fungimeeting in 5 minutes!13:55
fungi#startmeeting releaseteam14:00
opendevmeetMeeting started Fri Aug 21 14:00:15 2026 UTC and is due to finish in 60 minutes.  The chair is fungi. Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot.14:00
opendevmeetUseful Commands: #action #agreed #help #info #idea #link #topic #startvote.14:00
opendevmeetThe meeting name has been set to 'releaseteam'14:00
fungiPing list: release-team14:00
fungi#link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/hibiscus-relmgt-tracking#L294 Our agenda14:00
ttxo/14:01
fungii'll give anyone who's around a minute or two before i proceed with the topics14:01
ttxMight be just us today14:02
fungii suspect you're right14:02
fungi#topic Review task completion14:02
fungiPropose autoreleases for cycle-with-intermediary libraries (excluding client libraries) which had commits that have not been included in a release14:03
ttx#link https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:%22hibiscus-final-non-client-libs%2214:03
ttxA few were +1ed and approved early14:03
fungiyeah, looks like 3 out of 2414:03
ttxOne was superseded by another requst14:04
ttxthe last 20 just did not get any feedback14:04
ttxThat said...14:04
ttxThe script that Sean used to run to cc the PTL on release requests seems to have finally stopped rujnning14:05
ttxso unless they pay special attention they might just miss those14:05
fungiwas it an automated thing or something we ran manually?14:05
ttxGood question, let me check if there was a tool14:05
fungiif it was running as part of some automated zuul job i can try to track it down and diagnose14:06
ttxhttps://opendev.org/openstack/releases/src/branch/master/tools/add_reviewers.sh14:07
ttxI think it was run by Sean on a cron14:07
fungi#link https://opendev.org/openstack/releases/src/branch/master/doc/source/reference/using.rst#toolsadd_reviewers.sh14:08
ttxHmm I might try a dry-run for it14:09
fungii wonder if it was adapted to the liaison move14:09
ttxyeah that's where I'm doubtful14:09
fungiwe could probably add a weekly zuul job to run it, maybe something for next cycle14:09
ttxI thought I saw Elod taking it over lately, so I was wondering14:10
fungiah maybe, we can revisit that next week too when he gets back i suppose14:10
fungiFollow up on remaining DNM fails14:10
ttxIt definitely stopped working a few days/weeks ago14:10
fungi#link https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:release-health-check+is:open14:11
fungilooks like there's still 7 failing there14:11
ttxon the previous topic... we are stuck a bit14:11
ttxWe usually send a "last reminder" comment and force-merge those14:11
ttxbut if nobody is reading them...14:11
fungiif it's just gerrit notifications, most users probably filter/ignore them anyway14:12
ttxOK I'll try to run the add_reviewers script, then post a last minute warning14:12
fungithough i guess if they get added as reviewers it may show up on personal review dashboards too14:13
ttxRe: DNM yes a bunch are still failing. Some of them are failing at "ruff format", but in a way I fail to reproduce14:13
ttxthose should be easy to fix14:13
ttxThere are a couple others which are much more deeply stuck14:13
fungido the teams for them seem to be aware?14:14
ttxunclear14:14
fungicinder, masakari, oslo, zaqar14:14
fungiunless cinder-tempest-plugin and zaqar-tempest-plugin are qa deliverables, i don't recall off the top of my head14:15
fungino, the service teams own those14:15
fungiwe also had a couple of holdover tasks from last week14:17
fungi#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/996925 Define testing runtime for 2027.1 release14:17
ttx(meanwhile, looks like add_reviewers would work)14:17
fungithat merged14:17
fungi#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/openstack-zuul-jobs/+/1001701 Prepare templates for stable/2026.2 branch testing14:18
fungithat's up for review14:18
fungi#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/openstack-zuul-jobs/+/1001704 Prepare the job template for 2027.1 testing runtime14:18
fungialso up for review depending on it14:18
fungiand there's a handful of other openstack-zuul-jobs changes down the line as children of those too14:19
fungiso that seems to be on track14:19
fungii think that's it for the task completion review?14:20
ttxyes14:20
fungi#topic Assign R-5 week tasks14:20
fungii see you grabbed some already14:20
ttxI took a few, we could assign some to elod as he'll be around14:20
ttxI'll add one around force-merging the libraries without a -1 on Monday, and take it14:21
