Mahnoordtantsur: I did not backport this change upstream or downstream..do you mean about a release being cut in the middle? That must have happened for sure14:35
MahnoorI see 3 RFEs from this month without labels, do we normally mark RFEs as 'triaged' too?14:37

rpittauwe're at a god point with the Outreachy project, final rush has started15:09
iurygregorynot sure who added, or if there is something more required15:09
estherd[m]Thanks iurygregory15:09
rpittauestherd[m] anything you want to say? :)15:09
estherd[m]Hi everyone! I'm Esther, an Outreachy intern working with Riccardo (@rpittau) and Himanshu (@hroy) on enhancing Node History in Ironic.15:09
iurygregory\o/15:10
MahnoorHello Esther!15:10
estherd[m]Over the past few weeks, I've been working on adding more information to Node History, 15:10
estherd[m]including provision state, target provision state, transition duration, and user information. 15:10
estherd[m]I've also been validating the changes in a Bifrost environment and addressing review feedback.15:10
estherd[m]The Node History recording path has been validated. 15:10
estherd[m]I also tested the changes with the cleaning  workflow and confirmed that history entries15:10
estherd[m] are being created correctly.15:10
estherd[m]I'd like to hear about real-world use cases for Node History. 15:11
estherd[m]Are there any queries, summaries, or API filters that operators would find particularly useful?15:11
TheJuliaestherd[m]: you may want to raise that operator question to the openstack-discuss maailing list, just to widen the audience.15:12
estherd[m]TheJulia: Thanks 15:13
kubajjestherd[m]: We are a bit behind the versions - running Epoxy, but still find NodeHistory very useful - especially for those tricky nodes - it allows us to see what errors were raised by those nodes in past15:13
kubajjDoes node history still only record errors, or all transitions? (similar to server event log)15:14
estherd[m]kubajj: Thanks kubajj. Historically NodeHistory focused on errors and noteworthy events. The current changes are extending it to capture lifecycle transitions as well, including states, transition duration, and user information, so it can provide a more complete view of a node's history.15:15
kubajjestherd[m]: is there a plan for it to be enabled by a config flag? I could see my DB growing a lot with this :D15:16
estherd[m]kubajj: Yes, NodeHistory can be enabled/disabled through the [conductor]node_history config option. It is enabled by default, and there are cleanup options to manage retention. For the additional lifecycle records, I'll also keep this operational consideration in mind as the API improvements are discussed :)15:17
kubajjestherd[m]:  Ok, thanks. Good job so far15:18
estherd[m]kubajj: Thanks!15:18
iurygregoryare we good to move on?15:19
estherd[m]Also, if anyone has time to review patch 989994, I'd really appreciate any feedback: 15:19
estherd[m]#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/98999415:19
estherd[m]Thank you 15:19
iurygregoryack o/15:20
TheJuliakubajj: one of the key aspects that we encouage is to let the records prune off aggressively to prevent that db growth, but it is a trade-off in the end15:20
kubajjTheJulia: I should look into this, I don't know if we ever delete anything (until node deletion) :D15:21
TheJuliayeah, by default we roll records off like after a week, but yeah15:22
iurygregoryare we good to move on? 15:24
kubajjapparently, I have entries since 2024 :D15:24
kubajjiurygregory: yep15:24
iurygregoryack o/15:24
iurygregory#topic Bug Deputy Updates 15:25
MahnoorThere were 2 new bugs15:25
Mahnoorsoftware RAID created by ramdisks with kernel >= 6.19 (or CS9 5.14.0-71x with LBS backport) is unbootable on deployed OSes with older kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic-python-agent/+bug/2161704 15:25
TheJuliaI already closed one out for networking-baremetal15:25
MahnoorPerfect, thanks TheJulia15:26
MahnoorThat was going to be my next question15:26
MahnoorSecond one was https://bugs.launchpad.net/networking-baremetal/+bug/2161344, which Julia has closed as it has been fixed15:26
iurygregoryThank you Mahnoor !15:27
Mahnoorthere were no new RFEs this week, but I saw 3 RFEs from this month, and was wondering if we need to put labels?15:27
MahnoorE.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic/+bug/2160723 Or do I just leave them as-is?15:27
Mahnoor2nd one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic/+bug/2160651 and 3rd one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/networking-generic-switch/+bug/216101915:28
MahnoorAll 3 by TheJulia15:28
TheJuliaI'm updating them15:29
MahnoorAlrightie, thank you!15:29
MahnoorThats it from me15:29
iurygregoryI think I forgot to add the labels, last week  15:29
MahnoorNo worries, I thought maybe we dont triage them or wait for a spec 15:29
iurygregoryWho is the bug deputy for this week? \o/15:29
cidI can take it for this week.15:30
iurygregorythanks cid !15:31
iurygregory#info cid is the bug deputy this week15:31
iurygregoryskipping RFE review, since we don't have any new RFE15:31
iurygregory#topic Open discussion15:31
drannouI just posted a new RFE15:31
drannoubut may be we can discuss about it next week15:32
iurygregoryyeah, it will probably be picked by cid during the triage this week15:32
cid++15:32
ciddrannou, unless you have some details not in the RFE you want to share with us?15:33
iurygregoryAnything people would like to discuss, we are in Open Discussion now15:33
drannoucid: It's already implemented in our side. FYI I will leave OVH company end August (off days before) and would like to give this draft to the community before15:33
cidPlease go ahead15:34
drannouI will continue to maintenain it anyway.15:34
drannouThe RFE: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic-specs/+/99880515:34
drannoushort version: I already discuss with you 3 years ago. The idea is to propose a way for ironic to manage SED (Self encrypted drive) support15:36
TheJuliaI'll try to review it today15:36
drannouin short: during the deploy, Ironicgenerate an encryption key and send it to IPA, IPA apply it and continue the installation process. 15:36
drannouWhen the host is power off, disks are lock, Ironic catch that and power on the host on IPA, unlock the disk, and soft reboot15:37
drannouduring the clean, obvisouly we use the SED reset to clean the disks15:37
drannouyou will find eveything in the RFE15:37
cidAlright tks drannou.15:38
cidI will make time to review it. 15:38
drannouIf it's _more or less_ ok I will send the diff, of course it will be seen as "WIP" but we can iterate15:38
cidI will note I didn't find a Launchpad facing bug15:38
drannouhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ironic/+bug/203967615:39
cid\o/15:39
cidI think most feedback will likely come in the form of code review15:40
cidI can't help but remember a dicussion around encryption of some sort in the past as well15:40
drannouYes15:41
drannouThis is hardware encryption, not software. I started this code before you introduce the "soft" encryption.15:41
drannouNote: mdfr will help me to maintain this RFE15:42
mdfro>15:42
cid\o15:42
cidCool cool15:42
cid++. Thanks for the RFE. Maybe next discussion topic (if any) :)15:43
TheJuliaYeah, I'm not sure this fits into a default sort of flow, but overall could make sense for some operators15:43
iurygregoryany more topics we would like to discuss?15:44
TheJuliaespecially those who run public clouds15:44
iurygregory#topic Who is chairing the next meeting? 15:47
TheJuliaI can15:47
iurygregorythank you TheJulia o/15:47
iurygregorythanks everyone, that is all folks! \o/15:47

TheJuliadtantsur: if you have some cycles, please take a minute to review https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic-specs/+/998805 - Specifically I think you may be slightly interested to ensure there is a viable path for standalone usage. This is separate and entirely disjointed from the model of using LUKS and the TPM to unlock the encryption via LUKS. This is entirely hardware offloaded without the tpm being involved.17:24
