kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> i'm struggling to find docs about using kata with cri-o | 14:11 |
---|---|---|
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> there's a `crio.runtime.runtimes` option | 14:12 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> ok this lives in CI but i dont seem to find any docs -- https://github.com/kata-containers/tests/blob/master/.ci/configure_crio_for_kata.sh | 14:12 |
kata-irc-bot | <salvador.fuentes> @mnaser, I think this is the link you are looking for: https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/blob/master/how-to/run-kata-with-k8s.md#cri-o | 14:14 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> @salvador.fuentes i think my confusion stemmed from the fact that the "run kata containers with kubernetes" didn't mention cri-o | 14:15 |
kata-irc-bot | <graham.whaley> I'll also throw in https://github.com/kata-containers/packaging/tree/master/kata-deploy - which may be the easiest/easier way to deploy, depending on your stackup... | 14:15 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> and the other options had specific run times | 14:15 |
kata-irc-bot | Action: graham.whaley bemoans that we *must* have better and easier to find k8s kata docs.... *must*.... | 14:15 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> cause that doc has both CRI-O and CRI with containerd | 14:16 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> but then there's another doc that covers CRI with containerd | 14:16 |
kata-irc-bot | <salvador.fuentes> yeah, I think we need to improve that | 14:17 |
kata-irc-bot | <salvador.fuentes> maybe separate the cri-o section into a new document and then make reference to it in the "run kata with kubernetes" doc? | 14:18 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/tree/master/how-to#kubernetes-integration given this is the "kuberntes integration" entry point | 14:18 |
kata-irc-bot | <mnaser> id say that the first one should be changed to "how to use Kata containers with CRI-O" and drop all the CRI/containerd references | 14:19 |

kata-irc-bot | <simon.kaegi> For the k8 docs... we found they were fine for getting started with containerd for a basic test but in retrospect wish it had been easier to find references to kata-deploy. The apt-get approach is fine for a POC but an approach that uses the actual releases an shows how to package it into our own images is definitely better. Although the DaemonSet for kata-deploy are not exactly what we use there is a ton of useful stuff there. | 15:32 |

zer0def | quick question - do Kata and CLH require anything specific other than the patched virtiofsd 0.3 that's appearing in kata-containers/packaging? getting a `error: 500 reason: VmAction(ResponseRecv(RecvError))` along with `virtio_loop: Unexpected poll revents 11` from virtiofsd with kernel 5.4.3, clh 0.4.0 and kata-runtime 1.10-rc0.r31-3ea682d6e0c42b46502e0c4bf839dc975c094fec: | 17:18 |
zer0def | https://paste.centos.org/view/dcb54cab | 17:18 |
zer0def | not sure whether i'm asking the question in the right place to begin with, since it might be an interaction between clh and virtiofsd | 17:20 |
gwhaley | zer0def: the other option would be the clh community (a number of who also sit in the kata community) - they are on slack it looks like: https://github.com/cloud-hypervisor/cloud-hypervisor#join-us | 17:25 |
gwhaley | but, reaching out here is not the wrong place - we just have to catch the right folks - this channel is mirrored to the kata slack, so it might be you get an answer overnight | 17:25 |
zer0def | grumble, i'm assuming no bridged irc channels for clh exists | 17:26 |
gwhaley | I didn't see a clh irc channel listed on their contacts page ... | 17:27 |
gwhaley | what we can do is @sboeuf ^^^ and ask (if he is still online) for any thoughts :-) | 17:27 |
zer0def | fingers crossed | 17:27 |
gwhaley | if that all fails zer0def, open a kata github issue, and we can pull in and cross populate on that. | 17:28 |
zer0def | with that said, i am using rootfs images shipped in f30's packaging for 1.10.0-rc0, that might be the only thing left unmentioned that i can think of right now | 17:29 |
zer0def | along with a whole lot of monkeying around to have PKGBUILDs building Kata components from src | 17:29 |

zer0def | ok, just pulled in the virtiofs kernel from kata's static distribution and that one works with kata-runtime master, clh 0.4.0 and virtiofsd 0.3 | 22:31 |
