16:02:14 <dougwig> #topic Announcements
16:02:43 <johnsom> Looks like the HP folks like the new time....
16:02:44 <dougwig> welcome to the new meeting time. i don't expect good attendance today, so we won't make any decisions.

16:03:31 <dougwig> #topic Advanced services split
16:04:32 <sballe> o/
16:04:49 <dougwig> this was a kilo summit session, during which there was consensus to start the process of splitting advanced services, including lbaas, out of neutron, and directly into an openstack project under the networking umbrella. ptl will remain mestery, and mark is shepherding things through the technical committee. there are no more details than that as of yet.
16:05:55 <dougwig> any serious questions/comments should wait for the next neutron meeting, when this topic will first official come up, but if anyone has any summit questions, fire away.
16:06:09 <dougwig> /official/officially/
16:06:44 <johnsom> I mostly just interested in timeline and who/if we get some core reviewers...
16:06:46 <sballe> dougwig: Can you remind me when the neutron meeting is?
16:07:28 <dougwig> sballe: it rotates: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Network/Meetings
16:07:32 <dougwig> next week is the tuesday slot.
16:07:38 <sballe> ok thx
16:07:59 <s3wong> sballe: the next one is in fact Tuesday also, two hours before this (1400 UTC?)
16:08:03 <vjay-netscaler> did we decide on what name to start with - positron or neutron-advanced-services?
16:08:03 <vjay-netscaler> or something else?
16:08:31 <dougwig> johnsom: timeline is that the TC must approve, then infra must split. for the TC to approve, it has to get on their meeting agenda and be voted on. looking at something measured in weeks there.
16:08:48 <dougwig> the name in the etherpad is positron. haven't heard anything from mestery on that yet.
16:09:39 <dougwig> any other questions?
16:10:36 <vjay-netscaler> guess we can move on
16:10:38 <dougwig> ok, moving on
16:10:41 <dougwig> #topic Driver changes
16:11:14 <dougwig> I don't see blogan, so we'll likely postpone these items until next week, but all got some discussion at the summit:
16:11:17 <dougwig> Drivers, splitting status into operational and provisioning, and getting rid of DEFERRED
16:11:23 <dougwig> Drivers, potential taskflow model, all async
16:11:28 <dougwig> v2 Object Model - Potentially simplifying the object relations or making the objects purely logical constructs
16:12:20 <dougwig> does everyone here know what those topics are about, or do you want a quick summary of any of them?
16:13:21 <dougwig> ok, moving on
16:13:23 <dougwig> #topic Open discussion
16:13:24 <kobis> hi, just joined the lbaas effort. so i'd appreciate a quick summary
16:13:32 <dougwig> #undo
16:13:32 <openstack> Removing item from minutes: <ircmeeting.items.Topic object at 0x18bc210>
16:13:46 <dougwig> hi kobis!
16:14:01 <kobis> hi!
16:14:43 <dougwig> for the first, if you look in the current lbaas v2 reviews, you'll see the driver doing a lot of work to maintain ACTIVE or DEFERRED status for each lbaas object. we're talking about doing away with the drivers needing to worry about that.
16:15:13 <dougwig> for the second, oslo has a taskflow library with event callbacks, and we're considering making all driver interfaces asynchronous, and use that task flow interface.
16:15:33 <dougwig> for the third, well, let's save that one for next week, or find me offline.
16:15:52 <dougwig> #topic Open discussion
16:15:53 <kobis> ok, thanks
16:16:07 <dougwig> anyone have anything that want to discuss with this drastically smaller than normal group? :)
16:16:18 <dougwig> kobis, where are you from, what are you interested in working on?
16:16:53 <kobis> joined vmware a few weeks ago
16:17:36 <IZebra> Hello
16:17:48 <dougwig> hiya IZebra
16:18:14 <dougwig> most are still traveling/recovering from the summit, so unless anyone has anything else, we'll end today's meeting.
16:18:28 <sballe> ok have a great day
16:18:47 <kobis> ok, take care
16:18:51 <vjay-netscaler> dougwig, should the drivers be resubmitted to lbaasv2 branch?
16:19:02 <IZebra> This is my first time to participate one openstack meeting.
16:19:35 <dougwig> vjay-netscaler: i, personally, am going to hold off until post-split. if you want to start getting feedback now, by all means feel free.
16:20:03 <dougwig> IZebra: welcome, and it's going to be a short one. :)
16:20:38 <IZebra> I want to know the future of lbaas. I mean is the service-based method or the hardware-base will be the technology trend
16:23:34 <johnsom> IZebra, there are folks from hardware companies and software based solutions that contribute here.
16:23:39 <dougwig> that's a pretty broad question. i, personally, think there will be a place for both. i'd recommend asking that in #openstack-lbaas, probably during your very early morning, as most of the lbaas folks are not morning people (that should be their afternoon.)
16:23:54 <johnsom> We try to support both through a driver based system
16:25:12 <IZebra> So is the namespaces-based also good?
16:26:01 <dougwig> this meeting is meant to be focused on development activities. can we move these questions to the #openstack-lbaas channel? i'll switch over as soon as the meeting is ended.
16:26:23 <kobis> dougwig:
16:26:50 <IZebra> OK
16:26:53 <kobis> is this meeting closed yet?
16:27:01 <IZebra> I got it
16:27:06 <dougwig> just about to be, unless we have any final questions.
