13:00:40 <vkmc> hi everybody
13:00:40 <openstack> The meeting name has been set to 'outreachy_end_of_internship_meeting'
13:00:44 <vkmc> who is here for today's meeting?
13:00:46 <mahatic> o/
13:00:52 <vkmc> o/
13:00:57 <sjain_> Hi everyone!
13:01:32 <iwonka> helloeveryone
13:01:41 <rodrigods> hey
13:02:07 <rodrigods> ping raildo lwanderley
13:02:13 <raildo> o/
13:02:26 <vkmc> #link https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/outreachy-end-may-aug-2017
13:03:00 <vkmc> mahatic, could you start by telling interns about PTG/Summit?
13:03:00 <lwanderley> o/
13:03:19 <mahatic> vkmc: sure
13:04:19 <mahatic> I think we did bring this up in the initial meeting, but as refresher, lemme paste a couple of links and go over them
13:04:38 <mahatic> https://www.openstack.org/ptg/
13:06:15 <mahatic> that's the PTG link. Project team gathering takes place every six months, i.e. at the beginning of a new development cycle
13:06:38 <vkmc> next PTG is September 11th
13:07:31 <mahatic> consider attending if you are an active contributor to the project. This is more relevant to talk about project design, to make progress on existing development work
13:07:50 <mahatic> and collaborate on cross-project work
13:08:01 <mahatic> vkmc: thanks
13:08:39 <mahatic> September 11th is soon approaching, and deadlines to apply/register have passed
13:09:45 <mahatic> But there's OpenStack summit coming up, in Sydney. I hope you have applied for travel support
13:10:48 * rodrigods did :)
13:11:00 <vkmc> :D
13:11:13 <mahatic> The summit is going to be a place for users and developers to brainstorm on requirements, gather feedback and also a place to meetup with ops (if they haven't attended the ptg)
13:12:15 <mahatic> It will also be a good place for interns to meet people in person and know about openstack eco-system
13:13:01 <rodrigods> mahatic, +1
13:13:14 <rodrigods> i've been attending openstack summits since vancouver 2015
13:13:15 <mahatic> there will be events related to "Women of OpenStack" and my suggestion would be to consider attending those
13:13:28 <rodrigods> it is a great experience
13:13:38 <mahatic> rodrigods: +1
13:15:03 <mahatic> there will also be events like "Speed mentoring" which would be a nice place to meetup people and sign up if you're interested in receiving guidance - technical or otherwise
13:15:34 <mahatic> watch out the summit schedule for those
13:15:45 <mahatic> And while you're at it be sure to let them know you've completed Outreachy internship and spread the word about the internship :)
13:16:10 <mahatic> any questions?
13:16:44 <sjain_> thanks mahatic and vkmc for informing about the events!
13:18:07 <vkmc> thanks mahatic
13:18:21 <vkmc> really hope that you can attend the summit
13:18:22 <vkmc> :)
13:18:30 <vkmc> and to the next PTG
13:18:56 <mahatic> +1
13:19:06 <vkmc> so... if there are no doubts related to these events
13:19:12 <raildo> rodrigods, tellesnobrega and I will be doing a panel about the program and why is important to be a Mentor, so if you're gonna to attend the Summit, we will love to share your experience with the attendees :)
13:19:14 <vkmc> let's move to the next item in the agenda
13:19:15 <raildo> #link https://www.openstack.org/summit/sydney-2017/summit-schedule/events/19332/why-are-you-not-a-mentor-in-the-openstack-community-yet?BackURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.openstack.org%2Fsummit%2Fsydney-2017%2Fsummit-schedule%2Fglobal-search%3Ft%3Draildo%23eventid%3D19332
13:19:21 <vkmc> raildo++
13:19:34 <mahatic> raildo: that's awesome
13:19:37 <rodrigods> thanks for the reminder raildo :)
13:19:37 <vkmc> #topic What to do after the internship, how to keep involved
13:20:56 <vkmc> so... this highly depends on your interests
13:21:08 <vkmc> if you want to keep involved in OpenStack, and land a job in OpenStack
13:21:26 <vkmc> the summit will be very productive for you in that sense
13:21:44 <vkmc> otherwise, if you are studying and you don't want to get a job right now
13:21:52 <vkmc> you can keep involved with small tasks
13:22:25 <vkmc> such as... bug triaging, small docs fix, translation
13:22:30 <vkmc> if you can, reviewing
13:22:35 <vkmc> and small bug fixing
13:22:48 <mahatic> +1
13:23:03 <rodrigods> yeah, continuing the involvement is really useful as a learning experience
13:23:08 <mahatic> that way you're still involved in the project and with the people
13:24:41 <vkmc> also, keep pinging us, for anything you may need
13:24:42 <vkmc> :)
13:24:49 <vkmc> mentors, mahatic, another suggestion?
