15:00:43 <felipe_rodrigues> hi
15:00:47 <jayaanand> hi
15:01:14 <dviroel> o/
15:02:14 <thiagoalvoravel> o/
15:02:20 <carloss> courtesy ping: carthaca
15:03:02 <msaravan> o/
15:03:03 <haixin> o/
15:03:58 <carloss> #link https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Manila/Meetings#Next_meeting
15:04:05 <carloss> today's meeting agenda ^
15:04:14 <carloss> I believe we can make it brief today
15:04:36 <carloss> a big part of the crowd is on PTO
15:05:32 <carloss> so our first topic:
15:05:36 <carloss> #topic Announcements
15:05:48 <carloss> Schedule and Deadlines
15:05:50 <carloss> #link https://releases.openstack.org/bobcat/schedule.html
15:05:58 <carloss> so today is feature freeze day
15:07:14 <carloss> we'll get to the changes in a few
15:07:46 <carloss> but I believe we are in a good shape. Also, for the client release. The client deprecation patch is in the gate now
15:10:19 <carloss> the next manila-specific theme in the schedule is the manila bugsquash
15:10:41 <carloss> which should happen in a couple of weeks... We might need to change the dates but we'll check on that
15:11:36 <felipe_rodrigues> carloss: can you explain what bugsquash is ? We have some new NetApp members
15:12:43 <carloss> and last bit of announcements: on the day of the next week's weekly upstream meeting (Sep 7th) is a big holiday in Brazil and I have the feeling that we'll have a smaller audience, because some people might be still taking PTO after the US holidays
15:13:17 <carloss> so I'll check with more people, but if it is the case, are you okay if we cancel the next week's upstream meeting?
15:13:30 <carloss> > carloss: can you explain what bugsquash is ? We have some new NetApp members
15:13:30 <carloss> ah, thanks felipe_rodrigues - that is a great question
15:14:09 <felipe_rodrigues> +1 cancel
15:14:23 <carloss> so the bugsquash is an event we try to promote once or twice in the cycle, and we try to get closure for bugs...
15:14:43 <jayaanand> +1 cancel
15:15:33 <carloss> there were bugsquash events where we would be targeting getting open bugs and focusing on fixing them over the course of the week, so the authors of the changes and the reviewers would have more focus on reviews and such bugs among the list
15:15:58 <carloss> we usually come up with a list based on launchpad bugs, but we will always discuss if it makes sense to keep the bugs on the list or not
15:16:13 <carloss> last release, we did something different
15:17:04 <carloss> we are currently seeing a trend in launchpad: number of bugs "in progress" (aka fix proposed but not merged yet) was increasing
15:17:26 <carloss> so we came up with the list and had an open chat. we focused on getting as many bugs from the list merged as possible
15:18:03 <msaravan> thank you carloss
15:18:04 <carloss> so the essence of the event is: having a specific time frame in the cycle where we'll attempt to close a lot of bugs
15:18:58 <carloss> that doesn't mean we shouldn't be closing bugs throughout the cycle, it's just us trying to do like a "final" push for some bugs or an incentive to get some fixes landing, and making operators/users happy :D
15:20:18 <carloss> so, it's usually fun because we can get together, discuss some changes and do things collaboratively
15:20:27 <carloss> np msaravan
15:20:40 <msaravan> got it;
15:21:14 <carloss> I'll also provide a summary in the mailing list
15:22:13 <carloss> it's important to get a lot of people participating, because that will mean we will have more reviewers and likely more bugs being fixed... so if you can't make it in the dates, please let me know and I'll be happy to accommodate changes
15:22:47 <carloss> I'm happy to take questions if you have any :)
15:24:01 <msaravan> Good for now. We'll participate. Thank you.
15:24:09 <carloss> thanks :D
15:24:31 <carloss> we'll be happy to have you guys
15:24:40 <carloss> okay, so that's all I had for announcements
15:24:59 <carloss> do you have an announcement to share with us today?
15:26:44 <carloss> taking silence as no...
