15:01:52 <openstack> The meeting name has been set to 'ansible_sig'
15:02:00 <sshnaidm> hi dtantsur
15:02:09 <dtantsur> \o/
15:02:24 <dtantsur> let's ping moar people, I guess?
15:02:32 <sshnaidm> mordred, cloudnull mnaser and anybody interested, welcome to the meeting
15:02:39 <dtantsur> I've spotted a wild mordred around recently
15:02:46 <sshnaidm> dtantsur, yeah, feel free to add them :)
15:03:34 <sshnaidm> mordred exactly sent a few patches
15:04:19 <sshnaidm> I don't have a specific agenda for today, please feel free to discuss any topics
15:04:32 <noonedeadpunk> o/
15:04:35 <mordred> I'm working on updating the guidlines patch
15:04:39 <dtantsur> maybe a status update on the release?
15:04:45 <mordred> so I'll have that up shortly after this meeting
15:04:49 <mordred> that's a great idea
15:04:52 <mordred> so - there's two pieces:
15:05:34 <mordred> https://review.opendev.org/#/c/710048/ <-- this is a TC resolution asserting that this SIG is responsible for the openstack namespace in galaxy
15:06:15 <dtantsur> nice
15:06:23 <mordred> once that's in, I'm going to suggest that we have the infra team manage an account that can upload the collections on our behalf (since there is an established secrets management there)
15:06:43 <mordred> and once that account is in place, we'll get the secret put in zuul and be off to the races
15:06:55 <mordred> I'm also working on uploading pre-release manually for now
15:07:03 <mordred> which is where the latest three patches came from :)
15:07:08 <sshnaidm> mordred++
15:07:21 <mordred> all in all - I think we're getting somewhere! :)
15:07:24 <sshnaidm> mordred, do you know if we have ansible roles for collections from Paul?
15:07:37 <sshnaidm> mordred, yeah, that's great, thank you!
15:07:38 <mordred> sshnaidm: no - I'll follow up with him again today
15:08:02 <sshnaidm> mordred, ack
15:08:27 <sshnaidm> maybe then I'll submit at least building role
15:08:44 <mordred> ++
15:08:51 <sshnaidm> mordred, any news about session in ptg?
15:08:54 <mordred> sshnaidm: note we have tox -ebuild now
15:09:27 <mordred> yes - I requested a day at the PTG for SDK/OSC/ansible-openstack
15:09:41 <mordred> so we'll have a table somewhere and can split the time across those projects as we see fit
15:10:32 <mordred> another topic we should come to agreement on: https://review.opendev.org/#/c/710641/ - python version support
15:11:17 <sshnaidm> yeah, so we are going to limit support for py3 only, right?
15:11:32 <mordred> I think we should not pretend to support python2 with the collection - and dtantsur made a good point that we're only testing >=3.6 - so maybe we start with 3.6 as the min supported version?
15:11:34 <mordred> yeah
15:11:39 <dtantsur> ++
15:11:48 <sshnaidm> agree
15:11:56 <mordred> cool. I'll update that patch to say 3.6
15:12:16 <sshnaidm> what are possible options for those still using py2 in their machines?
15:12:26 <sshnaidm> just trying to think what can be broken..
15:12:28 <mordred> to not upgrade to more recent ansible
15:12:39 <sshnaidm> to stay with 2.9, yeah
15:13:01 <mordred> yeah - I mean - if they're running that recent of ansible, they must have the ability to install things that are not just in 2.7 only distros
15:13:23 <mordred> and since these are openstack api modules, they don't actually need to run them _on_ the same machines as openstack
15:13:47 <mordred> so even if they're running an old cloud on 2.7 and want to use latest ansible - they can install openstacksdk on the same machien they have ansible on and still talk to it
15:13:59 <mordred> maybe it's worth point that out in the README
15:14:10 <sshnaidm> yeah, definitely
15:14:31 <sshnaidm> something like "For py2 users" section
15:14:57 <dtantsur> with just the word "C'MON!!!"
15:15:01 <mordred> dtantsur: :)
15:15:06 <sshnaidm> and also mention there we support 3.6 only
15:15:29 <sshnaidm> dtantsur, I know people using centos6, this is really "cmon" :)
15:15:40 <dtantsur> heh
15:15:54 <dtantsur> I'm pretty sure somebody out there is using centos5 because hey it works!
15:16:09 <sshnaidm> well, starting from 5 it really worked well :)
15:17:03 <sshnaidm> great, so anything else you want to talk about?
15:17:56 <mordred> no - I think that's great. thanks for your work getting the repo set up sshnaidm - it's been easy to write a billion patches this past week :)
15:18:07 <sshnaidm> just a reminder, please take a look on patches https://review.opendev.org/#/q/project:openstack/ansible-collections-openstack
15:18:11 * mordred hopes everyone is enjoying the reviewing
15:18:31 <sshnaidm> mordred, sure, thank you for this great work as well
15:18:58 * sshnaidm is looking forward to start using these collections in tripleo
15:19:25 <sshnaidm> and starting moving modules written in tripleo to these collection as well
15:19:30 <mordred> sshnaidm: ++
15:19:34 <dtantsur> mordred++ sshnaidm++
15:19:35 <mordred> sshnaidm: I also look forward to that
15:19:58 <sshnaidm> great, so I think we're good for today
15:20:04 <mordred> sshnaidm: I believe paul has some work in ansible-network already for doing speculative galaxy servers like we have for speculative containers
15:20:32 <sshnaidm> mordred, speculative..?
15:20:33 <mordred> so I *think* we should be able to build depends-on jobs for tripleo that will just set up a galaxy url and the new collection version will be present
15:20:48 <sshnaidm> mordred, oh, yeah, I know what you mean
15:21:01 <mordred> I think it'll be really cool once it's all together
15:21:25 <sshnaidm> mordred, yep, I liked this idea, job that sets up galaxy and child job that uses it, really cool
15:21:30 <mordred> ++
15:21:42 <sshnaidm> yeah, that would be great
15:21:51 <sshnaidm> also good test for publishing
15:22:18 <mordred> ++
15:22:43 <sshnaidm> ok, any other topics to talk?
15:23:23 <sshnaidm> great, thanks all for participation today!
15:23:29 <sshnaidm> #endmeeting
