andrewbogottlxkong: our conversation yesterday left me thinking there was a standard/default trove-guestagent.conf I should base my config off of.  I double-checked, and my config is essentially the same as the conf file that's in the debian package.  I looked for a sample file in the trove source and it was removed in aa1d4d224674f44d9cd882eddb2537907adf5382.17:11
andrewbogottAt the point where that file was removed, it contained "log_file = logfile.txt"17:12
andrewbogottso I'm confused -- it sounds like you have a standard config in mind but if there is one I can't find it :(17:12

andrewbogottzigo, Arturo who maintains our in-house deb repos is out at the moment but I've just noticed that both our U and V repos contain trove version 13.  (The V repo I'm using is https://mirrors.wikimedia.org/osbpo/dists/buster-victoria-backports/) -- is that likely an issue that we inherited from your work?18:49
zigoandrewbogott: Yeah, Arturo is using my debian packages.18:52
zigoandrewbogott: The issue is, version 14 fails to build from source ...18:52
andrewbogottoh, so there is no version 14?18:52
zigoandrewbogott: Maybe you can help me fix the unit tests?18:53
andrewbogottI can certainly try.  Can you tell me what 'build' means in this context?18:53
zigoandrewbogott: I run unit tests during package build...18:54
andrewbogottis that just me typing 'tox' in the trove git checkout?18:54
zigoandrewbogott: Not really. There's no tox involved, I call stestr directly, and the dependencies are pulled exclusively from Debian.18:55
zigoThough it's doing what tox would...18:55
* zigo is building version 14 again...18:55
andrewbogottzigo: ok, I'm going to need to you to tell me step-by-step how to produce the errors you mean then.   I'm happy to work on this but not familiar with trove development at all.18:57
andrewbogott(for example, I have never heard of stestr)18:57
zigoLooks like I was wrong, and it builds.18:57
andrewbogottoh, well, that was easy!18:57
zigoOh, it's in Buster that it doesn't build ...18:58
zigoAh, I know why.18:58
zigounsat-dependency: python3-docker:amd64 (>= 4.1.0)18:58
zigoThough I fixed that ! :)18:58
zigopython3-docker 4.3.0 is in Debian Experimental. I just need to fetch it! :)18:58
zigo(rebuild it)18:58
zigo4.4.0 in fact.18:59
zigo(I was the one uploading it)18:59
zigoI wonder: why trove needs python3-docker ?18:59
zigoandrewbogott: http://osbpo.debian.net/debian/pool/bullseye-victoria-backports/main/o/openstack-trove/19:06
zigoIt's in ...19:06
zigoUpdated for both buster-victoria and bullseye-victoria.19:07
zigoI just updated (fixed) version 15 in bullseye-wallaby also.19:07
andrewbogottnice!  Thank you19:07
andrewbogottI assume that I need to do something on my end to pull those into our repo... I'll go digging19:07
andrewbogottzigo: are there technical reasons that we can't run W on Buster?19:09
zigoandrewbogott: There's none, just we maintain a single version with both stable and stable+1, that's enough for everyone to upgrade.19:15
zigoandrewbogott: The point is to have a single release where everyone switches just the OS, not OpenStack...19:16
zigoThere's no point to maintain all versions of OpenStack on so many Debian releases.19:16
zigoIt's too much work for no added benefits.19:16
andrewbogottThat's reasonable.  I'm not ready to upgrade my prod cloud to an unreleased Debian version but I guess the release is coming soon?19:17
zigoandrewbogott: It's planned for next month. We're already deploying it, because it's less of a pain to upgrade just a few components for bugfixes than it is to do an upgrade.19:20
zigoandrewbogott: Our future public cloud is already deployed under Bullseye + Victoria.19:20
andrewbogottwow!  ok, good to know19:20

andrewbogottzigo: it works!  Thank you for the quick rebuild.22:04
andrewbogottlxkong: It appears that most of my issues yesterday (and above) were due to running v13 with a v14 guest image.  Things are working much better now that my versions are in sync so you should disregard the backscroll for now.22:05
