sgwMorning all13:17
dpenneysgw: looks like all the dependent reviews for the train upgrade have approvals now: https://review.opendev.org/#/q/status:open+topic:train_upgrade14:12
sgwYup, you welcome to +w if you want.14:13
sgwI guess that's the last one.14:14
sgwBTW: any more thoughts on the logmgmt / python-daemon14:15
dpenneyit's just a simple daemon... I'd think rewriting it with a more modern daemon-runner-like thing is the right way to go, which I guess is their "Option 4"?14:19
dpenneyI'm going to ping Al and see if he has an opinion14:20
sgwI know it's a simple daemon, I am surprised that this is such an issue and there is not current solution for py3.  I tried to reach out to the maintainer of the python-daemon project but got radio silence14:22
dpenneyoption 5: we just drop the /dev/null redirects?14:25
sgwThat's why I ask about changing logmgmt, it's just for stderr I think based on the patches proposed?14:28
dpenneyI definitely agree with changing logmgmt instead of an upstream pkg, 100%14:29
donnydhow are you  doing with the CI as far as resourcing goes. I can imagine starlingx may need extra resourcing, but I am unsure.14:39
*** mthebeau has joined #starlingx14:41
sgwHi donnyd, I guess it depends on how you define CI, I am not sure that we really do full CI since we don't build an ISO and test it on every commit, we do daily builds and sanity test those as independant steps (currently)14:49
donnydAre you using the upstream CI? and I guess I am curious if the standard flavor size is working for your needs14:49
donnydI know a couple of the heavier CI jobs need some additional resourcing or customized flavors to get the jobs done faster and I wanted starlingx to know there are resources available14:50
sgwupstream CI?  we are not doing any kind of 3rd party CI, we use Zuul for basic tests currently14:50
donnydok14:51
donnydupstream == opendev in this case14:51
sgwAh, for running our Virtual tests vs Bare Metal tests?14:51
sgwThe problem I think becomes running VMs inside of the VM under test14:52
donnydwell in some providers there is nested virt to take advantage of to speed that stuff up14:54
donnydand looking at what the job is bound by, sometimes the larger flavors can be helpful as well14:55
dpenneysgw: kicked the train_upgrade reviews... I'll keep an eye on the commits15:25
sgwdpenney: great15:32
dpenneysgw: ok, they're all in Zuul's hands now15:41

sgwjsomervi1: could you take another swing thought the 4.18_kernel patches, specifily the kernel-std and kernel-rt17:51
*** jrichard has joined #starlingx17:53
jsomervi1sgw, yeah I'll get to it soon18:06
dpenneysgw: looks like the train upgrade commits have caused an issue... I think the problem is here: https://opendev.org/starlingx/tools/src/branch/master/centos-mirror-tools/yum.repos.d/StarlingX_CentOS-OpenStack-train.repo#L2918:35
dpenneyit has centos-openstack-Stein-source as the label instead of centos-openstack-train-source, conflicting with the real stein entry, and resulting in failure to download train src rpms18:36
dpenneytrying to see if a correction there fixes the issue18:39

stampederTrouble with Kickstart script line 266. "Specified installation (sda) or boot (sda) device is a USB drive" It should be looking to install on sdb?18:47
stampedersgw: I'm still having an issue with it finding sdb to install. Sorry, I lost our previous conversation...arghh.18:48
stampedersgw; Still new to Kiwi. I just found the eavesdrop logs and our previous conversation.19:24
sgwstampeder: sorry, was our for a bit.  Did you resolve the issue of setting boot cmdline?  rootfs_device=sdb  boot_device=sdb20:02
stampedersgw: Not quite yet. Do I edit the grub.cfg in the EFI directory on the USB?20:04
sgwyou can edit the cmdline at boot time, select the flavor of machine simplex vs duplex, ... then when you get serial vs graphic, select the line and press e to edit the line and change it there.20:05
sgwor you can edit grub.cfg, if it's not read-only sometimes, that is setup as an ISO image so it's write protected20:05
stampedersgw: Let me see if I got this right. So I boot the usb. It comes up to the flavor screen. I hit CTRL-O. This gets me to the console prompt. Where will I find the cmdline? Sorry to be so dumb. Learning curve. Yes, the grub.cfg on the USB is write protected. I found that out.20:13
sgwstampeder: no ctrl-O as far as I know select flavor then use 'e' on either graphical or Serial console that should get you to grub edit then Ctrl-X to boot the modified cmdline20:15

stampederThanks SGW. I'll give it a try.20:18
stampedersgw: EXCELLENT!!!! It seems to be installing StarlingX now. Very strange it wouldn't pick up sdb for install. Thanks again for the help.20:34
sgwstampeder: I will have to look at that code again, maybe because we hard wired the initial choice, I wonder if you did not set rootfs_ or boot_ at all if it would work correctly20:37
stampederNo it will not. I've tried it on a couple of different machines with two different iso usb's of different versions. It always halts saying the sda is a usb drive.20:39
sgwOk, I thought it was supposed to recognize different disks, I will have to dig around maybe dpenney can comment20:45

sgwstampeder: thanks for the info21:24
jsomervi1sgw burning out for the day, will have another go at kernel-rt tomorrow21:36
sgwjsomervi1: got it.  Thanks for starting.21:37