13:25:40 <mahatic> reviewing is also very valuable if you're unable to contribute code
13:25:51 <rodrigods> and writing blog posts (as you did for the internship)
13:26:06 <mahatic> +1
13:26:34 <mahatic> s/if/even if*
13:26:41 <raildo> and remember to be active here on irc, this is the best way to getting in touch with the community after the summit :)
13:27:07 <nishaYadav_> O/
13:27:29 <mahatic> indeed :)
13:28:08 <mahatic> nishaYadav_: welcome
13:29:22 <vkmc> all right
13:29:28 <vkmc> so... if there is nothing else to add
13:29:32 <vkmc> let's move to the next item
13:29:34 <vkmc> interns update
13:29:36 <vkmc> s
13:29:46 <vkmc> #topic Status from interns
13:29:53 <vkmc> sjain_, would you like to start?
13:30:13 <sjain_> yeah sure
13:30:38 <sjain_> So my project was on keystone documentation auditing and I worked closely with keystone and docs team, I helped them in docs migration from openstack manuals. I also worked on keystone docs layout and other improvements.
13:31:14 <sjain_> Apart from that I would like to thank my mentors samueldmq, nishaYadav and the whole keystone team, it was a great experience working with them, I learnt so much new stuff. The internship was such an awesome enriching experience for me, I feel blessed to be part of this community.
13:31:39 <sjain_> I learnt getting involved with the community
13:32:02 <sjain_> I'll miss the weekly meetings, daily interactions with team on IRC, they became a part of my schedule!
13:32:13 <mahatic> :)
13:32:21 <sjain_> Thanks vkmc and mahatic too for an awesome outreachy round!
13:32:25 <sjain_> :)
13:32:34 <vkmc> :) thanks you for all your hard work
13:32:36 <vkmc> and mentors1
13:32:57 <mahatic> sjain_: do you have any suggestions/ideas for improvements, in the process?
13:32:57 <rodrigods> +1
13:33:29 <sjain_> I think overall it was perfect
13:34:12 <sjain_> one improvement may be having a discussion round like this in the middle of internship
13:34:53 <sjain_> that will be a good chance for us to introspect our own projects and where we can improve
13:34:56 <sjain_> :)
13:35:07 <mahatic> ah sure, noted
13:35:23 <mahatic> that's a fair thing to say
13:35:39 <sjain_> :)
13:36:01 <mahatic> we did do it for a few of the previous rounds though
13:36:35 <mahatic> sjain_: thanks for all your work and the suggestion!
13:36:42 <vkmc> yes, thanks sjain_!
13:37:00 <sjain_> :)
13:37:04 <nishaYadav_> Yes, thanks :)
13:37:13 <nishaYadav_> Great work
13:37:18 <vkmc> great work indeed!
13:38:00 <vkmc> so, next one...
13:38:02 <sjain_> thanks nishaYadav_
13:38:11 <vkmc> lwanderley!
