cihhanHi all, I'm trying to learn how to use openstack and I need to install one virtual machine (Fedora for example) - I'm following the instructions here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Getting_started_with_OpenStack_Nova -- but I cannot login to the booted image. Can someone please give me some help?00:34

AndyMillaryou *can* make it handle stateful with switf (iirc) or sheepdog09:25
koolhead17stefanlsd: see what nova-volume does09:26
AndyMillarbut then you have to ask yourself if your application is actually suited to the cloud09:26

stefanlsdyeah - thanks guys. I know i can technically have a vm running with state. My kinda of thinking with nova and cloud is that if the vm dies (or the host with others) - i shouldnt really care. the application should handle and respawn another.  our customers arn't really ready for cloud computing - but more traditional vm computing. (i want a vm and an ip for months kinda thing).09:28

I need to grow the cluster in the short term and I have two extra servers I can add today, each 35x 3TB disk. I'll add a 3rd high capacity server when it arrives... notmynameblimus: basically, yes. you could start getting 507 errors (not enough storage space) responses when your first zones fill up. however, swift is surprisingly good at continuing to accept new data as the cluster fills up. likely what will happen in your case is that you will see PUTs accepted but perhaps not available for GETs17:03
*** Gekitsuu has quit IRC17:04
notmynameblimus: you can get around this somewhat by lowering the weight on the smaller zones, but that would make them less efficient17:04

notmynameblimus: imaging that each drive in your cluster has a normalized size of 100 (dimentionless number for the sake of this conversation only). if you have 5 drives in one zone (total space of 500) and 10 drives in another (total space of 1000), then you will be "full" when the smaller zone fills up17:05
*** Gordonz has joined #openstack17:05
*** weetabeex has joined #openstack17:06
*** aspiers has joined #openstack17:06
notmynameblimus: you could reduce the weight so that more data goes to the bigger zone (effective sizes of say 50 and 150), but that will probably leave unused space on the drives. and at best it can only approximate different sized zones17:06
notmynameblimus: however, if you are just expanding temporarily, then you could add the space now and rebalance by backfilling the smaller zones17:07
blimusnotmyname: how would I backfill the smaller zones ?17:08

blimusIf I understand correctly, in object replication the replicator send the object-server as the destination a REPLICATE command which trigger the directory creation. I'm running tcpdump on port 6000 on the new server and nothing is being received. The rsyncd logs show lots of object transfer attempts that are failing.21:13

alex88hi guys, what does multi-host setting in nova.conf?21:38
evanjfraserHey guys, I have a problem where nova-compute won't start, seemingly because there are meant to be VM's running on the node.21:38
evanjfraserI've tried deleting the VM's, but they're stuck in state deleting.21:38
evanjfraserUm, is there any way to fix it?21:39
