cloudflyzykes no06:55
cloudflynot necessarily06:55
cloudflyunless the node is running nova-network06:55
cloudflyand even then06:55
cloudflydepending on your goal06:55
cloudflynot necessarily06:55
cloudfly=P06:55
zykes-cloudfly: well I have a "router" (fortigate thing) on 192.168.5.106:56
jasonbIs it possible to have a nova-network where it gives each VM a static IP address in the same network as the nova-network host machine's IP address?06:56
cloudflyit's been done before06:56
cloudflywhy not just script it though?06:56
jasonbHow?06:56
cloudflyyou can create the mapping and set the security stuff06:56
cloudflyallocate ip address is what it was06:56
cloudflyi think that still works06:57
cloudflyyou basically allocate an ip for the isntance and map it06:57
zykes-I assign a floating ip cloudfly to a vm and I see it get's assigned to 192.168.5.190/32, but I can't ping the .190 address from a machine not on the subnet06:57
cloudflythen add port permissions06:57
cloudflyyeah06:57
cloudflyyou need to add permissions for use06:57
zykes-and I think it's due to that there's no "gateway"06:57
cloudflythat's possible as well06:57
cloudflydepends on your config a bit06:57
cloudflyyou obviously can check routin gon the network node06:58
zykes-cause the nova node has a default gw via the admin network06:58
jasonbYeah, the routing on this stuff is very tough to get right, and there's no step by step guide, it seems.06:58
jasonbdb question: does it hurt anything if I do: use nova; delete from instances; ?  (if all the instances were test instances that I've already tried to delete..)06:59
zykes-cloudfly: hints on networking setup ?06:59
cloudflysorry07:01
cloudflywas in bathroom07:01
cloudflyuhm what i've done is made public and internal net07:01
cloudflyand defaulted it to a router07:01
cloudflyfor nat07:01
cloudflyif i need to give a direct external i use a separate vlan for that07:02
zykes-ah ok07:02
zykes-so you dont set the default gw via the admin network07:02
cloudflythe reasoning is that wasting an external on every single network node can be ugly07:02
cloudflywell it's set there07:03
cloudflyobviously but the gateway is not part of openstack07:03
zykes-but, but ?07:03
cloudflythe public network is public07:03
cloudflyit uses an upstream gateway07:03
cloudflyit's not using the network node07:03
zykes-how the heck you set a gateway ?07:03
cloudflycan't recall off the top of my head07:04
cloudflythe external is i think set as a flag file config07:04
jasonbThere should really be concrete examples of that in the docs.07:04
cloudflysince it's 'special'07:04
cloudflywhich IMHO is just stupid07:04

KiallOnce I get that going, I'll see what's involved in having migrate move the floating IP18:21
*** zooko has joined #openstack18:21
Kiallwell, you can just assign it in the same IP.. But you need to prevent ARP traffic for that IP from leaking out to the others nova-network nodes, or their VMs.18:22
Kiallthis can be done with ebtables..18:22
zykes-why not use clustering ?18:22
KiallClustering is a tad vague a suggestion ;)18:23
KiallThat could mean anything ;)18:23
*** GheRivero_ has joined #openstack18:23
