dansmithfungi: do you have ops on all our channels?15:56
dansmithwondering if you can kickban maeda from -glance15:57
dansmiththey're in a connect/disconnect loop and are pretty much destroying the linearity of multiple channels15:57
dansmithI already did nova but I don't have ops on glance15:57
fungidansmith: yes, i do16:09
fungii'll take care of it on both channels16:09
dansmithI already did nova, but would appreciate glance, thanks16:09
fungihttps://docs.opendev.org/opendev/system-config/latest/irc.html#banning-disruptive-users for reference16:10
dansmithcan I do akick as not an op?16:11
fungidansmith: no, but if you proposed adding your nick as an ops group member at https://opendev.org/openstack/project-config/src/branch/master/accessbot/channels.yaml#L186 then you could16:14
fungii'd basically just insta-approve that for future use16:14
dansmithyeah, I know.. i'm not sure what your point with the doc link is though.. is there some reason I should use akick instead of kickban?16:14
opendevreviewDan Smith proposed openstack/project-config master: Add dansmith as op for glance IRC channel  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/project-config/+/95227816:15
fungijust being clear about what process i'm followoing16:15
dansmithack16:15
dansmithfungi: seeing there are no glance ops I just proposed ^16:16
fungidoing it through chanserv keeps your nick out of the channel record, so it's a personal call16:16
dansmithah, I guess for cases like this it might not be so bad, given the person could reach out to me directly and explain if/that/when they have fixed it16:17
dansmithbut good to know16:17
fungiyeah, when it's a ban for malicious reasons you may not want to put yourself squarely in the corsshairs16:18
fungicrosshairs16:18
dansmithindeed16:18
opendevreviewMerged openstack/project-config master: Add dansmith as op for glance IRC channel  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/project-config/+/95227816:31
dansmithfungi: thanks, did the needful with my new powers16:47
fungidansmith: well, i'd already done it too16:58
dansmiththey were still in the channel when I did it so I assumed not16:59
dansmithI had to time waiting for them to pop back in so I could kickban16:59
clarkbworth noting since I'm not sure everyone is aware but some clients like weechat have what they call "smart filters" but these enable you to toggle on and off the viewing of the status messages rather than the old school filter and delete process16:59
dansmithdid you maybe get the wrong person?16:59
fungiyeah, looking back at the error log that nick wasn't registered so i should have used a mask17:00
fungitoo distracted to check the error buffer until just now, sorry17:00
dansmithno worries, better to not have to make you do it anyway17:00
fungiappreciated!17:01
dansmithclarkb: that's fine for individuals but doesn't help everyone else (or the logs)17:01
clarkbdansmith: I looked in our logs and we seem to filter them out the old school delete method17:01
clarkbbut yes any local logs are likely to be flooded17:01
fungiyeah, still good to block them, even if some clients are smart enough to filter the unwarranted noise17:02
dansmithoh I was sure they were in the public logs17:02
clarkbthey may have been at one time. I twouldn't surprise me if limnoria changed its default logging behavior around those messages17:02
clarkbhttps://meetings.opendev.org/irclogs/%23openstack-glance/%23openstack-glance.2025-06-10.log.html doesn't have the flapping through and neither does the plan log (just drop the .html from that url)17:03
dansmithyep, used to be in there: https://meetings.opendev.org/irclogs/%23openstack-glance/%23openstack-glance.2020-06-10.log.html17:04
dansmithand that's a good example of all the noise17:04
dansmithso ++ for the filtering there at least :)17:04