fungii guess we can see next week if elod wants the autorelease proposal task14:23
ttxyeah14:23
fungiotherwise i can take it14:23
fungi#topic Review weekly countdown email14:23
fungi#link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/relmgmt-weekly-emails14:23
fungii wasn't sure what to put in the other deadlines/dates at the bottom, so guessed tc election poll14:24
ttxWe usually put the next event (summit or PTG)14:25
fungiaha, i can add that14:25
ttxOtherwise LGTM (I fixed a dangling $SERIES ref)14:25
fungioops, thanks!14:26
fungishould i keep the entry for the tc election or no?14:28
fungi(i added the summit)14:29
fungii'll get it sent out right after the meeting14:31
fungi#topic Open Discussion14:31
fungidid anyone have anything else for the meeting?14:31
ttxMeanwhile we got one additional PTL response on the library patches (which I approved), and reminders were sent to everyone else14:31
ttxnothing else from me14:31
fungithanks!14:31
fungigoing once...14:32
fungitwice...14:32
fungiguess that's it for this week! if anyone does have something to bring up, feel free to raise it in this channel outside the meeting too, whenever's convenient for you14:32
fungi#endmeeting14:33

ttxI'm reviewing the security releases, and will +2a them even on a Friday14:33
ttxThanks fungi!14:34
fungiaha, thanks!14:37
fungithose were on my radar but i was sidetracked by election tooling updates14:38

opendevreviewMerged openstack/releases master: Release final ceilometermiddleware for 2026.2 Hibiscus  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100129814:47
fricklersorry I was stuck in a downstream meeting, reading logs now14:55
fricklerI tried running add_reviewers.sh and the result is "AttributeError: 'Team' object has no attribute 'leadership_type'". so likely sean's cron is still running, just failing as well. I can try to look into that15:00
fricklerah, flupp, that was old governance code in my releases repo. after updating it everything works fine indeed. we might add a periodic job for it, but I'd think it should be more often than daily, so likely hourly. it does need gerrit credentials however, not sure if we'd want to use a dedicated account for that? 15:12
fungiwould it make sense to use the same account that adds the ptl-approved votes?15:17
fricklerwell that would be the Zuul account, we could do that, but would maybe need to copy the relevant code into the project-config repo to make sure we (as in infra-roots) can trust it?15:20
fungioh right, i forgot that job is relying on zuul to vote success into a different label rather than using a gerrit account in the job itself15:21
fungiwe could just reuse the release-bot account, i suppose15:22
fricklerunrelated: do we still want to have a new pbr release this cycle? next friday is reqs freeze afaict and some days of testing might be good. not today of course, but planning for a release early next week might be good?15:23
fricklerah, right, we do have the release-bot already, that sounds like a match15:23
fungistephenfin was asking about it on monday and it was unclear whether he'd prefer we try to get other changes merged too or just release the fix for the file omission regression15:24
fungii would personally prefer to have a pbr 7.1.1 up before the freeze, so that projects wanting to drop setup.cfg/setup.py files from their repos can do so in master once rc1 passes15:25
opendevreviewsean mooney proposed openstack/releases master: tag final release of os-trait before 2026.2  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100183515:29
opendevreviewsean mooney proposed openstack/releases master: final release of os-vif for 2026.2  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100184415:58
sean-k-mooneyo/ sylvain is on pto currently so i propese the final release of os-vif and os-traits https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/1001844 https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/1001835 those shoudl have been done before the non clinet lib feeze yesterday so it woudl eb good to get them included sooner rather then later as we will need to bump the version in16:19
sean-k-mooneythe placeemtn and cyborg repos for os-traits16:19
fricklerttx: fungi: ^^ does this already need a FFE? or would today (or even Monday) still be ok-ish?16:36
fungifrickler: i think feature freeze is still 6 days away?16:42
sean-k-mooneyfeature freeze is thruday next week16:42
sean-k-mooneybut these are non client libs so while not part of oslo16:42
