@jangutter:matrix.orgLast night I was super impressed with myself, figuring out that google-re2 vendors in libre2 in wheels and a binary dependency could potentially be dropped. This morning I found out that they haven't shipped python 3.13 wheels yet - so the dependency may yet remain.13:08
@clarkb:matrix.orgjangutter: and to make that more complicated they need newer libraries to build the python3.13 wheels than are available on ubuntu noble14:58
@clarkb:matrix.orgI started looking into that a while back before I decided it was more effort than it was worth at the time. But as time goes on without an updated wheel from upstream that calculation may shift in favor of figuring out how to build a wheel14:58
@jangutter:matrix.orgI did notice that someone attempted a release a few weeks ago: job seems to have failed in github due to deprecations. Their gerrit is super quiet.15:35
@clarkb:matrix.orgjangutter: if you want to dig into it more I think there is bazel tooling to build the wheel which will in theory pull all the necessary libs into a build env for you15:36
@clarkb:matrix.orgthat isn't great for building a wheel during zuul install time but it may make hosting a forked wheel on pypi possible15:37
@clarkb:matrix.orgif we set up a zuul job to run bazel to build and upload a wheel15:37
@jangutter:matrix.orgYeah, I saw the review sent up here: 63490: Build wheels for Python 3.13. | https://code-review.googlesource.com/c/re2/+/6349015:37
@jim:acmegating.comif we need to fork it, we could host it in opendev and build and publish with zuul15:41
@jangutter:matrix.orgWhat's the timeline targeted for python3.13 adoption?15:42
@jim:acmegating.comi don't think we're in a rush; 3.12 has a few years till eol15:43
@jangutter:matrix.orgIt's still possible that they wake up from deep slumber. Oh man, I guess at least there's no need to build 32-bit binaries anymore. And the beauty of pypi is each separate project has to solve the same problem in their own way.15:53
@clarkb:matrix.orgAIUI there is no specific team that works on those open source libraries. Instead its anyone within the open source group at google. On top of that rumor is they have banned python for internal work so this could be fallout from that15:54

-@gerrit:opendev.org- Grzegorz Grasza proposed wip: [zuul/zuul] 954361: Add complete OpenAPI specs and descriptions https://review.opendev.org/c/zuul/zuul/+/95436116:47
@clarkb:matrix.orgcorvus: does launch timeout need documentation? I'm actually not sure what the overall plan for docs are. I know we're in semi secret mode until its ready so maybe that is a deferred task16:50
@jim:acmegating.comdeferred; not documenting anything until things settle down; options still may move around a bit16:59
-@gerrit:opendev.org- Grzegorz Grasza marked as active: [zuul/zuul] 954361: Add complete OpenAPI specs and descriptions https://review.opendev.org/c/zuul/zuul/+/95436117:16
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgo/ have ye ever seeen a buildset result of error with message Build succeeded. and all jobs report success19:29
@clarkb:matrix.orgI don't remember ever seeing that. But maybe query the builds listing for the change and pipeline and see if there are any entries that provide more clues?19:42
@clarkb:matrix.org(just wondering if maybe the db content for the buildset is somehow incomplete and there is an additional failed build)19:42

@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgunfortunetly i dont think i have access to dig deeper. i assume i woudl need to sign in and make an autheticated request to the zuul api or ssh into the zuul host19:49
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgi mentiond this to our downstream folks that are runnign the ci so if they get back to me with more info i can let ye know19:50
@mordred:waterwanders.comsean-k-mooney: I would assume the first answer to most problems would be to just give you access to dig deeper ;)19:52
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgsee but that make it my probelm instead of theres :) 19:53
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgactully i might be able to list the build by change and pipelien with my defautl access i jsut wont be able to look in the db/logs19:56
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgbut im late for a dog walk so maybe tomorrow if i find time19:56
@clarkb:matrix.orgsean-k-mooney: if you can see the build set you should be able to see the builds listing in the UI too19:58
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgyep just looked at the pipe line19:59
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgthere was one failed build on 2025-07-03  but all the buidls that ran at the time of the buildset above passed19:59
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgthats form a perodic pipelien and i have seen that state across several diffent days20:00
@jim:acmegating.comsean-k-mooney: it likely means there was an error in one of the configured pipeline reporters; the details will be in the service log.20:03
@jim:acmegating.com(ie, the scheduler log)20:04
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgah now that is a good suggestion i know three were some cert errors a week or two ago 20:05
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgso it might be something similar20:05
@jim:acmegating.comya, might be something like not being able to talk to an mqtt server or opensearch or something20:05
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgreading the internal slack tread about this it looks like it related to the opensearch reporting20:09
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.orgapprently the host that runs it had a disk issue so it currently offline whiel that is beign fixed20:09
@sean-k-mooney:matrix.organyway i really better wrap up. thanks for the insight20:10
