanks06:38

kata-irc-bot<fidencio> @bergwolf hey, I've seen some comments about no new features on 1.x branches.15:19
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> Would be really good to, if not done yet, have an official announcement about that15:19
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> In case it's done, would you mind sharing that?15:20
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> Linux 5.4+ should be enough.15:21
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> Not sure whether CLH has all the needed bits tho15:21
kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> Not yet. We’ve been talking about it several times during AC meetings but not documentation done yet.15:22
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> So, please, may I ask to have a document created, reviewed, and merged somewehre? It'd make everyone's life easier15:22
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> As people would actually have a place to check for the policy, and you can just post a single link saying "hey, it's been discussed here that new features must go to 2.x branch and, if needed, backported to 1.y"15:23
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> @bergwolf, I can open an issue for that, if you want to15:25
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> @bergwolf: https://github.com/kata-containers/community/issues/15715:31
kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> yes, definitely a doc makes more sense than promoting it on every PR. Any suggestion where to put it?15:33

kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> or maybe we should update the issue template for runtime/agent repos etc. to state that features and enhancement should go to the 2.0-dev branch?15:34
kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> I think we should do both, add a doc somewhere about the decision, and update the issue templates for runtime and agent repos15:36
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> I agree with both as well.15:36
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> That would save us time, IMHO15:37
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> Please, if you do the changes, feel free to point them at my direction for a review / ack!15:37
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> @bergwolf, thanks :slightly_smiling_face:15:38
kata-irc-bot<fidencio> About the "where to put it", maybe in the README of the repos could be a reasonable placE?15:39
kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> sounds good to me~ thanks @fidencio15:41

kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> @fidencio https://github.com/kata-containers/runtime/pull/271716:14
kata-irc-bot<bergwolf> I’ll add the same for other repos once this is approved/merged in the runtime repo16:14
