opendevreviewJulia Kreger proposed openstack/ironic master: Consolidate duplicated TLS code into ironic/common/tls_utils  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98790914:12
mumesan[m]Hey there, can I get some reviews on these -... (full message at <https://matrix.org/oftc/media/v1/media/download/AZRotYm92RIzWJHzugNgiOh7X1Q3UVuJ387QrpsRDnn4KVLDh0T_pffeYC_OoSOkj23cMmZ2hGYztJQ0DrF__n5Ceeg4rNNgAG1hdHJpeC5vcmcvY2hoZUNsZmlFbFJrSFJMc0J4RkxLUmlD>)14:16
TheJuliamumesan[m]: smaller messages are likely better ;)14:19
mumesan[m]Ah right sorry, I'm using matrix so it comes up as a single message, did it get parsed into single lines on an irc client TheJulia 14:19
TheJuliano worries :)14:20

mumesan[m]Sorry again 😅 i forgot it did that 14:20

TheJuliaYeah, doing so.14:30
TheJulialast call on https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/987441 unless we're all for lazy consensus ;)14:34
iurygregoryI think we are good to go with it14:36
TheJuliawe will likely want to backport, it walks a bit of a line, but as a hidden detail really14:38

Sandzwerg[m]Ohai wonderful people of ironic. I have a question regarding: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic/+bug/2121702 a colleague now had the idea to just add a auth_from_config=True here: https://opendev.org/openstack/ironic/src/branch/master/ironic/common/neutron.py#L305 Would that work? Do you have thoughts on this? (He also had another idea but one after the other)14:57
TheJuliaSandzwerg[m]: I likely don't have the time to dig/answer that before our weekly meeting14:59

TheJuliaclif: this looks like it was you, here is a shiny podium to speak from! :)15:08
clifHello, from what I can tell it's been a quiet week, with only one new bug reported15:09
clifTo ironic, but is more of an RFE15:09
clifso not much to report15:09
TheJuliaexcellent! Does that include sushy, ironic-python-agent, etc?15:10
clifPlease correct me if I missed something, but all other projects don't have a new/open open within the last week afaict15:10
clifyes, all other projects accounted for15:10
TheJuliacool15:10
clifso I'll hand it off again15:10
TheJuliaOkay, quiet weeks are always nice. Does anyone want to be the bug deputy for this next week?15:10
TheJuliaAlso, clif, the one you noted was more of an RFE, was that Dmitry's item added on Friday?15:11
iurygregorynext week or this week?15:11
clifTheJulia: Yes, this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic/+bug/215271815:11

TheJuliacid, okay, thanks!15:13
TheJuliadtantsur: would you like to discuss that item in RFE review, or was it you just getting a high level idea down into the bug tracker?15:14

dtantsuryeah, it was just a quick brain dump15:18
TheJuliaI guess everything is good and we have nothing else to discuss today15:19
cid++15:19
TheJuliaThis leaves the most critical question, who shall run our meeting next week ?15:20
iurygregoryI can15:20
TheJuliaOkay, thanks Iury, I'll update the agenda!15:21
TheJuliaAnd with that, have a great week everyone!15:21
opendevreviewDmitry Tantsur proposed openstack/ironic master: [WIP] Add a BMO job  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98876615:21
cardoestephenfin: https://opendev.org/openstack/python-ironicclient/src/commit/e5f25fd2a50bfc4c22507478fdb31698f1db6934/ironicclient/v1/runbook.py#L43 should that be Runbook instead of Resource? Looking at line 30 above it has Runbook as a type. Trying to figure out what the right thing is here.15:22

opendevreviewDmitry Tantsur proposed openstack/ironic master: DNM Science: try --ha in the IrSO job  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98876015:24
TheJuliaSandzwerg[m]: I guess that might work as proposed, as long as we know for sure its only called for ramdisk booting15:26
opendevreviewMerged openstack/sushy-tools master: Drop pbr from requirements  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/sushy-tools/+/98875215:27
Sandzwerg[m]The comment speaks about ramdisk so I'd assume that but I'm not sure myself. But the issue seems to be that when a human admin makes a state change from "clean failed" -> managed -> cleaning -> available the project context is used instead of system context. Or could that be related to our still custom & not RBAC ready policy? 15:30
TheJuliaYeah, thinking about it I suspect it should be system context because we're proxing through authority, the issue which comes to mind is flat networking15:31
TheJuliasince in flat, we try to re-use vifs15:31
TheJuliabut... well15:31
TheJuliayeah15:31
* TheJulia ponders15:31
opendevreviewIvan Anfimov proposed openstack/ironic-ui master: Restore explicit package list for module detection  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic-ui/+/98899715:36

