fungihey howdy!17:01
* SWDevAngel waves17:02
spotzWe also have the PTG planning meeting at this time but I didn't want to cancel as I did mention on the COmmunity call this meeting was taking place in the hopes of getting some of the other projects to join17:02
SWDevAngelCool. Has anyone else joined?17:03
* fungi looks around17:04
spotzI think just us17:04
fungi9 people in here, (and 4 bots)17:04
spotzBut at the same time this is a good place for folks to check in and just have social interaction:)17:04
fungiat least two of the people reported by /nicks are currently very busy with the ptg planning meeting too17:05
spotzmegheisler is usually the only one else who attends17:05
spotzSo keeping in mind no live PTG, I am intending to keep us on the schedule for a short meeting if there is room17:06
SWDevAngelSo - I just looked at the etherpad agenda. ;) I don't have anything to add unless we wanna talk about a plan for the OpenDev conf... it went virtual right? Does that mean all the tracks are back to the drawing board, since now it is more open to those who weren't going to be able to travel? I missed the Mktg meeting last week so I didn't hear what the plan was.17:07
fungii get the impression there is ample room in the virtual ptg for anyone who wants to meet17:07
spotzWith everything going on I'm not sure if we should reach out to the Foundation reps for the projects or hold off until the world settles again?17:07
fungiSWDevAngel: there is separate opendev virtual conference planning going on, it will no longer happen at the same time as the ptg17:08
spotzfungi: That's why I'm hoping to still get an hour or two for hopefully some of the projects to pop in17:08
SWDevAngelMy hunch is to hold off. A large percentage of peeps are very distracted at the moment (me incl.)17:08
fungithe original opendev track programming committees are being leaned on to help plan the virtual version17:08
SWDevAngelAhhh - got it @fungi. And okay, that makes a lot of sense.17:08
fungithere's also an announcement i think i can find and link to, just a sec17:09
SWDevAngelokay - cool.17:09
SWDevAngelI've been reading the emails Mark C sends out17:09
spotzYeah so at least for the time being except for except for just being here for people I think this group is kinda on hold17:09
SWDevAngelGot it. So, just so I'm clear, the PTG meeting will keep the same dates that Vancouver was but OpenDev will move to another time?17:10
spotzweehhee extra except fors:(17:11
spotzSWDevAngel: let me double check17:11

* SWDevAngel reading hang on17:11
spotzJune 1-517:11
spotzthat's PTG17:11
fungiso a week earlier than originally would have happened in yvr17:13
SWDevAngelOkay so on that link AND on the etherpad it refers to, it says, "OpenDev will happen after the Virtual PTG" .... so.... June 6-8? Or what?17:14
SWDevAngel(It didn't list any dates)17:14
spotzThey may not have dates yet then17:14
fungidates not yet identified17:14
fungi"sometime" after the ptg17:14
fungiprobably not "immediately" after the ptg17:14
spotzDo we want to keep the log open?17:15
SWDevAngelI LOVE the containers in production track. The past 3 summits that was my exact presentation (Kubernetes-based). If there's a CFP I could actually put together a decent presentation. Maybe I could even find some Kata in Prod out there. :)17:15
spotzI think it's more moderated sessions but not necessarily CFP17:16
SWDevAngel(I'm assuming that the OpenDev summit will be focused on OpenStack Foundation projects, or at least give priority to, for the talks?)17:16
spotzMost likely but not sure17:16
fungiit's not an opendev summit, just an opendev conference (similar to the prior ones which were held on "edge" and "ci/cd")17:17
SWDevAngelAhhhh interesting. Okay, I'll keep an eye on that etherpad and see where they are going with it and where I can help.17:17

spotzOk didn't want to just fill a log with chat and take up space17:18
* fungi thought that was part of the meeting, oh well17:18
spotzex-SA hates filling disk space:)17:18
fungiso yeah, a volunteer set of programming committees for each track who find and recruit speakers on topics relevant to their track, though with more of a focus on group discussion, panels with a lot of time for q&a, et cetera17:19
SWDevAngelThanks @fungi I remember attending that OpenDev conf in SF. It was an awesome conference. :) (And a REALLY fun reunion of many of my favorite people! :)17:19
spotzhehehe It was and wasn't fungi as it was an open agenda17:19
fungigot it ;)17:19
fungithanks spotz!17:19
