tomtom001Hello,  I have an image I built with DIB, I can launch the instance with nova, but when launched through trove I get "no bootable device" the disk is created and I know the image is good, what could I look at to tell what's going on?14:55
bzurkowskiHello tomtom14:57
bzurkowskiError "no bootable device" may indicate that something is wrong with VM image14:58
tomtom001bzurkowski: oh also, the disk is created without the bootable flag set.  I can create an instance ok with nova if I just use the image to launch a vm, but not with trove, that seems to indicate to me that the process trove is using may not be configured correctly.  So what configuration options control how trove launches an image.14:59
tomtom001?14:59
bzurkowskiResponsibility for provisioning VM is fully covered by service of Nova15:00
bzurkowskiTrove acts as Nova client15:01
bzurkowskiDid you check that the image ID of VM created via Trove is correct?15:01
bzurkowskiI mean, the same as the one you used to test the image with only Nova15:04
bzurkowskiLet me know if you need any assistance15:06

tomtom001bzurkowski: yeah it seems as though the image is not being used to create the volume.... do I need a tag on the image for that?15:46
tomtom001I have rung the trove manage commands that updates the datastore in the trove database, it seems to be showing the right data.15:47
tomtom001*run15:47
tomtom001image id is correct in the database,  under datastores table there is no default_version_id, does there need to be one in the trove table?15:50
*** pcaruana has joined #openstack-trove15:51
bzurkowskiIt is required only in the situation you run "trove create" command without specifying datastore version explicitly16:04
bzurkowskiThen the default version is used16:05
bzurkowskiBut on the regular basis it is not requierd16:05
bzurkowskiSo, for clarity16:09
bzurkowskiYou checked image ID of VM managed by Trove using "openstack server show ... |grep image"16:10
bzurkowskiAnd image ID does not match ID of correct image?16:10
tomtom001bzurkowski: correct, no volume_image_metadata shows up, which tells me that it's not creating the volume from the image like it's supposed to .16:15
tomtom001it's creating just a blank volume.16:15

tomtom001bzurkowski: so I got an image to boot but I cannot gain access to it, what can I do to make sure the image is working correctly, trove is still "building" the image after 3 hours.20:48
tomtom001????20:48
tomtom001I still don't even know what I did to get the image to boot correctly, except that I deleted everything from the instances and datastores tables and started over.20:49
tomtom001the one error I keep going back to is the "keys not staged by host" error, which seems to come from this: trove/integration/scripts/files/elements/ubuntu-guest/install.d/62-ssh-key  however, the directory exists and I gave 777 but it doesn't do anything if it's empty and fails if it isn't.20:52

tomtom001bzurkowski: how can I gain access to the instance created to verify it's working correctly?20:54