sean-k-mooneywe try to keep to the same timeline16:42
sean-k-mooneybut if there is less paperwork and we can proceed with it today that works for me :)16:43
sean-k-mooneyi guess technialy it does not say which day in teh wekk https://releases.openstack.org/hibiscus/schedule.html#final-release-for-non-client-libraries16:48
sean-k-mooneyi just assume thrusday becase we use thursday for the milestones16:49
sean-k-mooneyso if we can merge them today we can try and get those promoted trhough the requrieemn repo before the requireemtn freeze next week16:51
fungiwell, it says the freeze is at milestone 3, and milestone 3 is that thursday16:53
fungiso it does indirectly specify the day16:53
sean-k-mooneywhere does it say that https://releases.openstack.org/hibiscus/schedule.html#final-release-for-non-client-libraries16:54
sean-k-mooney```Libraries that are not client libraries (Oslo and others) should issue their final release during this week. That allows to give time for last-minute changes before feature freeze.```16:54
sean-k-mooneythe requirement freeze does asy milestoen 316:55
sean-k-mooneyhttps://releases.openstack.org/hibiscus/schedule.html#requirements-freeze ```After the Hibiscus-3 milestone, only critical requirements and constraints changes will be allowed. Freezing our requirements list gives packagers downstream an opportunity to catch up and prepare packages for everything necessary for distributions of the upcoming release. The requirements remain16:56
sean-k-mooneyfrozen until the stable branches are created, with the release candidates.```16:56
fungii'm talking about feature freeze16:56
fungi"The Hibiscus-3 milestone marks feature freeze for projects following the release:cycle-with-rc model. No featureful patch should be landed after this point. Exceptions may be granted by the project PTL."16:56
sean-k-mooneyright the quetion was not a FFE for the non clinet lib freeze orginally16:57
fungiif these aren't cycle-with-rc then we're looking at a different deadline i guess16:57
sean-k-mooneyos-taits is independent 16:57
sean-k-mooneyos-vif is cyle with rc i belive16:58
sean-k-mooneyah no release-model: cycle-with-intermediary16:58
sean-k-mooneyfor os-vif16:58
fricklerhttps://releases.openstack.org/hibiscus/schedule.html#h-final-lib is what is this week. and the note at the top of the schedule says "Deadlines are generally the Thursday of the week on which they are noted below."16:59
sean-k-mooneybut in either case my hope is to release both today so i can raise the min verison in placment for os-traits and cybrog next week16:59
fricklerbut the text says "should" and not "MUST" (I'm assuming RFC interpretation of these words). so I'm fine with releasing today, will review in a bit17:01
sean-k-mooneyfrickler: thanks17:01
fricklerthere's a lot of warnings in our report https://ff462cd2df15c1e9e849-6f48548226442af9d46e4cb9039d718a.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/openstack/b816aeed3d1e46bd804e012159d79824/tox/validate/validate-request-results.log IIUC the most urgent one is to avoid running setup.py, which seems to happen multiple times in our tooling17:24
fricklertkajinam: I noticed https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/984982 is still open, anything blocking this or did you just miss it?17:31
fricklernoonedeadpunk: I noticed https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/984988 is still open, anything blocking this or did you just miss it?17:32
opendevreviewMerged openstack/releases master: [tool] Extend series sorting  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/99737718:21
opendevreviewMerged openstack/releases master: tag final release of os-trait before 2026.2  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100183519:15
opendevreviewMerged openstack/releases master: final release of os-vif for 2026.2  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100184419:15
opendevreviewBrian Rosmaita proposed openstack/releases master: Release os-brick 7.1.1 for hibiscus  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100162719:18
stephenfinfungi: I missed that earlier but yes, pbr 7.1.1 now. I do have some other patches up but they're test rework and not work holding for, IMHO19:20
stephenfin*now, please :)19:20
fungistephenfin: great, i'll push something up so we can have it in asap20:29
opendevreviewJeremy Stanley proposed openstack/releases master: Publish the 2027.1/Indri key for future use  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/100091721:15
