gouthamralright, time to get started.. 17:05
gouthamr#topic Last Week's Action Items17:05
gouthamrwe noted a bunch of languishing reviews to take care of17:06
ChristianBerendt[m]o/17:06
gouthamrnow that the new TC is seated, it's a great time to do that.. if you haven't voted yet, there are open proposals here:17:07
gouthamr#link https://review.opendev.org/q/project:openstack/governance+status:open17:07
gouthamri need some more eyes on this PTL documentation:17:07
gouthamr#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/1005080 (doc: Add PTL doc)17:07
gouthamri intend to get this in today, please let me know if you'd liek additional time17:08
spotz[m]I went to review that from my phone the other day and it wouldn't come up, let me do that real quick17:09
gouthamrlikewise, please do take a look at this proposal:17:09
gouthamr#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/998652 (Add Rust use-case analysis for Keystone) 17:09
gouthamri'm hoping we can drive some action at the PTG.. if we need some space in working sessions to do so, we can 17:09
spotz[m]Remind me to follow up on 1005080 with some minor grammar, not worth a -117:10
gouthamr++ ty17:11
gouthamrthe other action items were around the PTG, we'll chat about them in a bit17:11
gouthamrand some start-of-the-cycle assignments post elections17:12
gouthamrthat's all the action items i was tracking, was there anything else to note?17:12
gouthamrwe're one day away from the 34th release of OpenStack! everything seems to be on track to get this out the door17:14
gouthamrbookmark the openinfra live page if you haven't already because a packed broadcast is shaping up for Oct 1st:17:15
gouthamr#link https://openinfra.org/live/ 17:15
* gouthamr Havana seems like yesterday17:16
spotz[m]hehe17:17
gouthamralrighty, let's get to our next topic:17:17
gouthamr#topic TC Chair election17:17
gouthamri graciously accept your unanimous decision to let me steer the ship for another cycle. i'm hoping though that i can pass the baton to someone in the next term.. so i'll do all it takes to share knowledge/process as much as i can17:19
spotz[m]But you do so good!:)17:20
ChristianBerendt[m]Thank you for keeping it going.17:20
gouthamri'm looking for vice-chair nominations, if you're looking to be a chair next cycle, this is a great opportunity.. 17:21
gouthamrty spotz[m] ChristianBerendt[m] 17:21
* gouthamr the role has been succinctly captured by this training video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nPTZqnIfFM17:22
* gouthamr couldn't resist. thanks, JayF 17:23
JayFstick-on mustache provided upon volunteering17:23
fungiwhat more incentive could anyone need?17:23
spotz[m]WHo's absent this week that we can nominate for co?:)17:24
gouthamranyway, mnasiadka has been great at this role to rely upon.. but he asked if any volunteers would like the role.. 17:24
JayFI nominate gouthamr2 for vice-chair, who looks suspiciously like gouthamr wearing a stick-on mustache ;)17:25
mnasiadkaI haven’t really done a lot, and given my other hats - I won’t probably pursue being chair anytime soon ;-)17:25
mnasiadkaSo if there’s anybody else that feels he’d like to do that in future - I greatly recommend it ;-)17:26
spotz[m]I second JayF 17:27
gouthamr^ we need to rest you up. you ran the APAC-timezone meetings, which were super helpful.. we decided to stop doing them, so a lot of the role is being a back-up and avoiding the issue of a bad-choice the Chair can make when crossing the road here in Seattle17:27
gouthamrwe also need a volunteer that's not planning to contest the 2027.2 TC/PTL elections to volunteer as the election team liaison, please... and spotz[m] can share with you what that role is. she's been a valuable help to the election officials as a second-reviewer on election candidacies/process changes etc17:29
gouthamrand a VMT liaison, now that we don't have bauzas 17:29
gouthamrthat role is less frequently used, but, we've seen the need to coordinate missing pieces and ensure the appropriate response to security issues in OpenStack projects... this usually means flashing the TC badge, holding the bar, pointing to the guidelines and raising alarm in case there're concerns about a project team not managing their security processes.. 17:31
gouthamrimportant roles, don't make me voluntell you :D 17:32
TheJuliaheh17:32
JayFand I'll note: it's useful for that person to be different than gouthamr 17:34
JayFso that he can have a VMT hat without carrying a big stick with it17:34
gouthamr++ yes17:34
mnasiadkaWho doesn’t like carrying big sticks...17:35
spotz[m]I might be able to, but need to check a few things first17:35
fungianyone who grew up having to chop firewood in the winter17:36
gouthamr:P 17:36
spotz[m]Hey firewood chopping is actually an exercise movement:)17:37
gouthamralright, we'll take the day to decide. I'd like to make all the appointments by the end of the week.. 17:37
gouthamryeah, think of this like an opensource gym17:38
gouthamralright, next up.. 17:38
gouthamr#topic TC PTG17:38
gouthamr#link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/oct2026-ptg-os-tc17:39
gouthamr^ please add topics to this etherpad 17:39
gouthamrif you're thinking about something, please add a placeholder for now.. 17:39
spotz[m]FYI I will miss the PTG but will catch up after, heading out on 2 week PTO next week17:39
gouthamrah! np, ty for letting me know.. 17:39
gouthamri'd like to get a split between things where we need a brainstorm, and things where we might benefit from working sessions.. so if you have topics throw them in there so we can discuss the possibilities17:40
