| JayF | Do we have any medium-term plans to reduce/remove dependance on ubuntu-hosted services if the attack against them continue? | 19:16 |
| JayF | Not really their fault but it's having a significant impact on ability to work | 19:17 |
| JayF | https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/update-concerning-ddos-attack-on-canonical-and-ubuntu/81482/1 | 19:18 |
| clarkb | can you be more specific as to which services you're concerned about? There have been plans for various things some easier than others etc. But its pretty context specific | 19:31 |
| clarkb | I guess from where I'm sitting having been traveling last week and things working for me today so far I don't have the context of what people are hitting problems with | 19:32 |
| clarkb | but also we've been under ddos attacks too and struggled at times to correct. I'm not sure quickly shifting to $otherthing is a magic solution either | 19:33 |
| clarkb | on the testing side of things we already offer non ubuntu test environments to projects. And even if using ubuntu nodes we have mirrors which I think should be unaffected so package installations should laregly be unaffected. Launchapd for bug tracking is maybe the next big thing. Moving away from that would probably be a disussion for openstack itself more than this team? | 19:42 |
| clarkb | PPAs are also hosted on launchpad and some things may rely on them? We could in theory host packages ourselves for stuff like that maybe. There is also ubuntu one for sso whcih we haev a spec to replace with self hosted keycloak acting as an identity proxy for other identity systems including ubuntu one. | 19:42 |
| clarkb | Some tools may use snaps too I guess like microk8s? There are alternatives like kind that can be used instead | 19:42 |
| JayF | Launchpad, PPA, and Ubuntu one logins have been the places I've seen impact. | 19:51 |
| JayF | Of which, ubuntu one logins are really the only piece that are integrated with at an infra (not a project config) level | 19:52 |
| clarkb | so ya in the case of Ubuntu One we have this spec https://docs.opendev.org/opendev/infra-specs/latest/specs/central-auth.html to basically proxy to ubuntu one as an initial step that then enables us to use other providers | 19:54 |
| clarkb | unfortunately, figuring that out requires effort to make keycloak work against ubuntu one and then figure out how to actually migrate and everything so its been hard to work on with everything else going on | 19:54 |