opendevreviewIvan Anfimov proposed openstack/ironic-ui master: Restore explicit package list for module detection  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic-ui/+/98899715:37
TheJuliaSandzwerg[m]: I just gave my concerns/thoughts to claud and I'm letting it chew on them for a little bit. my concern over flat is likely misplaced, but its doing the code walking as well15:38
Sandzwerg[m]Alright15:39
opendevreviewMerged openstack/ironic master: Convert string values in BIOS settings before sending them to the BMC  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98846715:42
TheJuliaso, generally speaking claude agrees, but highlights we also need to update remove_neutron_ports. That being said, I'm having super strong deja vu and having it continue to dig15:43
stephenfincardoe: It should, yes. Though the base class doesn't expose a `get` method for some reason15:46
TheJuliaSandzwerg[m]: claude has convinced me, if you want to propose a patch for both methods, I'd +2 it15:48
opendevreviewMerged openstack/networking-generic-switch master: ci: add "vxlan" ci job  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/networking-generic-switch/+/98102415:54
opendevreviewJulia Kreger proposed openstack/networking-generic-switch master: Restructure admin documentation by topic and vendor  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/networking-generic-switch/+/98141815:57
cardoestephenfin: yeah I'm gonna clean that up16:04
opendevreviewDoug Goldstein proposed openstack/ironic stable/2026.1: Convert string values in BIOS settings before sending them to the BMC  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98899916:04
Sandzwerg[m]TheJulia: yeah, the colleague proposed that as well but I forgot to copy it here 😅16:06
opendevreviewDoug Goldstein proposed openstack/python-ironicclient master: fix incorrect annotation for list_ports method  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-ironicclient/+/98900016:07
Sandzwerg[m]TheJulia: We just tried it in our QA and it does seem to solve the issue. I'll test some more tomorrow and ask the colleague if he can open the PR (as it was his idea) but so far it looks good. Gosh I whish I've spent that time already  a year ago instead of suffering with the consequences for so long 🫠16:08
TheJuliaheh, okay :)16:08
opendevreviewDoug Goldstein proposed openstack/python-ironicclient master: remove pbr as runtime dependency  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-ironicclient/+/98900116:10
estherd[m]hroy: Absolutely, thank you. 16:19
opendevreviewJad Haj Yahya proposed openstack/ironic master: Fix Lenovo UEFI boot loop in prepare_instance flow  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98659716:19
TheJuliaJad_Haj: out of curiosity, have you taken that for a test yet on the hardware you have access to?16:24
cardoehot dang we've got a lot of code in python-ironicclient16:28
cardoeLike we've got a whole CrudManager class that seems unused. I dunno if that's something for openstacksdk or what.16:30
dtantsurcardoe: one of the things we always wanted and never did was to reap it all out and replace with openstacksdk for real..16:31
cardoeLike a lot of the apiclient directory seems unused and duplicated.16:31
dtantsurIIRC apiclient used to be cargo-culted around back in earlier OpenStack days16:31
dtantsur(few people here remember how before Oslo we just copy-pasted common code....)16:32
TheJuliaA fun exercise may be to ask claude to clean it up but not break the user interface16:32
dtantsur....wwwwow, my new BMO job just passed? ....16:33
* dtantsur happy dance16:33
TheJuliacongrats!16:35
opendevreviewMithun Krishnan Umesan proposed openstack/ironic master: Add TLS configuration to agent lookup response  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98788716:41
stephenfincardoe: if you're cleaning stuff up, I suspect the entire ironic.common.apiclient package could go. Looks like it was an import from oslo a long time ago and is basically unused. jfyi16:49
opendevreviewJulia Kreger proposed openstack/ironic-python-agent master: WIP: A software raid guard rail?  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic-python-agent/+/98900916:56
Jad_HajTheJulia: Actually i do not have access to Lenovo but i can ask the reporter of the bug to so. 16:56
TheJuliastephenfin: you caused my brain to go sideways for a moment until I realized it was ironicclient.common.apiclient you were referring to16:57
TheJuliaJad_Haj: okay, thanks!16:57
stephenfinTheJulia: oops, yeah 😅16:58
opendevreviewDmitry Tantsur proposed openstack/ironic master: [WIP] Add a BMO job  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98876617:00
cardoeTheJulia: dtantsur: if you're cool with what stephenfin is suggesting, I would likely make that change.17:39
cardoeIt looks like that code is an import like stephenfin said and has some old relationship to what openstacksdk has become.17:39
dtantsurif it works, I'm cool with it17:40
TheJuliaI could be good with that, my only real concern in all of that is if version negotiation is handled properly. I think we did get the baseline logic cleaned up and matching appropriately but... its been such a very very very long time I just don't remember17:40
cardoeI'm just looking to get the type stuff better... like ran into https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-ironicclient/+/98900017:44
cardoeUltimately we can get rid of a ton of duplicated code if we used CrudManager from apiclient but it's signature and process is all wrong.17:45
cardoeWe've got these "resource_class" and "_resource_name" and the helper functions use them if you don't specify it.17:46
opendevreviewDmitry Tantsur proposed openstack/ironic master: Document the Metal3 ironic-standalone-operator job  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98901417:46
TheJuliacardoe: likely why I would give it to an agent with a bunch of specific guardrails17:51
opendevreviewDoug Goldstein proposed openstack/python-ironicclient master: Remove dead code in apiclient module  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-ironicclient/+/98901618:22

opendevreviewDoug Goldstein proposed openstack/python-ironicclient master: remove pbr as runtime dependency  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-ironicclient/+/98900118:57
cardoeTheJulia: yeahhhh agent no happy19:40
TheJuliadid you give it digital ativan?19:40
cardoeDuring the add typing work we changed the common "Resource" class to inherit from apiclient instead of from ironicclient/v1/resource_fields.py19:41
TheJuliais the command to try and type it or re-shape it?19:45
cardoeI'm trying to type it19:46
cardoeWe've got a Resource class that's suppose to be a generic dict like thing that then there's specific versions of it to limit the parameters but we stopped inheriting from that so we stopped enforcing the checks.19:48
TheJuliaso, your trying to retype it to keep python types in place, maybe if we keep it for that, we just move straight to a major version bump20:50
TheJuliaalternatively, really everyone doing python clienty things should be using the sdk, but the library holds the underlying interaction logic for the cli and the original python client sdk20:50
TheJuliafor ironic itself20:50
cardoeI'm gonna put stuff in the openstacksdk20:52
cardoeYou wanna depend on openstacksdk?20:52
TheJuliawe're already dependent upon it20:54
cardoealright21:13
