kata-irc-bot | <alessandro.randazzo> quick question : I'm following the documentation guide and I has arrived at : sudo kata-runtime kata-check and I'm getting the error : file /usr/share/kata-containers/vmlinuz.container does not exist . Should I jump on https://github.com/kata-containers/packaging/tree/master/kernel#build-kata-containers-kernel and follow the instructions? Thanks | 08:10 |

kata-irc-bot | <gr> Random question - I seem to remember something about Kata working with one of the cut down HyperV hypervisors - was I imagining it? | 10:38 |
kata-irc-bot | <graham.whaley> @gr - does not ring any specific bells in my head - did you have something specific in mind? /cc @eric.ernst | 10:53 |
kata-irc-bot | <gr> It was just replacing KVM / Qemu with HyperV from what I remember, but I am doubting my recollection, as I can't find anything about it ... | 10:55 |

kata-irc-bot | <graham.whaley> @gr - afaik, kata does not/has never supported hyperv as the hypervisor it uses to contain the workloads. I guess a key problem is that hyperv runs on windows, and kata does not have windows support. The question has been asked a few times if kata will support windows - there are some missing components, such as the 'agent' that lives under the hypervisor and communicates back to the host. There would no doubt be other issues, | 12:41 |
kata-irc-bot | like setting up a hardware model like we have with qemu/virtio etc. | 12:41 |
kata-irc-bot | <graham.whaley> kata-qemu does run under hyperv hosts though (just to be clear) | 12:41 |
kata-irc-bot | <lpetrut> probably getting Kata to work on Windows using Qemu/WHP and Linux guests would not be that difficult. I think the guest agent can stay the same, while the minimum amount of required\ Qemu features would still be available on Windows | 12:47 |
kata-irc-bot | <lpetrut> for what is worth, we were considering building a lightweight emulator written in Rust on top of rust-vmm, even had a PoC based on a crosvm fork: https://github.com/petrutlucian94/crosvm integrating it with kata-containers was one of the end goals (along with providing a lightweight, modular, secure, windows compatible and open source qemu alternative). | 13:01 |
kata-irc-bot | <graham.whaley> interesting @lpetrut - /cc @samuel.ortiz @eric.ernst @sebastien.boeuf | 13:04 |
