maxdmlso I guess that due to the controller presence on the node, there may be an error in the configuration file that leads the service to fail starting10:09

gmibasil_:well, Openstack is not designed like that; the ssh key is securely available only from 169.254.169.254 address and cloud-init or a similar service downloads it right after boot and saves it in /root/.ssh/authorized_keys; you can write your own script that runs every 5 min, goes to your own external webserver and pulls down new keys19:48

saintxI have a question about my external network in quantum (the one I use to define the allocation pool for assigning floating IPs from)  If I have a small block of addresses to use for allocation (10.8.11.64/28), but those addresses are inside of a larger CIDR block (10.8.10.0/23), and the gateway for that larger block is 10.8.10.1, should I use the 10.8.10.0/23 as the  CIDR attribute when calling "quantum subnet-create", and the 10.8.10.1 as the gateway attr23:10
saintx Or should I use the smaller CIDR block (10.8.11.64/28) and the first assignable address (10.8.11.65) for those attributes?23:10

Brad_Knotmyname: the documentation at <http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-compute/install/apt/content/osfolubuntu-swift.html> has not yet been updated to match the latest recommended information at <http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/misc.html#module-swift.common.middleware.keystoneauth>.23:25

Brad_Kthe problem now is that using the swift CLI seems to just hang now, instead of returning a "connection refused" error.  sigh.....23:26
Brad_Kand no, there doesn't appear to be anything useful in the swift-proxy logs.  ;-(23:26
notmynameBrad_K: is there anything in the swift logs?23:26

notmynameBrad_K: I'd suggest trying the API commands individually so that you know exactly what is send an returned. an easy way to do it is with curl23:27
Brad_Kbut there is something interesting in /var/log/syslog.  it ends with "…#012ConfigurationError: unable to access signing dir /tmp/keystone-signing-swift".23:27
Brad_Kif that directory didn't exist, then i imagine there might be problems.23:28
*** Tross has quit IRC23:29
Brad_Kso, the directory now exists and is owner:group swift:swift.  Of course, there's a new bug: set() got an unexpected keyword argument 'time'23:30
*** ev0ldave has left #openstack23:30
notmynameBrad_K: hmm..that one I can help with I think. you are using recent versions of either keystone or swift (but not both)23:31
Brad_Kit should be recent versions of both.  i just started installing this machine this week, and i made sure everything was pointed at the precise-updates/grizzly repos.23:32

notmynameBrad_K: grizzly hasn't been release yet. swift's latest release is 1.7.6 (and we'll be cutting 1.8.0RC next week for grizzly).23:37
warikcrazy question but.. does anyone tried to create a windows7 image? I am stuck because i don't have the right disk driver23:37
notmynameBrad_K: during the grizzly cycle, keystone has added a patch that lets it use swift's memcache client, if it's available (which is good since without that keystone doesn't work well with swift)23:37
warikanyone know where I could find one fir windows7?23:38
notmynameBrad_K: but swift's memcache client has a different named argument than pymemcache uses (the lib keystone is using as a fallback). ("time" vs "timeout"). swift has merged a patch to change our memcache client, but that's been since the 1.7.6 release23:38

notmynameBrad_K: so you have 2 options: downgrade keystone or upgrade swift23:39
*** dolphm has joined #openstack23:39
notmynameBrad_K: well, two other options would be to wait until next week for the 1.8 swift rc release or patch swift locally23:40
*** jhesketh_ has joined #openstack23:40
Brad_Ki'd be okay with upgrading swift.  i mean, grizzly is already pretty bleeding edge for what we're trying to do.  might as well be bleeding everywhere, right?23:40

notmynameBrad_K: there's no package for the current state of master, so you'd have to install swift from source. I /think/ it would be as simple as `python ./setup.py install`23:42
Brad_Ki'd also be fine with locally patching swift.23:43

Brad_Kis there an obvious solution for applying the commit you mentioned as a patch to an existing install?  github provides a nice prettified context diff, but that's not something that i could feed to the patch command.  a regular context diff would be something that i might actually be able to feed to patch.23:44
