abhishek_also included gouthamr in cc11:25
ianychoiHi abhishek_, ack from an election official11:30
abhishek_ianychoi: hey, thank you, sorry for noise but just to be more precise, what possibility is acceptable here?11:32
ianychoiabhishek_: Would you kindly submit on his behalf? I need to check a little bit more and discuss with others possibly, but currently I am thinking your submission on his behalf so that TC appoints later considering this situation.11:33
abhishek_ianychoi: sure, thank you!!11:34
ianychoiExtension might not be a good idea, since especially this election, we have been accepting early nomination11:34
abhishek_ack, sounds good, I will submit the nomination on his behalf and mention the same in commit message11:35
abhishek_thank you again for considering11:35
ianychoiThank you too for raising the issue!11:36

fricklerianychoi: slaweq: any idea yet how to deal with the lack of candidate information on the election page (like partial names)? candidates might argue that an election would be unfair if their are presented only with their first name. also lack of IRC nicks prevents asking questions to candidates during the campaigning period12:17
abhishek_ianychoi: my efforts paid off finally, managed to reach cyril and get his ack on the nomination, he commented on the patch, thank you every one for your support and suggestions12:33
slaweqfrickler I will look why it is like that13:03
slaweqI wasn't aware13:03
fricklerslaweq: well it looks like the OIF API only returns partial data, like https://openinfra.org/a/community/members/25759 only shows my firstname, although the profile information is complete if I look at it while logged in13:07
fricklerfungi was trying to get this resolved by the foundations contractors, but it doesn't look like that will happen in time for the current election13:08
slaweqfrickler yes, I just checked that for some people OIF returns not full data, like e.g. https://openstackid-resources.openstack.org/api/public/v1/members?expand=groups%2Call_affiliations%2Call_affiliations.organization&filter%5B%5D=email%3D%3Doschwart%40redhat.com&filter%5B%5D=membership_type%3D%3DIndividual&relations=affiliations%2Cgroups13:40
slaweqThe only thing I can do with it on the election's tools side is to add e.g. email address if irc name is not available13:41
slaweqbut maybe fungi will have idea why it is not returning full data13:43
fricklermaybe something similar to https://opendev.org/openstack/election/src/branch/master/exceptions.txt will be needed to temporarily fill in the missing date13:44
frickler*data13:44
slaweqyes, I can add such exceptions tomorrow, after nomination will be closed to do it only once for all candidates13:45
fungii'll follow up on the requested api fixes again and see if they might be able to get to them today14:11
fungias an aside, https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/election/+/957000 for cyborg ptl nomination is passing now14:21
fungigouthamr: ^ related to yesterday's discussion14:21
fungifrickler: here's the upshot. apparently there were legal complaints from users that the personal informaiton they entered into their foundaiton profiles was being made public, and as a result permissions controls have been added so that everyone now has to explicitly choose to share their last name, social media (including irc) handles, and similar data in the public api15:10
fungii'm trying to figure out for now if there's a quick workaround that doesn't involve every candidate going in and giving the system permission to share that information publicly15:11
fricklerwell it would be an option for me to do so, but I haven't anything that would allow for it. though I can check once again15:12
fricklernope, nothing to be found on https://openinfra.org/a/profile15:14
opendevreviewArnaud Morin proposed openstack/election master: Adding Arnaud Morin candidacy for Mistral  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/election/+/95794015:15
fungifrickler: apparently it's in the idp. i was looking the same place you were, so the idp integration being the interface for controlling this is sort of surprising15:23
fricklerwow, that's really weird. so I enter data on the OIF profile (which btw. is explicitly marked as "Public Information"), but my public profile shows something completely different?15:29
fungifrickler: yeah, at the moment it's controlled at https://id.openinfra.org/accounts/user/profile15:30
gmaanabhishek_: thanks15:31
frickleryes, I found that and it does indeed seem to work. so at least there is a workaround (cc slaweq ianychoi )15:32
fricklerftr, I checkmarked "Show Full name on Public Profile?" and "Show Social Media Info on Public Profile?"15:32
fricklerwill be interesting to see whether also the election page gets updated with that after the next change is merged15:33
fungifrickler: i'm still hashing out solutions with them, hopefully we won't need to explain to all the candidates how to go into their idp settings and switch those things on in the next 24 hours15:33
fungialso as an absolute last-resort solution, the html for the site is in afs and i can directly edit the file to correct the content, it'll just get reverted every time another change merges15:34
fricklerok, I just tested that both profile pages edit the same data, it is just that one of them is lacking some checkboxes15:36
fricklerthat's at least not quite as bad, though still unlucky UI15:36
fungiyeah, mine had "Show Full name on Public Profile?" checked already which is why it had my last name in the api response, but did not have "Show Social Media Info on Public Profile?" checked which is why my irc nick was missing15:38
frickleryeah, also maybe not completely obvious that "IRC nick" counts as "Social Media Info", which is why I was explicit about it, hoping it might help others15:41
fungiagreed, i think the labels were chosen by people who don't regularly use irc15:44
fungii've pointed out the contradiction between those fields being in a profile editor section labeled "public information" and then not sharing them by default for existing users (it looks like when the permission controls were added they did not get turned on for anyone who already had a profile, but did get set by default for anyone adding a new account after that point)15:59
fungithe social media fields, including irc handle, are also in the public information section but it's not clear yet if those are going to get turned on by default (my opinion is that they should, but i don't make that decision)16:01

fungiyes that should be fixed as of a few minutes ago, thanks for confirming!18:48
ianychoiAppreciate your active communication with corresponding team (e.g., webdev), fungi!18:50
