level7Hi all01:31
level7I have some strange behavior and it would be great to have some hint where I should look at. I have ocata installed with 3 compute nodes and it works. After some time I installed a new node and I guess it's installed correctly (I see the agents  of nova compute and neutron)01:32
level7but when I try to deploy a new instance on that node (that has a specific binding association on it) it seems like it is not even considered by the controller01:33
level7it's like if the controller ignores it.. it tries to bind the network on the other compute nodes, but obviously that specific network does not exists and so it miserabily fails after trying on the first 3 nodes01:34
level7I checked the logs on the controller and on the compute nodes but I do not see any track of it on the compute node.. it's like the controller does not ask "hey do you have this network there?"01:35

kplantspeaker1 with peer1, speaker2 with peer2, speaker3 with peer311:39
fricklerkplant: hmm, peer correspond to your provider routers, if you just have one, you only need to have one speaker with one peer, and can add that one to all three agents11:40
*** mmercer has quit IRC11:40
kplanti don't see how that would work if the three agents are on three different physical hosts with different IPs11:41

fricklerkplant: I have a simple (non-redundant) example at the end of https://cloudbau.github.io/openstack/neutron/networking/ipv6/2017/09/11/neutron-pike-ipv6.html11:42
kplanti would put something like ::0/127, ::2/127 and ::4/127 on the upstream router11:42
kplantand then ::1/127, 3::/127 and 5::/127 on the three machines11:42
kplantoh that's yours? i already read that :-D11:43
kplant'twas a good read11:43
fricklerthx11:43
kplantyou see what i mean though? i don't see how i can peer redundantly without three separate peers11:44
kplanteven if it's to the same upstream device11:44
fricklerkplant: in my deployment, I'd have just one shared vlan. upstream routers are ::2 and ::3, neutron agents are ::11 and ::1211:44
frickleron each upstream router, you have sessions to ::11 and ::12. in neutron you add peer ips ::2 and ::311:44
kplantyeah, exactly11:45
fricklerso just one speaker with two peer ips11:45
*** rpittau is now known as rpittau|bbl11:45
kplantand you scheduled the speaker on the two nodes with ::11 and ::12 ?11:46
fricklerkplant: exactly11:46
kplantwouldn't that mean ::11 tries to peer with ::2 and ::3 as well as ::12 trying to peer with ::2 and ::3?11:46
kplantwhich i guess is fine if the upstream is configured correctly11:47
fricklerbut actually it would be a good idea to do a respin of my blog post adding information about a HA setup.11:47
fricklerkplant: yes, that would happen, but that is exactly what you need for a fully redundant setup11:47
kplantoh i see, ::2 and ::3 are different routers11:48
kplanti was thinking of a virtual chassis11:48
kplantthat makes perfect sense then11:48
kplantyou're doing a mesh11:48
kplanti get you know, yeah i get you 100% now11:49
kplantthanks for the conversation!11:49
fricklerwelcome, nice to hear that someone actually reads my writings ;)11:50
kplantmy only critique: "neighbor 2001:db8:4321:e0::42 as 65001;"11:50
kplanti had no idea where that neighbor came from11:50
kplantand the neutron documentation isn't much better11:51
kplantit wasn't clear the address of the host was used, and not some interface that was plopped on a neutron network11:51

level7Good morning all.. I am struggling with Ocata and trying to understand where to look.... I have multiple nodes and lately I was thinking to use this AMD thing. It's a fresh box and it should support KVM but anyway I set qemu in the nova-compute.conf13:19
level7I have installed one specific network on this new box so that when the instance should be created, the only choice should be this box13:20
*** BloqueNegro has quit IRC13:21
level7however, what happens is that this compute node is never "asked" from the controller to start the instance. It only talks with the other instances but this one seems not been considered by the controller13:21
*** tkajinam has joined #openstack13:22
level7the compute node is present in the "openstack network agent list" (true/UP) and also in the "openstack compute service list" is Enabled/UP13:25
level7any hint?13:28
level7why the compute node is never selected by the controller as target for the deployment of the image?/13:28

level7egrep -c '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo => 1213:32
level7however.... it's <cpu>  <arch>x86_64</arch> <model>Opteron_G3</model> <vendor>AMD</vendor> <topology sockets='1' cores='12' threads='1'/>13:33
counterpartmaybe there is a config value to set in order to have the controller see qemu hypervisors?13:33
level7so I was suspecting that maybe kvm was not happy about this CPU and therefore I tried to "force this node" with QEMU13:34
counterpartor assign it13:34
level7switched to kvm just to check the output of nova on the compute node13:36
level7ok started with kvm and in the log I do not see any "domain type=kvm" section ... I see only domain type=qemu.... that is one thing that makes me think there is something wrong13:39
level7should I tell to the controller to accept also QEMU , somewhere? I mean it must be forced ?13:39
level7or maybe something specific for this processor and ocata ?13:41
level7maybe the cirrus example does not run on QEMU ?13:44
level7well CirrOS should support QEMU but maybe you are right that something should be done for the controller to suport KVM + QEMU13:46
