carlosso/ hey folks15:04
* carloss was waiting a couple of meetings for giving the chance for more attendees to join15:04
carlosslet's get started15:04
carlosshello everyone and welcome15:04
carlossfirst, thanks gouthamr for running last week's meeting during my absence15:05
Anoop_Shukla_Hello15:05
carlossgouthamr++15:05
carlossAnoop_Shukla_ o/15:05
carlosslet's cover the first topic of this meeting:15:06
carloss#topic Announcements15:06
carlosslet's look through our schedule and the upcoming deadlines15:06
carloss#link https://releases.openstack.org/flamingo/schedule.html (Flamingo Schedule)15:06
carlossnext week we have the feature freeze and the client freeze15:07
carlossNo featureful patch should be landed after the feature freeze15:07
carlossif we need exceptions, we can talk about it15:07
* gouthamr makes a tardy entry15:08
* carloss waves at gouthamr15:09
carlossI think we're in a good shape to merge client features until the end of the next week 15:09
carlossand don't let the client slip to the next version15:09
carlosswe'll get through the features in a bit15:10
carlossour second bugsquash of the cycle is also approaching quickly. It will happen in the week after the feature freeze15:10
carlossthe week of Sep 01 - Sep 0515:11
carlosswe can have an extended contribution window and I was wondering if keeping the theme we did on previous bugsquashes close to this deadline would be okay with everyone15:12
carlossi.e. in progress bugs15:12
carlossgetting us the chance to tackle a couple more bugs before we tag the first RC of the cycle15:12
carlosswe can also use that opportunity to talk about stale bugs and decide together what to do with them15:13
carlosshow does that sound?15:13
gouthamr++15:13
gouthamrwould add any targeted for m-3 but would slip15:14
carloss++15:15
carlossgreat, I'll follow-up with more details in #openstack-manila15:17
gouthamrvhari and I can drive this, but it’s a short week in the US, so myself, ashrodri and vhari will not be around on Sep 1st.. so perhaps we can have a meeting on Sep 2nd at 1400 UTC and close out the bugsquash with this meeting next Thursday - wdyt?15:17
carlossgouthamr: sure thing15:17
carlossI won't be around that week and the next one (part of my last announcement)15:17
carlossbut kick-off call Sep 2nd sounds in line with what we've done in the past15:18
carlossany other thoughts on this? Sai gireesh kpdev zgoggin Anoop_Shukla_ 15:18
zgogginCarloss: works for me!15:19
SaiWorks for me. 15:20

gireesh++15:22
carlossthanks for the feedback15:22
carlosslet's switch topics15:22
carloss#topic Contd: Bridging the gap between community and contributing orgs: survey and metric analyses (fungi)15:22
carlosso/ fungi thanks for bringing this up15:23
fungiyw15:23
* carloss followed up with the logs last week15:23
carlossfloor is yours :)15:23
fungiwell, mainly just wondering if anyone has questions or observations related to what i covered last meeting15:23
fungii'm happy to answer them now or whenever they occur to you15:24
fungiwe're already in the process of updating the surveys with some additional questions about how teams express their development and review prioritization, in preparation for a new round of responses for the flamingo cycle15:24
fungia lot of the feedback we've seen so far in various teams is that it's often not obvious to contributors why their changes don't get reviewed, so hoping we can come up with ideas for how to better set expectations around what each team is focusing their limited valuable time on15:25
fungia lot of the negative experiences contributors have seem to boil down to miscommunication or a lack of communication setting mismatched expectations for them15:26
fungisome teams are doing a better job of expressing what they're working on and prioritizing, so we're hoping that we can take some of those positive examples and share them across openstack as a whole15:27
gouthamr(also an interesting communication on #openstack-tc from a couple of days ago along the lines of review practices and languishing feature proposals that don’t have committed/knowledgable maintainers reviewing them)15:28
fungianyway, that's just me rambling, was there anything specific anyone wanted to dig into from last week?15:28
fungiif not, i don't really have anything else for now15:29
carlossthat's very insightful information fungi, thanks for bringing it up15:30
carlossI have one question at the moment, regarding the review priorities15:30
fungisure!15:30
carlossdid the teams that enable the review-priority flag in gerrit have any feedback and/or some data to demonstrate whether it helped them prioritizing things?15:31
carlossthat is something I've been curious about for some time and I think it'd be difficult to measure15:31
funginot an answer really, but that's one of the questions i had and am hoping to get answers to with the new round of survey updates15:31
fungii talked to the kolla team about it a little in their meeting yesterday15:32
fungithey do seem to be using that as part of their prioritization tracking, and i think the plan is to add some info about it to their contributor documentation15:32
fungibut we didn't really get into how it helps them, or exactly how they make use of it15:33
fungii'm hoping their documentation updates will make that apparent15:33
gouthamri see a couple of AIs for us: taking the contributor and maintainer surveys:15:33
gouthamrContributor Survey: https://openinfrafoundation.formstack.com/forms/openstack_contributor_satisfaction_survey15:33
gouthamrMaintainer Survey: https://openinfrafoundation.formstack.com/forms/openstack_maintainer_satisfaction_survey15:33
gouthamrand, follow up with the feedback across teams, and discuss at the PTG15:33
fungiyeah, and if you schedule a ptg slot to talk about it please give me a heads up and i'll be happy to join in15:34
carlossfungi: ack, makes sense15:34
carlossand yes, a discussion at the PTG would be great15:34
fungithere's also going to be a forum session about it in paris, i think, for anyone who's planning to go15:35
carloss++, that will be an interesting discussion15:36
carlossso I'd say: please make your feedback count and add your response to these surveys gouthamr linked if you haven't done it yet15:36
carloss^ just reiterating to everyone15:36
fungithanks!15:37
carlossany more questions for fungi? 15:37
carlosstaking silence as no15:38
carlossthanks for bringing this up fungi 15:39
carlossI'll schedule some time at the PTG and let you know15:39
fungimy pleasure15:39

carlosswe can discuss feature freeze exceptions if needed next week15:48
carlossdoes that make sense?15:48
zgogginThanks very much Carloss, I'm still working on a recipie for the tempest tests so will let you know perhaps in the main channel when ready. kpdev: I will hopefully have some time to look at your PRs as promised last week tomorrow. gouthamr: I spent some time this week trying to refactor the data managers backup methods into the base backup driver class but encountered some issues due to interdependency. I will write a 15:49
zgoggincomment in the PR shortly.15:49
