pkovardoes anyone know to update https://www.openstack.org/ptg/#tab_schedule ?16:34
smcginnispkovar: In what way?16:37
smcginnispkovar: Oh, nevermind. For some reason I was thinking you were asking about the PTGbot page.16:37
smcginnispkovar: Someone from the foundation probably has to do that.16:37
pkovar(i'd like to update the Docs / I18n helproom description)16:37
pkovarokay16:38
pkovarwas hoping it's sourced from a repo somewhere :)16:39
smcginnis:)16:39
smcginnisMaybe hogepodge knows? ^^16:39
hogepodgeLet me check16:40
hogepodgeafaik it's not in a repo, but we can take care of it for you. Just sent a PM with who to contact.16:43

notmynamehogepodge: (no snark, but honest question) I just saw your email about the interop working group at the PTG. but I thought working groups were replaced by SIGs. or at least rebranded (honestly, I'm not sure of any difference other than name and marketing).17:23
notmynamehogepodge: so is the interop wg going to be the interop sig?17:23
notmynamehogepodge: does it even matter?17:23
notmynamehogepodge: and a different question on scheduling...17:25
hogepodgenotmyname: I don't know. Yes, no maybe? We're a board working group so it's always a bit weird.17:25
notmyname:-)17:25
notmynamehogepodge: you asked for input for "projects that can be installed standalone..." like cinder and ironic. I see that listed as a topic on your etherpad17:26
hogepodgenotmyname: I'm a bit resistant because we _just_ changed our name, and it was a royal pain to change everything in our world. If we had to reboot our mailing list in a name change, for example, that would be the fourth mailing list for interop issues. But we can call ourselves a sig too to match up with community expectations.17:26
notmynamebased on how it's listed and phrased, I'm not sure if swift team members should go or not17:27
hogepodgenotmyname: also, leaving swift out was an oversight, standalone swift would be awesome17:27
hogepodgeAs I wrote that email I thought "what project am I forgetting?". Swift if the first and ideal candidate for this.17:27
notmynameok, I mean, we're probably the most-often deployed as an independent service, and our tests have reflected that. so I didn't know if maybe you were looking to create stuff for those other projects who may not have good stand-alone tests suites yet17:28
notmynameit looks like that's on monday? i'll reference it on the swift etherpad and try to be there myself (and definitely encourage others)17:29
hogepodgeI'm so sorry that I left you out on that email. But yea, we're expanding the trademark programs specifically to recognize strong services that don't rely on a fat stack.17:29
notmynameno worries :-)17:29
notmynamehow can I prep so the conversation is productive? what's the goal of that topic?17:29
notmynamelooks like it's on monday, right? I added it at the top of https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/swift-ptg-queens17:31
notmynamethe "Verticals: Cinder, Ironic discussion", right? can I update that to include swift? (making sure that's the right topic)17:32
hogepodgeyes, please.17:33
hogepodgeIt's similar to what we've done before. We want a list of capabilities with tests and designated sections with code to build a guideline from. It's using an updated format, like what's here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/490648/ I know you've done this exercise before, so I would want to leverage that existing work and make it as easy on you as possible17:35
notmynamehogepodge: great! thanks for the info, and I'll be there on monday (I hope I can find the right room at the right time)17:36
hogepodgeThe end goal is to produce (or assign work to produce) guidelines for vertical projects that we can take to the board and request advisory status for in January 2018, with goal of new trademark programs introduced in August/September 201817:37

dhellmannnotmyname, hogepodge : As I understand it, working groups will remain as chartered by a specific governance group where appropriate. SIGs are meant to remove that distinction to try to collect broader input. Not that WGs refuse anyone participating, but membership has tended to be limited based on who charters them. Yes, it's a bit of a psychological thing.18:45
hogepodgedhellmann: I don't quite understand why a name is a barrier to collaboration. We've never turned anyone away. Our name changes have been problematic though, and also ate up a bunch of resources from not just our team, but infra as well.18:47
dhellmannhogepodge : the name isn't. the chartering is. at least, that's the theory.18:47
dhellmannbut we need a different name to distinguish them as being different18:47
dhellmannit probably makes sense for the interop group to stay chartered by the board, fwiw18:48
*** diablo_rojo has quit IRC18:48

hogepodgedhellmann: Sure. To me it just adds to so much more confusion about how we name everything around here. I don't mind these changes, as long as they're thought through and have some stickiness. It would be frustrating to me if I had to create a new Interop SIG mailing list and wind down the Interop WG mailing list then field angry emails about people missing out on things. FITS -> DefCore -> Interop  WG ->18:52
hogepodgeInterop SIG (because we may want to fold RefStack into the SIG), at some point it feels like we're doing a disservice to the community by all of the shifting around.18:52
dhellmannyeah, I don't think the intent was to automatically convert all existing wgs to sigs18:52
hogepodgeBut we'll add it to our agenda for the PTG.18:53
