spotzAnyone about for the meeting?19:02
fungiyup19:03
spotzSweet19:04
spotz#startmeeting diversity-wg19:04
openstackMeeting started Mon Aug 13 19:04:25 2018 UTC and is due to finish in 60 minutes.  The chair is spotz. Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot.19:04
openstackUseful Commands: #action #agreed #help #info #idea #link #topic #startvote.19:04
openstackThe meeting name has been set to 'diversity_wg'19:04
cmurphyo/19:04
spotz#topic roll call19:04
spotzGive folks a few then we'll get started, pretty short agenda. I just wanted to catch folks up on where we're at19:05
spotz#topic Survey Update19:07
spotzI wrote up the initial draft of the email from a few meetings ago and aprice pointed out we should include up front the CHAOSS projects involvement with the survey. So I met with them and they're going to help us to analyze our data, they can host a copy of the data for sharing on their site, and basically help other Open Source communities by sharing our questions/results/etc.19:10
cmurphyawesome19:10
spotzFive members of CHAOSS have signed a confidentialty agreement in order to work with the data and I'll be meeting with them at OSSNA in a few weeks. Unfortunately I didn't realize CHAOSSConf was on Tuesday so I'm arriving too late in the day:(19:11
fungiexciting!19:11
spotzSo aprice has the new draft and once I get that back, I think we'll be good to email all the lists and get folks taking the survey finally!!!!19:12
spotzSo that's the state of the survey. Any questions?19:12
spotzOk moving on:)19:14
spotz#topic Asks of the foundation19:14
spotzThe alcohol free section should not be an issue in Berlin, there's currently really only one night planned right now with the marketplace mixer. I don't think we made the ask to include the PTG so not sure of the status there as it was kind of a short notice ask and planning was underway already19:15
spotzBecause when you sign up for summit you agree to be photographed the please no photos is a bit more of an issue. There's the one FNTech photographer who could be notified but there's no guarantees folks wouldn't be caught in a background show plus some sponsors/vendors bring their own photographers19:17
spotzI do know I agreed to photos when registering for OSSNA and that at least in LA they had the stickers so I said I would checkout how there were doing it.19:17
spotzAnd I asked about the possibility if we couldn't get thqt if we could get maybe the pronoun stickers19:18
spotzSo those were our official asks and the responses received. I know they're just really starting to get planning for Berlin so hopefully we'll here more back soon.19:19
fungiyeah, the no photos thing is usually more that when they're reviewing official photos for publication they can be aware to remove any photos which got someone with the indicated signal caught in the frame?19:19
fungii expect at most events with such a policy it's not that they go out of their way to avoid photographing you and more that they just delete the photos where you showed up19:20
fungibut yes, the registration agreement does include a blurb warning that you're likely to be photographed19:21
spotzfungi I think the issue would be if you could even see it in a group photo. And I'm not sure if folks would say not be ok with a picture of say you and me, cause I know you were for them and I don't care. But if you would be ok if you were in a background and there was no way to know for sure you had the identifier19:21
spotzOk that typed out less clear then in my head!19:22
fungiright, the identifiers have to be pretty darned visible and obnoxious for that to work19:22
spotzSo in one instance it's acknowledged and no photo but in the second you might still be in a shot19:23
fungiand certainly things like photos of the crowd seated in the keynote auditorium, there's just no way19:23
spotzYeah so I'm leaning on we may not get that which is why I asked if we could get the pronoun stickers. I'd like to see us get some wins no matter how small they might seem19:24
fungiabsolutely19:24
spotzleanderthal asked on twitter about child care at PTG and summit and was told it wasn't offered. She asked about if it could be done if they arranged it themselves and I never saw any replies to that. I'm sure there's some legal issues and not just here's a room19:25
spotzI'll hit her up in email and just get some closure on that19:25
fungiwould be good to know. do you happen to have a link to that discussion in twitter?19:27
spotzLast kinda summit ask type thing is the WoO Lunch. I know who the sponsor is but not sure if they've been approached yet to change it to a diversity lunch19:27
spotzfungi: I can look, last I saw it was the ask, me saying I'd ask in the UC meeting cause it was taking place, the answer and then Rain's offer. There could be more that wasn't on my feed though19:28
fungigot it. mostly curious if it was the event organizers saying it wasn't feasible, or just random people from the community trying to be helpful with answers19:29
spotzhttps://twitter.com/rainleander/status/102646940965166284919:30
spotzAnything else on asks for summit?19:31
fungithanks. i'll nudge someone to follow up to that19:32
spotzthanks fungi I appreciate19:33
spotz#topic PTG19:33
spotzDo we want to attempt to do anything there? Formally or informally? And it could be a hey meet the D&I group or us all get breakfast type thing19:34
spotzOr we can wave in the halls too:)19:35
* cmurphy will be around and happy to meet up19:35
spotzCool:)19:36
spotz#topic Open Discussion19:36
fungiyeah, i'll of course be present at the ptg, happy to participate in anything people want to work on diversity-wise just give me a heads up19:37
spotzOk only thing I've kinda got here is I saw some CoC wording changes like using reporter and reported vs victim/accuser.... If folks think it's worth revisiting the CoC we can make that our next larger task19:38
fungiwhere did you see coc wording changes?19:39
spotzIt was for another group not OPenStacks, I just kinda liked the lack of 'victim' in the use of different words19:40
spotzAnd I know we don't use victim persay19:40
fungisure, that terminology does carry some presumption19:41
spotzI was just thinking it might make someone more willing to say something if there was an issue. I've only really known of 1 my whole time in the community not to say there haven't been more19:42
fungii'm up for some discussion of polish on the coc, though we might want to rally some other people with a vested interest for that19:42
spotzYeah like I said it'd be more our next big project and getting folks involved:)19:42
fungithere are a fair number of coc violations reported but most are not public for obvious reasons19:42
spotz:(19:43
funginot nearly as many as i hear about in other communities, if that helps19:43
spotzYeah it does19:43
spotzNot that there should ever be any19:43
spotzAnd I think we have more turnout and participation when we have a project to work on:)19:44
fungiyes, absolutely19:44
fungimight be worth an ad-hoc discussion at the ptg even, if people present are up for it19:44
spotzI don't see why not, get a wilder view point on it even if it's a coffee chat19:45
spotzwider.. not wilder:(19:45
spotzI'll look into getting us a slot if possible or we'll do it during lunch/coffee but advertise that it's taking place19:46
spotzAnyone have anything else to bring up or discuss?19:46
fungiwell, there are rooms set aside at the ptg you can schedule on short notice too19:46
fungiand i'm told we have a few extra conference rooms on hand this time anyway, so there might be more of those than we usually have even19:47
spotzOh sweet. I've mainly been following the ops meetup and UC planning discussions19:47
fungiyeah, there's a ptgbot feature where you can basically book an ad-hoc room automatically through irc19:47
spotzOk I'll try to grab us one of those, though I think getting folks out of project or other allday things will be hard19:47
fungifor an hour, two hours...19:48
fungiyeah19:48
spotzI'll send a mail to the lists and see if folks are interested, maybe a poll for specific room/time, during a coffee, one day at lunch19:48
spotzas if yeah I think it needs to really be scheduled not Wed at 2 in the green room19:49
fungisounds good!19:49
spotzOk last call!19:49
