Miouge-Back in berlin there was a discussion about public cloud providers having difficulties getting patches in. Somebody suggested “why not ask somebody on the marketplace?”, curious if anybody who tried to get patched fixed via freelancing platform (UpWork, etc…)? This has worked for me in other contexts…13:37
zhipengMiouge- can you expand a little bit on that ?13:44
Miouge-People who don’t have [openstack] developers in the company, might be able to hire a freelancer for a couple of hours/day/weeks to fix patches that are important to them, without requiring a vendor support contract etc… you see what I mean?13:47
*** irclogbot_2 has joined #openstack-publiccloud13:48
tobberydbergDo not recall this discussion myself ... if you are not referring to the "Forum session" we had around the subject?13:52
tobberydberg@Miouge- - I can mention though that one thing that has been on our agenda some year ago was to come together as the "pubic cloud community" and hire just that - an openstack devloper - that had a focus of the public cloud specific use cases13:54
Miouge-Maybe an openstack-operator session now that I come to think about it...13:55
tobberydbergUnfortunate that didn't kickoff since that company we had contact with at the time laid of their openstack focused personel13:56
tobberydbergyea, we had that late one of the days13:56

tobberydberg@Miouge- ^^13:57
Miouge-tobberydberg: you’re the man!13:57
Miouge-Basically I am referring to the “Smaller organisations have had success engaging the folk listed at https://www.openstack.org/marketplace/consulting/ to help.”13:57
tobberydbergmore correct without the extra params I apparently added13:58
tobberydberghttps://etherpad.openstack.org/p/BER-getting-operators-bugfixes-upstreamed13:58
tobberydbergI would think that was persia that did that comment - but not sure13:58
tobberydbergo/14:01

*** openstack changes topic to "1. Planning 2019 - revisit (Meeting topic: publiccloud_wg)"14:06
tobberydbergso, more of a revisit of that from last week - feedback, thoughts, ideas etc appreciated14:07
Miouge-I +1 filters on the passport program, important for consumers to know before getting the account what to expect14:08
zhipengYes14:09
tobberydbergYea, that is something that I also feel becoming more and more importabat14:10
tobberydbergalso, we have a few ongoing topics that are being addressed - deletion of project and change of ownership etc, so that will be a focus as well14:12
zhipengI remember adriant sent an email about deletion to the mailing list14:14
tobberydbergRegarding deletion of project, "[tc][all] Project deletion community goal for Train cycle" mail on the maling list14:14
tobberydbergexactly14:14
tobberydbergAnd etherpad https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/community-goal-project-deletion14:15
tobberydbergplease visit and put comments14:15
Miouge-OK, didn’t know about the Etherpad there, interesting!14:16
zhipengGreat !14:17
Miouge-Is that something folks from openstack-operators can help out with (not just publiccloud)?14:17
tobberydbergyes, of course ... champions can be anyone talking to other teams and project to push and support them in the process14:18
Miouge-got it14:19
tobberydbergBut anyone can help out with anything and would be good to have a TC member as champion as well for example14:19
tobberydbergNo more comments on the list of priorities?14:20
tobberydbergWe really need some help here with executing on those things as well ... just to have that said, so if people have interest in helping out, would be awesome14:21
tobberydbergOk. so moving on...14:23
tobberydberg#topic 2. Ops Meetup Berlin14:23

tobberydbergWas talking to the ops-community the other day14:23
tobberydbergSo added some notes to our meeting etherpad of that14:25
tobberydberganyone heard of it? PLanning to go there?14:25
Miouge-I didn’t know the date was set, good to see it back in Europe :)14:27
tobberydbergYea, planning to have one in the US and one in Europe14:28
tobberydbergLooks hard for me to make myself available for it unfortunate because I would love to go and help out... But lets if that changes14:28
tobberydbergIf you planning to go there and readin the notes from this meeting later, please add your name to the etherpad adn I can pass that along as well14:29
Miouge-I need to check at home :D14:30
tobberydberg#topic 3. CFP Denver deadline14:30

tobberydberg#topic Other topics???14:35
*** openstack changes topic to "Other topics??? (Meeting topic: publiccloud_wg)"14:35
tobberydbergNothing there?14:40
zhipengI was thinking about something along the lines of14:41
zhipengIf openstack public cloud provider offers something like AWS outpost14:42
zhipengWould it be too much a difference from pure private cloud solution ?14:42
tobberydbergWell, do not know the details about outpost TBH14:43
tobberydbergBut it sounds like "private cloud on tap" basically14:44
tobberydbergis that what it is?14:44
tobberydbergAre you suggesting a new openstack service @zhipeng ? ;-)14:45
zhipengYep pretty much14:45
zhipengPublic cloud on premise offering14:46
zhipengTheoretically the API should be the same14:46
tobberydbergwell, so a combination of ironic or any metal provisioning system, openstack deployment system etc etc14:46
zhipengI'm wondering if there are other differences14:47
zhipengYep along that line14:47
tobberydbergwould be nice14:47
tobberydberghaven't heard of it14:47
tobberydbergYou let me know when you software is done, right? ;-)14:47
zhipengHaha deal14:51
tobberydbergSo, time is up - shout now or hold your... until after the meeting... ;-)14:51
