opendevreviewStephen Finucane proposed openstack/releases master: os-service-types 1.9.0  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/99971010:30
opendevreviewMerged openstack/releases master: os-service-types 1.9.0  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/99971013:00
fricklerrelease-team: were we too fast when dropping py3.9 support from the releases repo? https://governance.openstack.org/tc/reference/runtimes/2025.1.html still is supported and has py3.9 listed. cf. kolla builds for 2025.1 failing https://zuul.opendev.org/t/openstack/build/41c8c1276dac4d74afd532f0408fe7f7/log/kolla/build/000_FAILED_releaser.log15:01
fungii guess we didn't realize that kolla's image builds pip install openstack-releases?15:05
fungiin order to support that, we'll need to handle the python versions used by stable branches of projects15:06
fungii see kolla has an unmaintained/2024.1 branch as well, do we also need to keep it working with python 3.8 for that?15:08
fricklerwell kolla simply used the releases repo as a random example to build an "external" project image, no real use case behind it. for unmaintained branches there are no releases to be made, so I don't think we need to care for those15:21
fungii started trying to dig into the kolla job in order to figure out what it's using the releases repo for that it actually needs to pip install it, but quickly got lost in the releaser image definition15:22
fungiif it's using the releases repo as an "example package" i'd argue it's a poor choice, we don't even tag releases of it much less package and push them to pypi15:23
fungithere are probably other simpler projects that are better examples (maybe even release-test?)15:23
frickleryes, I do agree on the "poor choice". I still wonder whether our release tooling should be able to run on all current supported platforms, which is an unrelated question just triggered by the kolla issue15:25
fungiright, i think in the past we assumed we only needed to be able to install it with the python version run in the releases repo's own jobs15:26
funginot in the context of other projects' jobs15:27
fricklerthat's a good point, agreed15:33
fungiokay, the rerun of maintain-github-openstack-mirror after the new credentials merged indicate that we're also trying to create repositories in the openstack-archive org on github, which openstackadmin doesn't have access to (yet)19:41
fungii'll try to look into that19:41
