17:05:40 <sarob> Hello
17:05:43 <timfreund> hello
17:06:00 <dbite> hello
17:06:11 <sarob> Evening/morning
17:06:28 <dbite> evening/morning
17:07:49 <sarob> So not much on the agenda
17:08:05 <dbite> yes nothing much from my side too
17:08:16 <dbite> I'm waiting for the spec to get merged
17:09:27 <sayali> hello
17:09:28 <sarob> What's the status on branchig?
17:09:37 <sayali> sorry about the delay
17:09:43 <sarob> Hey sayali
17:09:45 <sarob> Np
17:11:13 <sarob> Sayali: your specs look good to me
17:11:31 <sarob> I will review within a few hours
17:11:41 <sarob> Still spinning back up
17:11:51 <dbite> sarob: as I said waiting for the spec to get merged, after that I can proceed forward
17:12:06 <sarob> Dbite: ah okay that spec
17:12:50 <sayali> sarob: alright. Roger has suggested somethings I could add..will add them to it to
17:13:03 <dbite> sarob: my hands are tied ;)
17:13:09 <matjazp> hey guys
17:13:19 <sarob> It's looks like we are waiting on ajaeger
17:13:23 <dbite> matjazp: hello
17:13:35 <sarob> Matjazp evening sir
17:13:55 <matjazp> sorry I'm late
17:14:00 <sarob> Np
17:14:01 <sayali> hello matjazp
17:15:11 <sarob> I move that we adopt the nova core reviewer standard
17:15:27 <sarob> Wanna vote on it?
17:15:44 <dbite> sarob: rlurthi is missing
17:15:51 <dbite> should we vote on ML?
17:16:08 <sarob> Dbite sure
17:16:47 <dbite> sarob: I have a question for you since we do not have much on the agenda
17:16:50 <sarob> #action sarob on ML ask for vote on adopting nova core reviewer standards
17:16:59 <sarob> Dbite hit me
17:17:14 <dbite> how is the training for SF bay group going? Any feedback on the labs section. That is really important for training labs
17:17:48 <sarob> Dbite I haven't introduced the labs yet
17:17:57 <dbite> sarob: ahh ok
17:18:10 <dbite> sarob: is there any agenda?
17:18:11 <sarob> Dbite I'm planning on doing that this next session later this month
17:18:13 <matjazp> dbite: how do we feel with adding some easier stuff in?
17:18:21 <matjazp> dbite: like lbaas
17:18:29 <dbite> matjazp: yes, thats why we need feedback
17:18:37 <dbite> because we need to know if this apporach is correct
17:18:42 <dbite> or if we need some design changes
17:18:58 <matjazp> dbite: Neutron is already installed, but I wanted to use lbaas and we have to switch to different training cluster
17:18:59 <dbite> to pile more stuff on it without knowing that would not be ideal
17:19:18 <dbite> matjazp: ok, we can add LbaaS support
17:19:31 <dbite> do you want to write an email to include roger into this discussion
17:19:35 <sarob> Keeping it simple as we are starting up trainers is pretty important
17:20:08 <sayali> I agree, feedback is necessary for the labs
17:20:16 <matjazp> dbite: since this is a training(!) cluster, it should have a lot of features, since the whole point of training is to introduce them to trainees :)
17:20:24 <sarob> But I would like to start seperating juno from kilo labs and materials
17:20:54 <dbite> matjazp: that is why we need some feedback
17:21:06 <dbite> to know if our approach is correct before getting into complex things
17:21:16 <dbite> we have spent a lot of time and effort into the current cluster
17:21:33 <sayali> also we need to know the audience and how much they would try to play with the cluster
17:21:51 <sarob_> I have created a survey
17:22:13 <sarob_> For the trainers to use, improve
17:22:46 <dbite> sarob_: matjazp there are many more improvements that we plan for the cluster including support to install the cluster into an existing cloud
17:22:52 <sarob_> This should be the way we get feedback on labs
17:23:02 <dbite> I have been working on 3rd level virtualization with OpenStack inside OpenStack for the training cluster
17:24:07 <matjazp> dbite: I usuall use devstack for trainees and I show them how to adapt configuration as the need different things. Training cluster should be also as flexible as possible (no bleeding edge features will be included, of course)
17:24:58 <dbite> matjazp: yes, for sure :)
17:25:39 <dbite> matjazp: can you get a list of features that your team requires for the cluster?
17:25:51 <matjazp> what I like so far: it's installed from packages, so it is closer to a "real life" cloud than devstack
17:26:10 <dbite> matjazp: it is same as real life cloud with degraded performance
17:27:13 <matjazp> dbite: When talking about neutron, I usually show them some features that look good in front of the audience, like LBaaS and autoscaling with heat.
17:27:14 <sarob_> Matjazp you can put your labs req into the developing topics etherpad
17:27:27 <matjazp> sarob_: sure
17:28:10 <sarob> Then dbite can pick them up in a new bp
17:28:22 <matjazp> oh... and performance... well... now it sucks for everything but the "lightest" scenarios regarding VMs
17:28:47 <matjazp> but that's Virtualboxes problem form not supporting nested virtualisation
17:28:59 <dbite> matjazp: ok, KVM is on the road map
17:28:59 <sarob> Dbite should I ping ajaeger on the spec?
17:29:13 <dbite> sarob: I can ping him as we work in the same city
17:29:18 <dbite> I think he is still on his vacation
17:29:28 <sarob> Dbite I heard about that ;)
17:29:34 <matjazp> One of my students tried to run a Windows server inside and just gave up.. it was tooooo slow
17:29:34 <sarob> Dbite ah
17:29:36 <dbite> sarob: :)
17:29:50 <dbite> matjazp: can we talk after the meeting?
