ttxcool14:00
ttxwon't be around much for the rest of today due to meetings + evening14:03
ttxpretty happy of how much "common culture" this ends up documenting. I have the feeling this work will be useful14:04
mestery+10014:05
mesteryI'm extremely happy to see this all documented! Thanks for setting up the sprint!14:05
mesteryI plan to spend 2-3 hours on it today14:05
*** ChanServ changes topic to "Project Team Guide sprint | https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/project-team-guide | https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/VirtualSprints#OpenStack_Project_Team_Guide"14:24
jeblairi'll start on the qa/ci stuff14:39
mesteryOpen Source chapter @ https://review.openstack.org/19316314:56
ttxbbl15:00
jeblairflaper87: i think i may end up back-linking to your section on review guidelines eventually (after you write it), since there's some overlap with testing (where i'm mentioning project gating)15:57
jeblairwe might want to link the other way too.  but we can take care of that after we write our respective sections :)15:57
jeblairtesting is at: https://review.openstack.org/19319116:13
jeblairi still need to add some text about ER/logstash/gate failures, etc.  but i think the narrative about what testing, why, and how is there.16:14
jeblairlet me know if i've missed something (i'm sure i have)16:14
flaper87jeblair: that sounds good, I started it but I wasn't able to dedicate as much time to it today as I'd have liked. I'll have something tomorrow16:19
jeblairflaper87: cool, np.  I put a TODO in mine to remind us to cross-link when we have targets16:22
* jeblair takes a short break16:23
jeblairokay, updated that change to include a really short section on failures.  that's starting to get pretty technical, so i want to link out to other docs quickly.17:33
jeblairdhellmann: are you planning on doing the oslo section?17:34
dhellmannjeblair: I can work on that, let me catch up now that I'm actually online17:41
jeblairdhellmann: ok, np17:43
jeblairthis is intimidating: i'm going to try to write docs.  about writing docs.  without annegentle's help.17:48
* jeblair claims the docs chapter17:49
mesteryInitial "Open Community" chapter: https://review.openstack.org/19323317:52
mesterydhellmann: I just merged ttx's "Open Design" review, not worth holding up on my -1, I'll submit a followup with my idea there.18:05
dhellmannmestery: sounds good18:05
dhellmannmestery: I'm noticing your link styling in https://review.openstack.org/#/c/193233/1/doc/source/open-community.rst,cm with MailingLists for example. Is that a standard we're using in this guide, or can we make it `mailing lists`_ instead?18:17
mesterydhellmann: I'll adapt, thanks for the pointer!18:18
mesterydhellmann: I just pushed a new version of 193163 addressing yoru comments as well, thanks for the review!18:18
dhellmannmestery: looking18:19
jeblairheh, i'm still on the first revision :)18:19
* dhellmann has crappy wifi today 18:19
dhellmannmestery: +2 on the new draft18:21
mesterydhellmann: thanks! and bummer on the crappy wifi :)18:21
dhellmannyeah, it just means gerrit is very slow for me18:21
jeblairmestery: i left some comments on your change18:23
mesteryjeblair: Ack, will review them, thanks!18:23
*** pabelanger has joined #openstack-sprint18:25
jeblairmestery: the open source page looks good, but i left a nit about the link syntax18:29
mesteryjeblair: cool! I'll address that too, digesting all the comments. Thanks for the reviews!18:30
* ttx waves18:33
* jeblair waves at ttx18:34
ttxCool to see the sprint in full swing. i'll likely pick up the pieces tomorrow morning and review everything18:35
dhellmannhow much do we want to say in the oslo chapter?18:35
ttxdhellmann: the audience is non-Oslo project teams18:36
ttxso all the things you'd like random project teams to know about oslo18:36
dhellmannso, what it is and please use it?18:36
dhellmannk18:37
dhellmannI'll ping dims, too18:37
ttxanything you need urgent help / advice for ?18:38
mesterynothing from me, I'll look for your reviews tomorrow ttx18:40
mestery:)18:40
mesteryjeblair dhellmann: All comments addressed, links cleaned up, new verisons pushed.18:40
jeblairwoo18:40
ttxfeels like we should have done that a long time ago18:41
jeblairttx: well, we used to think wikis were cool :)18:44
mesterylol18:44
ttxI hesitated to sprinkle wiki diff references all over my intro but decided not to18:44
mesteryI spent part of Kilo moving a good amount of Neutron's documentation in-tree :)18:44
ttxI did some research to get the dates right though18:44
jeblairttx: i was impressed!18:45
ttxit was not exactly as I remembered it. Didn't remember that PTLs were appointed18:45
ttxwe came a long way18:45
dhellmannyeah, I never knew the PTLs were appointed18:47
ttxThat's why a bit of history never hurts18:48
ttxtried to make it as objective as possible18:48
mesterythink you succeeded quite well ttx18:52
dhellmanninspired by ttx, I found some of the history from the talk markmc and I gave in paris and added it to the oslo chapter: https://review.openstack.org/19327019:31
mesterypleia2: thanks for the reviews!19:37
pleia2mestery: you're welcome, nice work on the content, valuable stuff :)19:38
mesterypleia2: thanks!19:38
mesterypleia2: D'oh! Fixed those broken links. Good catch :)19:48
pleia2fun with documentation syntax19:49
pleia2mestery: same on 193233 with the new irc channel logging link19:53
mesterypleia2: D'oh! Done :)19:54
pleia2thanks!19:54
mesterythank you!19:54

jeblairdid we end up deciding on a tense?  i think we all may have just ended up writing in 3rd person "openstack projects should....".  I think 2nd person could be an option "your project should", but i don't think we did that....22:13
jeblair(i just found myself writing a 2nd person sentence and stopped myself)22:13
jeblairprobably worth making a concious decision on at some point :)22:14