gouthamrbased on the discussion here last week, ildikov's begun working with the operators that participate in the radio hour, and she's put together an etherpad to gather questions/topics:17:41
gouthamr#link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/ops-devs-qanda-2026 (Operators Discussions at Indri PTG) 17:41
ildikovI think most of the suggested topics are from Ops on the etherpad right now17:42
gouthamr^ feel free to add to this list, and make suggestions if a discussion will be appropriate in a TC room vs other rooms - even if that means cobbling together a cross project session involving multiple project teams, SIGs, Pop up teams, working groups17:43
ildikov++17:43
ildikovPlease add your topics and mark the topic areas that you are interested in/have input to!17:43
gouthamrknowing what we want to talk will ofc allow us to play tetris with the schedule17:43
ildikov++17:43
gouthamralso a "request" for a session still counts.. you're proposing a question that someone else may try to answer.. these have worked sometimes - even if you don't have concrete outcomes, you'd've raised awareness to an issue17:45
gouthamranything else regarding $topic?17:46
gouthamr#topic A check on gate health17:49
clarkbyesterday Zuul's sql db ran out of disk space which caused jobs to report in a split brain setup. Reports to gerrit were always accurate, but if you tried to find logs for jobs during that time they were still marked in progress because the historical record couldn't be made in the sql db17:50
clarkbzuuls running state is in zookeeper and is used to report to gerrit and the sql db. The web ui loads historical data from sql17:51
gouthamrah, ty for noting.. 17:51
gouthamrwhat causes this - a growth in jobs over time? 17:51
clarkbI think the sql db is basically append only17:51
clarkbthere may be a pruning tool but I don't think we're running it17:52
clarkbanyway disk space was expanded with lots of headroom should be a while before it is a problem again and before we need to figure out pruning17:52
fungiyeah, it contains the build result history, and we don't expire old result records like we do the log files themselves17:52
fungisince knowing when certain jobs started passing or failing can be helpful even without the details17:52
fungiseparately, the cloud provider hosting our gerrit server and some of our test node capacity has been experiencing intermittent ipv6 routing problems, which has resulted in some random job failures as well as missed events in zuul when it gets disconnected from gerrit's ssh socket or fails to get a rest api request through. we're looking into mitigation options17:53
fungi(and the provider is trying to track down the fault in theor routing hardware)17:53
gouthamrack.. i know infra work isn't "release" based.. but i wonder if you are seeing any changes in the way our community's been using Zuul/CI. We haven't tracked "recheck" data here in a while, nor issues with job configuration/permafails.. a lot of that work is still happening 17:55
clarkbzuul has been surprisingly busy this week. Usually it is quiet just before a release17:56
clarkbbut otherwise I don't know that I'ev seen anything unexpected17:56
gouthamrack, i wonder if it is prepping Indri for everything that slipped. we're writing more code than can be meaningfully reviewed during a cycle.. 17:57
gouthamrmy empirical feeling from seeing how things got punted in cinder, nova, manila..17:58
dansmithwhen is that not the case?17:58
dansmithI don't feel like nova punted more than normal this cycle.. if anything we pushed the virtfs migration stuff harder than we would normally have to get it over the line :)17:59
gouthamrsometimes, we're _very_ quiet between a release and PTG.. we're re-evaluating, but, it feels like ongoing work has kept pace deliberately 17:59
dansmithoh you mean between release/FF and PTG (i.e. now) and not the pre-release push?18:00
gouthamryes18:00
mnasiadkaWell, cycle-trailing projects have a lot of work between a release and PTG (and later on)18:00
gouthamrtrue18:01
gouthamrwe're over the hour18:01
gouthamrlet's take a breather.. is there anything you'd like to capture in the minutes?18:01
mnasiadkaI’ll be most probably unavailable next week (Open Source Summit in Prague)18:02
gouthamrack mnasiadka 18:02
gouthamralright, please review open governance proposals, and volunteer to be a liaison! 18:03
gouthamrthank you all for attending18:03

spotz[m]Ok I can take VMT laison18:09
opendevreviewMerged openstack/governance master: Add liaison-update hashtag with PTL/liaison CR+1 check  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/100144018:20
gouthamrspotz[m]: ++ ty! 18:23
gouthamrspotz[m]: so we killed the VMT liaisons table in the wiki ().. so we'll need to have this "tc liaison" data live elsewhere.. 18:24
gouthamrmaybe https://opendev.org/openstack/governance/src/branch/master/reference/members.yaml18:24
gouthamri'd add to the "role" there 18:24
gouthamrlet me check if anything breaks if i start doing that :) 18:25
gouthamrmnasiadka: cardoe volunteered to be vice-chair! \o/ i'm actually going to add you both to it unless you would prefer a single person play the role22:20
gouthamrChristianBerendt[m]: can i nominate you to be the TC's election liaison? spotz[m] can help you situate the tasks (and we should probably document them) - doing this because you won't be contesting TC elections until 2027.1 and others in that situation (frickler cardoe gtema) will have more hats to wear for now :)22:21
fungiconveniently, everyone on the tc has at least seen the election process from the perspective of a nominee/candidate22:30
gouthamryeah! That’s a cool goal - if you’re defining/sustaining governance, you get your hands dirty in the process 😅22:31