17:30:10 <matjazp> dbite: huh, not today...
17:30:15 <dbite> or sometime this week? I would like to try and include Roger and Sayali in the conversation as they both are actively developing the cluster
17:30:42 <matjazp> dbite: sure, lets sync over mail
17:30:53 <sarob> Matjazp we need your specs my friend
17:31:24 <matjazp> sarob: ehhh.. yes... been lazy over holidays :(
17:31:35 <sarob> Matjazp me too
17:32:02 <matjazp> I tried to run devstack in a Docker container
17:32:46 <sarob> Matjazp what's result
17:32:48 <matjazp> interesting stuff, but its not working yet with libvirt
17:33:15 <matjazp> only with docker as a kypervisor
17:33:19 <matjazp> hypervisor
17:33:33 <sarob> Interesting
17:33:45 <matjazp> been looking for that is would solv e performance issues
17:33:46 <sarob> What's the benefit?
17:33:49 <sarob> Ah
17:33:53 <matjazp> as it would
17:33:57 <dbite> matjazp: it makes sense
17:34:12 <sarob> Matjazp that would be nice
17:34:12 <dbite> libvirt has thin chance to run under docker containers
17:34:55 <matjazp> dbite: well.. you can use some kernel modules, so *maybe* it can be done
17:35:38 <dbite> matjazp: as I said really difficult to run a full blown hypervisor inside a container
17:35:42 <matjazp> dbite: I found some interesting stuff with lxc as a driver
17:36:03 <matjazp> dbite: yes, it's not for all use cases
17:36:18 <matjazp> dbite: but its perfect for training cluster :)
17:36:19 <dbite> matjazp: ok, sounds interesting do you have any blog post about it?
17:36:39 <dbite> matjazp: you need to see the performance of the cluster in Libvirt :D
17:37:04 <dbite> KVM/libvirt I mean
17:37:21 <matjazp> dbite: yes, I know, its practically the same as in bare metal
17:37:34 <dbite> yep, runs very smooth
17:37:37 <matjazp> dbite: been using devstack in Fusion
17:38:09 <dbite> matjazp: the problem with the cluster as of now is that its really limited by virtualbox and we have lower disk space for running heavy VMs like Win7 etc.
17:38:25 <dbite> matjazp: I would need to talk to Roger about it
17:39:52 <matjazp> dbite: disk space is not such a big issue, performance of VMs is bigger
17:40:22 <sarob> Osbash should focus on ease of install and use rather than extra features I think
17:40:45 <dbite> sarob: I agree, but we need to shape features as per the users too
17:40:56 <sarob> Extra stuff is interesting but takes our focus off training
17:40:59 <dbite> thats why I wanted to have another meeting with matjazp about this
17:41:07 <sarob> Debut of course, sure
17:41:14 <matjazp> sarob: sure, but on the other hand, if you can't use it as trainer want to, it will not gain much traction
17:41:16 <sarob> Argg
17:41:37 <sarob> Matjazp understood
17:41:54 <sarob> Matjazp I don't want to be closed minded def
17:41:54 <dbite> sarob: matjazp as of now I think training cluster should be a lot better and have many more features but the point being its a lot of work
17:42:25 <dbite> and we do not want to divert our attention from the main focus on training
17:42:44 <sarob> Dbite +1
17:42:47 <matjazp> dbite: yes, lets just collect feedback from actual users and adapt accordingly
17:43:34 <sarob> Let's collect ideas for future releases but not forget kilo
17:44:01 <dbite> sarob: I agree
17:44:24 <sarob> So let's get our 2015 wheels spinning up
17:44:44 <sarob> Specs, reviews, patches, branching
17:44:52 <sarob> All that stuff
17:44:54 <sarob> ;)
17:45:21 <sarob> I'm very eager to get the slides merged
17:45:41 <sarob> So we can start using and refining them
17:45:52 <matjazp> sarob: exactly...
17:45:53 <dbite> sarob: I can feel your anxiety :| need to wait for the feedback
17:46:21 <sarob> Dbite anxiety not so much, just eager
17:46:48 <sarob> Dbite it's a new year bro, all is well!
17:47:11 <dbite> sarob: yes, happy new year :)
17:47:30 <dbite> sarob: I had a blast this winter :)
17:47:40 <sarob> Sayali the trainees have been bugging me about videos
17:47:45 <sarob> Dbite cool
17:47:53 <matjazp> dbite: tried skiing? :)
17:48:10 <dbite> matjazp: soonish, did not want to do too many new things
17:48:27 <dbite> Ive done a lot of new things
17:48:34 <dbite> these last few months
17:49:08 <sarob> Dbite Cool beans
17:49:24 <sayali> sarob: I have started jotting down stuff for the next video on etherpad
17:50:44 <sayali> sarob: I think in the next two weeks it should be ready
17:50:51 <sarob> Sayali helping install and run osbash for the first time is priority
17:51:03 <sarob> Sayali coolness
17:51:13 <sayali> yep thats the one I am talking about too :)
17:52:00 <sarob> Sayali cool beans
17:52:07 <sarob> That's all I have
17:52:12 <sarob> Anything else?
17:52:23 <matjazp> nope
17:52:56 <sarob> I'll get the rest of the rst patches pushed
17:53:12 <sarob> Y'all have a great week
17:53:45 <sarob> Last call for other stuff
17:54:15 <sarob> I call this a wrap
17:54:24 <sarob> Cheers my friends!
17:54:26 <sayali> cool!
17:55:11 <sarob> #endmeeting
