kata-irc-bot<johan.kuijpers> Looking at the history of various issues it seems that when kata-network cmd and related handling was removed from runtime, kata-netmon will not work properly either anymore when hotplugging nics into a container. Can perhaps someone confirm this please? Is it also correct that the plan has been to move this into the v2 shim but that this work has not been looked into yet or decided upon or do I overlook something here? Reason I'm10:34
kata-irc-botasking is that adding/removing nics for secondary networking is a rather important feature so I am curious to hear about the status around this issue. Thanks a lot in advance!10:34

kata-irc-bot<eric.ernst> If I recall correctly, netmon would call into kata-runtime to add interfaces, route information. When utilizing v2-shim, this pattern isn't fully supported any more, since the kata-runtime binary itself is no longer managing the sandbox, instead containerd-shim-kata-v2 is.16:30
kata-irc-bot<eric.ernst> What would need to happen is to either: 1.  augment the netmon and the containerd-shim to add API for communicating this info (ie, have netmon talk directly to containerd-shim-kata-v2), or 2. augment kata-runtime and contained-shim-kata-v2 to add API for updating route information. With Kata 2.0, we no longer offer a full featured kata-runtime binary, hence the drop in support.16:32
kata-irc-bot<eric.ernst> Since netmon runs 1:1 with a pod, IIRC, either of the above options would make sense to me.16:33
