tomtom001Hello, I have followed the guide here: https://docs.openstack.org/neutron/queens/admin/config-dns-int-ext-serv.html  for my queens setup, but I am unable to get the port to publish A records automatically as in Use Case 3.  I have looked through neutron, designate, and nova logs bug don't see any references to the port fqdn, is there a definite log I could look at to tell where it might be15:43
tomtom001trying19:2315:43
tomtom001tomtom001to publish this port but is running into an error?15:43
tomtom001sipior: did you get that automatic enrollment process working?  The link I posted above should work according to use case #3.15:44
tomtom001frickler Yes I created a network and assigned a DNS name to it that I wanted hosts on that network to use, but didn't get the automatic enrollment.15:45
tomtom001I think what I'm looking for is a log that will show me the request for enrollment into DNS when an instance is created.... Would that be a nova log? or a designate log?15:48
tomtom001That way then I'd have a better idea of where I was making any mistakes15:48
sipiorthanks for following up, tomtom001. i was indeed following the document you pointed to. it might be worth just laying out my situation: i've got a single provider network, and attach all VMs to that. i'd like each of my projects to be able to register a dns entry in its own subdomain. my current understanding is that to do that, they must each have their own network (each network can apparently have15:50
sipioronly a single dns_domain entry)15:50
sipiorright now, i'm playing with subnet pools and the "get me a network" functionality. the plan is to shrink the provider network subnet and replace it with a series of networks drawn from the subnet pool. and then assign each of *those* its own dns_domain.15:51
sipiorwe'll see how that goes.15:51
sipiori should say that i had this working before, but only with a single project. as usual i couldn't leave well enough alone :-)15:53
tomtom001so you attached the dns name to the subnet?16:04
tomtom001sipior, so you attached the dns name to the subnet - I attached it to the network16:04
sipiorsorry, i was being imprecise. the current plan is to make a subnet pool, and then use "get me a network" to allocate the network, and then modify the dns_domain for each auto-allocated network.16:07
sipiori should say that i haven't got it working yet; it may be a fool's errand :-)16:07
tomtom001sipior did you follow that guide above to get it working with the auto enrollment the first time??  I've not been able to get auto enrollment working yet.16:19
tomtom001that's why I'm asking16:19
sipioryes, i did. but i had to modify a designate source file to permit dns enrollment from an "external" network.16:20
sipioris that your case as well?16:20
tomtom001Yes, I might have to do the same thing you did16:22
sipiorthe file in question is /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/neutron/plugins/ml2/extensions/dns_integration.py16:22
sipiorhave a look for "router:external"16:22
tomtom001ok, let me look that over, thanks for the tip!!16:23
tomtom001sipior: so is that source file from designate or from neutron??16:28
sipiorneutron16:28
tomtom001ok thanks!!16:29
tomtom001sipior: would you mind sharing that piece of code as you have it modified in paste.openstack.org?16:33
*** ginopc has quit IRC16:33
sipioroh, it's real simple, tomtom001: "if network['router:external']:" should default to return True. make it return False :-)16:38
tomtom001sipior: oh ok, yeah I see that it returns to True, make it return False got it.16:39
tomtom001thank you so much!16:39
sipiorgood luck, hope it works for you16:39
tomtom001me too, we'll see what happens16:39
