jeremyfreudbergtosky, feel free to add any status14:05
jeremyfreudbergierdem: we can use this time talk about your work and any problems you are facing14:06
tosky(not other points from me; we did release somehow!)14:07
ierdemok, i can explain sth about my work. I am trying to add CDH 6.3.2 plugin to Sahara. I faced some problems about that such as Python3.x incompatibilities14:08
jeremyfreudbergthanks for your efforts so far14:10
ierdemI have cloud which deployed with OSA and version is stable/train. Firstly, i started to change source codes cheating from v5.13.014:11
ierdemafter these changes, i tried to create and register image for CDH 6.3.2 but i could not test it yet because other services like heat gives error when i try to launch cluster. For now, i am debugging these errors and also i inform #openstack-sahara channel with this bugs and problems. All is this for now, thanks14:13
jeremyfreudbergok, thank you ierdem for that summary and for all your effort14:14
jeremyfreudbergierdem: i am going to open a bug on sahara storyboard to track the py3 (int-str) issue14:14
jeremyfreudbergbeyond that, i can try to help you debug heat issue14:14
ierdemI would be glad if you can, thanks14:16
jeremyfreudbergierdem: did you look at [trustee] in sahara.conf yet?14:18
jeremyfreudbergi feel that heat.conf is probably fine because you said murano is alreay working14:19
ierdemyes i checked it. This is sahara.conf [trustee] section http://paste.openstack.org/show/793589/ and this is heat's http://paste.openstack.org/show/793590/14:21
jeremyfreudberglooks reasonable to me14:23
ierdemI couldn't see anything wrong at there but surely i could be missed something14:23
jeremyfreudbergand you do you have the full traceback in the heat log?14:23
jeremyfreudbergor if it's not a traceback (merely an error message) maybe some more context?14:23
jeremyfreudbergbtw, https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/200767314:25
ierdemAt heat journal, it just gives that http://paste.openstack.org/show/793581/14:25
jeremyfreudberghmm, interesting, it may be something with roles14:28
jeremyfreudbergit's been a long time since i thought about this stuff14:29
jeremyfreudbergi will have to do some research and get back to you14:29
ierdemok, i will do research too. Thanks for all your helps14:30
jeremyfreudbergthanks again for your contributions14:30
jeremyfreudbergok, i will end this meeting14:31

gibiAPI (gmann)16:08
gmannone things to disucss16:08
gmannfor policy work we left the deprecated APIs to move to new defaults and scope16:08
gmannI can complete those in this cycle so that when we remove the old defaults we can remove from all16:09
gmannjohnthetubaguy point was we should do for deprecated APIs also as they are still supported.16:10
gmannopinion?16:10
gmanndeprecated APIs are mostly proxy APIs16:10
artomWe still have those?16:10
gibiI have no objection adding the new scopes for the still supported but deprecated APIs16:10
bauzasI thought stephenfin made a huge cleanup16:11
bauzaswhich ones are we talking of ?16:11
gmannbauzas: for nova-network its gone but other are there like sec grp, volume , image16:11
bauzasah rght16:11
bauzasso then I tend to agree with johnthetubaguy16:12
gibigmann: please file a blueprint for tracking purposes16:12
* artom is still reading through the api-ref, but they all look to have been removed entirely in some microversion...16:12
gmannits policy things otherwise we can say no enhancement to deprecated things16:12
dansmithagree with gibi and bauzas16:13
gmanngibi: ok, sure. spec less BP right as it is continue of old spec16:13
bauzasdeprecated means that we support regression bugfixes but we don't provide new features16:13
bauzasbut here, it's policy things16:13
gmannyeah16:13
gibigmann: yes, it does not need a separate spec, just link to the old one16:13
gmannok, thanks16:13
gmannthat's all from my side on API today16:14
gibigmann: thanks16:14

gibiSpecless blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/six-removal (takashin)16:17
gibiIs there any objection approving it ?16:17
bauzasahem16:17
bauzasthis would make sense to work on this now that we only support py316:18
gmann+116:18
bauzasthis being said, it's a pain to both work on it and review such large changes16:18
bauzasin the past, we discussed those kind of 'nice-to-have' large series during the PTGs so that the whole nova core team would agree on this16:19
bauzassix isn't mock16:19
artomIt's boring work, but is it really hard?16:19
bauzasand I'm afraid we could generate some bugs during reviews that would appear trivial16:19
bauzasso at least we need to come up with a consensus16:20
dansmithmy major complaint is that it generates churn, conflicts, and backport annoyance16:20
bauzasdansmith: that's my point16:20
dansmithfor no actual gain16:20
gmannbackport anyways needs to be anyways py2 compatible during backporting16:20
bauzasit's a major source of frustration for both the owner and the reviewers16:20
gmann mean for new changes we anyways will not support six right16:21
bauzasfor the owner, that will mean a constant rebase16:21
bauzasfor the reviewers, that will mean some code reviews that aren't honestly trivial16:21
bauzasgmann: dansmith was referring to any backport from a py3-only file16:22
dansmithmox removal was basically in the same camp, except it was limited to tests, and also had the goal of getting us off a technically unsupported library (even though it has never been a problem)16:22
bauzasnot the fact we would start changing ussuri or what other release16:22
dansmiththis is conflicts everywhere16:22
bauzasdansmith: I exacly had mox in mind16:22
bauzasI'm not opposed to the work16:22
gmannyeah py3-only file backport can be conflict things16:23
bauzasbut I just feel it's a massive effort for zero gain16:23
artomdansmith, so when would you propose we remove it, if ever? When Ussuri is the oldest supported stable branch, so that we know backports don't have to care about Py216:23
artom?16:23
dansmithIMHO, this is a mental cleanliness ticky mark that is a bunch of work t make us feel better, for no gain. But I'm quite sure it'll just happen anyway16:23
bauzasartom: I honestly feel nobody thought about backports when we started writing py3 only code16:23
dansmithartom: if it were me I would spend no time on it pretty much ever, but waiting until py2 releases are out of support is at least something16:24
dansmithjust letting it die by attrition would be fine with me16:24
bauzashonestly, tox is a wrapper16:24
bauzaswhoops16:24
* bauzas facepalms16:24
gmannbauzas: that is why (due to backport) these cleanup was not part of py-2 drop goal.16:24
gibiOK I don't see a consensus to approve the bp. I will not this down in the bp linking back to this discussion.16:25
gibiI will note*16:25
bauzasgibi: maybe having takashi around when we discuss it could be nice16:25
bauzashence a PTG thing16:25
bauzasb/c I'm not sure he's full onboard with what it means in terms of patches carry over16:26
gibibauzas: sure16:26
bauzasbut agreed with dansmith, letting it die by attrition sounds good to me16:26
gibiI'm OK to discuss it on the PTG or in a separate ML thread stared by takashi16:26
bauzassix isn't exactly large16:26
dansmithit's also not like mox where the whole *approach* to the code has to be different16:27
dansmiththus it's just a little syntactic sugar in places16:27
bauzasyup16:27
bauzasagain, just a wrapper16:27
bauzasI was personnally offering to discuss this at PTG time because I do care of stable branches16:28
bauzasand I don't want us to be too much py3-only pedantic on ussuri and later branches if that goes starting to be backported16:29
bauzassomehow continuing to use six would have my favor :)16:29
dansmithare we done?16:29
gibidone16:29
gibinothing more on the agenda16:29
bauzasI think so, was thinking out loud16:29
gibiis there anyithing else to discuss?16:29