15:26:47 <carloss> #topic Review Focus
15:27:11 <carloss> #link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/manila-bobcat-review-focus (Review focus etherpad)
15:29:38 <carloss> so most changes we were targeting are now merged
15:29:56 <carloss> there are only a few left:
15:30:26 <carloss> #link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/manila/+/890291 (NetApp Active IQ scheduler weigher)
15:30:41 <carloss> and the cephfs driver changes
15:31:00 <carloss> on the NetApp Active IQ: you've got my positive feedback, felipe_rodrigues
15:31:11 <felipe_rodrigues> should we wait for gouthamr ? He reviewed it
15:31:39 <felipe_rodrigues> I mean take a FFE to get his approval
15:31:54 <carloss> felipe_rodrigues: gouthamr is on PTO, I'm afraid we'll need other reviewer if we want to get this merged over this week
15:31:59 <carloss> he'll be back next Thursday
15:33:35 <felipe_rodrigues> I got it. I think we dont have enough time to wait him
15:33:41 <carloss> yeah
15:34:36 <felipe_rodrigues> who can take it ? I solved his comments.. Just one about adding a cache I explained why not now.
15:35:10 <carloss> so, another option is: we try to get as many reviewers and feedback as possible on this change and merge it, if there is something shows up, it can be addressed as a follow-up
15:35:32 <carloss> the only two more active reviewers at the moment are haixin and dviroel - and both are super busy
15:35:37 <felipe_rodrigues> yeah.. works
15:36:18 <dviroel> I will take a look at my EoD
15:36:35 <felipe_rodrigues> thank you dviroel :)
15:37:27 <felipe_rodrigues> it is a single patch with not many lines.. we have. NetApp CI testing it too
15:37:54 <carloss> tyvm dviroel
15:38:23 <carloss> so if all other netappers that already provided feedback on the change could circle back and post their +1/-1 would be good too
15:39:54 <carloss> so as for features and the big changes, that's it
15:40:11 <carloss> thank you very much everyone for all the effort on reviewing the changes and pushing patches
15:41:20 <carloss> I am pursuing the client release today. The gate was broken until this morning
15:41:55 <carloss> but we managed to unblock it by bumping the tox version
15:42:13 <dviroel> carloss++
15:42:16 <carloss> there is only one change in the gate yet to merge:
15:42:20 <carloss> #link https://zuul.opendev.org/t/openstack/status#879130
15:42:52 <carloss> this is the patch that adds the deprecation warning to python-manilaclient and I can't express how happy I am to see this change getting merged
15:43:02 <carloss> this was a multi-cycle effort
15:43:06 <carloss> fingers crossed
15:43:28 * carloss doesn't want to provoke zuul's wrath
15:43:28 <dviroel> rip manila client :(
15:43:48 <carloss> rip :(
15:44:21 <carloss> > fingers crossed
15:44:21 <carloss> I'll expand on this later, because I'm not taking it as a win until it's actually merged :p
15:47:03 <carloss> the cephfs driver changes IMO can be considered as bug fixes, as they address the driver upgrades (that wouldn't work without them)
15:47:18 <carloss> we'll make an effort to get them in asap though
15:47:23 <carloss> so that's all I had for Review Focus... the other changes in the list are mostly bugfixes
15:47:34 <carloss> is there another change you'd like to bring up?
15:48:47 <carloss> #topic Bug Triage
15:48:49 <carloss> #link https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/manila-bug-triage-pad-new (Bug Triage etherpad)
15:49:10 <carloss> so thanks vhari for the bug list
15:50:06 <carloss> we have one new bug in the list
15:50:34 <carloss> #link https://bugs.launchpad.net/python-manilaclient/+bug/2032984
15:51:10 <carloss> apparently an RFE
15:52:18 <carloss> so I'd say low-prio? we can target this to the beginning of the next cycle
15:52:29 <felipe_rodrigues> good improvement.. It seems that without it there is low impact to the end user
15:52:32 <felipe_rodrigues> low too
15:53:21 <carloss> might be a good option for an outreachy or university intern
15:53:31 <carloss> ack, so setting prio to low, won't target it right now
15:54:30 <carloss> so that's all for bugs
15:54:34 <carloss> #topic Open Discussion
15:55:13 <carloss> is there something else you'd like to bring up today?
15:57:40 <carloss> taking silence as no
15:57:42 <carloss> #endmeeting