13:38:57 <lwanderley> hey
13:40:32 <lwanderley> My project was on devstack/keystone. Its purpose was to add a ci job to execute tests on a LDAP enabled scenario. That is when one of Kesytone's domain has an LDAP users backend
13:41:14 <lwanderley> There are a few patches waiting for reviews, but I think most of the work is done
13:41:39 <rodrigods> lwanderley, +1
13:41:43 <lwanderley> And of course, thanks to rodrigods and raildo, they are great!
13:42:02 <rodrigods> the devstack ldap plugin was broken for years, lwanderley fixed as her first task! :)
13:42:30 <raildo> lwanderley, you did a great job, congrats!
13:42:54 <vkmc> wohoo
13:42:56 <vkmc> that's awesome
13:43:01 <mahatic> lwanderley: congrats!
13:43:09 <lwanderley> thanks :D
13:43:26 <mahatic> Do let us know if you have any suggestions. Either here or later
13:44:19 <lwanderley> ok, i really liked sjain_'s suggestion, about the "midterm" discussion
13:44:49 <vkmc> yeah
13:44:59 <mahatic> +1, good to know
13:45:06 <vkmc> we used to do it... this time around we couldn't organize the midterm
13:45:14 <mahatic> yeah
13:45:14 <vkmc> but it's good to know that is something that was missed
13:45:23 <vkmc> so we make sure to do it next time
13:45:28 <mahatic> yup +1
13:46:28 <vkmc> good... and last but not least, iwonka
13:46:54 <iwonka> hi
13:47:27 <mahatic> hello
13:48:28 <iwonka> so, my project was in sahara - i added portability to sahara's templates, so i added new functions to rest api, commands to openstack CLI and stuff to gui
13:49:09 <iwonka> some of patches are still in review, and i'm sure i'll have to do at least one merge manuall, but gerenally things are done
13:49:25 <samueldmq> o/
13:49:42 * samueldmq 's late. he hides
13:50:15 <iwonka> and i learned really a lot (for which i have to thank tellesnobrega)
13:50:34 <iwonka> (and the rest of sahara team)
13:51:01 <iwonka> and i think that's it
13:52:24 <vkmc> thanks for all your hard work iwonka
13:52:28 <vkmc> any suggestion for us?
13:53:00 <iwonka> i may agree with sjain_ and lwanderley about mid internship meeting
13:53:18 <vkmc> awesome
13:53:54 <mahatic> iwonka: great and thank you for your work!
13:54:12 <iwonka> thanks for organizing the internship :)
13:54:37 <vkmc> thanks
13:54:44 <vkmc> ok... last five mins for open discussion
13:54:48 <mahatic> thanks too
13:54:50 <vkmc> #topic Open discussion
13:55:34 <iwonka> when is the next round of outreachy?
13:55:45 <vkmc> next round is Dec-Mar 2018
13:55:50 <vkmc> and the application process opens next week
13:56:11 <vkmc> want to join us as a mentor? :)
13:56:32 <iwonka> haha, not yet, i'm not experienced enough
13:56:41 <vkmc> yes you are
13:56:42 <iwonka> but i wanted to tell some my friends to apply
13:56:50 <vkmc> that would be awesome
13:56:53 <vkmc> please spread the word
13:56:59 <mahatic> iwonka: that would be very helpful
13:57:21 <iwonka> i will
13:59:14 <vkmc> well... I don't have anything else to bring up
13:59:38 <mahatic> me neither
13:59:40 <samueldmq> thank you everyone
13:59:45 <mahatic> it was good to have you all
13:59:47 <samueldmq> you all did a great job this round
13:59:52 <mahatic> +1
13:59:57 <vkmc> thanks for all your hard work
14:00:03 <samueldmq> thanks vkmc and mahatic for the continued support on keeping this program alive in OpenStack
14:00:22 <mahatic> np and thanks too samueldmq for continuing to be a mentor!
14:00:34 <vkmc> :D
14:00:36 <samueldmq> :D
