opendevreviewIan Wienand proposed openstack/project-config master: infra-package-needs: don't require coreutils for Rocky Linux 8
opendevreviewMerged zuul/zuul-jobs master: encrypt-file : role to encrypt a file
Clark[m]ianw: there is a change to swap out coreutils-single with coreutils to better match non container installs. Is that not preferred here?21:41
ianwClark[m]: yeah, i saw that -- a we need to push that through the whole release and update nodepool path, but b) it *is* the containerfile element, so i wonder if we should be fiddling with that to satisfy opendev dependencies in what is at least theoretically a a generic role22:04

Clark[m]I think in this case using the non container package for stuff like that makes sense.22:13
Clark[m]But I don't know what the actual distinction in the package contents is22:14
ianwi don't believe there's any difference, other than it being a single binary v multiple binaries -- both packages satisfy the dependency for coreutils22:16
ianwthe thing is we're updating the containerfile based element to switch away from it's default package, which doesn't seem to make sense for the containerfile.  we could, i guess, switch it in our elements, but i'm not sure it's worth it22:17
fungiyeah, the difference is that coreutils-single merges all the coreutils binaries into a single executable which changes its behavior based on symlink names you call, rather than being independent executables, because large-scale deployments of containers need to save all the file count they can22:50
fungiand space22:50
fungiit's probably not a huge deal on a vm, and might make the image slightly smaller, though it'll also be another difference in the test platform compared to real server deployments22:51