SWDevAngelOkay, when that Containers in Prod track chair is established I can reach out and help find great speakers/presenters if they need it. Most of my work over the last two years has focused on that topic.17:20
SWDevAngelBUT - my real question, for THIS meeting, was gonna be.... will there be a Diversity track, or talks?17:21
spotzI think Kendall Waters had sent out a form to sign up on17:21
SWDevAngelOr just a conscious effort to weave Diversity throughout the conferece?17:21
SWDevAngelconference17:21
spotzI had asked for space during the PTG, I didn't see a place where we'd fit in for OpenDev as it seemed like set tracks17:22
SWDevAngelOkay. I see.17:23
spotzAnd of course for live events there's always the chance of a lunch or other social event17:24
SWDevAngelThat's kinda gonna be my question to A LOT of these conferences that are now going virtual. What about the "Diversity" and "Mentoring" and those elements of the conferences. Are they going to be relegated to happening only at shows like open source summit, scale, and grace hopper types of events, but never at specific technology events???17:24
spotzWell I think they'll come back in person, I think if there are CFPs they can be submitted. But at the same time they're not always well attended even live17:26
spotzI've never been to SCALE so don't know if they have a track. I'm assuming it'll still have a track at Open Source SUmmit. I'm not 100% sure GHC will happen this year though Orlando needs it17:27
SWDevAngelYeah. Kinda depends on the conference. the best attendance (from my experience) has been at conferences like Open Source Summit, OR at conferences that have ONE track (as in, one stage all day long). Smaller events like the OpenStack Days or Escape/19 or anything were everyone is in the same room, and then in the middle of the agenda there's a talk or panel that weaves D/I into the agenda. With no17:29
SWDevAngelcompeting track people stay in the room. (And then of course come up afterwards and say, "that was one of the best presentations of the day... really made me think... etc.)17:29
SWDevAngelI get it... it's a sneak attack!17:29
SWDevAngelWhat's the old saying??? "A little cultural education never hurt anyone that wasn't already hurt."17:30
spotzI haven't been to any one track events so yeah you can through a talk in there and people will generally stay.17:30
SWDevAngelDid you ever attend the small OpenStack Days? This is also what I've tried to do with the OpenStack bday events... make them into mini conferences, or mega-meetups I guess.... full day or half day events. Sometimes there'll be a breakout workshop or some breakout sessions but most of the event in on one stage. Works really well for keeping people's attention. That's probably the place to focus on keeping17:32
SWDevAngelD/I into agendas for onw.17:32
SWDevAngelnow17:32
spotzI haven't had travel to get to the OpenStack Days17:33
SWDevAngelMentoring though.... maybe in the interim before the conferences come back, reiterate in newsletters etc. that if people are looking for mentors, we can help match people up, though the programs that exist?17:33
spotzIf people have the mental/emotional bandwidth then yes we could try to get mentoring back up and running17:36
SWDevAngelWe can talk more about including D/I into the one day conferences if you like. I've developed some mostly successful techniques for reaching out to conference organizers and  encouraging them to include a talk on D/I. (It's easiest if you get to them at a stage where the published speakers aren't reflecting a particularly diverse crowd on the website, etc.) You can remind them that the speakers should17:37
SWDevAngelmore accurately represent the community they serve. :)17:37
spotzWe can definitely look at that once they are being discussed again17:39
SWDevAngelAnyway, once events come back we'll revisit. In the meantime, I'll keep my eye out for this for the published virtual events . (i.e. Red Hat Summit.... do they still have their Women in Open Source event happening? I've asked about it but haven't received an answer.) It's these areas where I encourage this team to keep pushing. (Not just for OpenStack Foundation events, but for all events!)17:39
spotzRH Summit is having I believe 2 events17:39
SWDevAngelSame with IBM Think, Google Next, etc.17:39
spotzWomen's Leadership Community virtual event and Women in Open Source live Q&A17:40
SWDevAngelThose are part of RH Summit later this month? Or separate events?17:40
spotzpart of RH summit17:40
SWDevAngelAwesome!17:40
spotzthe firs is on the NA+LATAM schedule and the second on the EMEA17:41
