fungimoving here, but same as i commented in #openstack-tc a moment ago...13:31
fungispotz[m]: i left a comment on your election timeline addition to the release schedule, just want to confirm the right weeks are showing up comparing https://governance.openstack.org/election/ to the draft at https://0a95c5b7efbe472339b9-98861b5cdb7542212187af9468d43e6d.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/openstack/2242a934e2e64da7b93c262759a88a15/docs/hibiscus/schedule.html13:31
opendevreviewIan Y. Choi proposed openstack/election master: [Tool] update_releases_calendar: fix one-week mismatch  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/election/+/99477415:49
ianychoifungi: I am suggesting to a little bit change update_releases_calendar logic via ^ and the revised yaml would be https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/994523/1..2/doc/source/hibiscus/schedule.yaml . It shows election-close during R-1, not R-2 when voting finished. Considering election closing includes final double-check and update governance activites, I think the revised schedule looks fine.16:09
fungii think we somewhat mix up deadlines with other events in there, and am unclear whether the goal is to let people know when they need to submit their votes or when they should expect results to be announced16:12
fungii suppose it depends on whether the intended audience is people voting on candidates or people observing the election process16:13
ianychoiI agree. Asking for opinion to slaweq and gouthamr on above thoughts16:14
fungifor most other (non-election) things that get included in the release schedule, the focus is on deadlines16:20
fungiso applying that to release activities it would be things like deadline to update your e-mail, deadline for extra-ac additions, earliest/latest opportunity to submit nominations, earliest/latest opportunity to vote in the polls16:21
* gouthamr recovers from meetings and looks now20:10
gouthamrhmm, everything looks correct, except all deadlines are off by a week... so fungi are you suggesting we change the event titles to make things obvious somehow? 20:13
gouthamrianychoi revised those last cycle... but, maybe your perspective's different.. some of these are multi-week events unlike all the other scheduled events that have specific deadlines 20:14
fungigouthamr: the change got a revision between my comment and now20:15
gouthamrah! my bad, didn't look at the latest render20:15
fungiand yeah some stuff seemed skewed by rroughly a week20:16
gouthamrstill kinda off? :) but less off than before ianychoi's fix.. 20:19
fungipart of it's going to be that the release schedule is only at weekly granularity and we change election process phases mid-week, and that script is trying to indicate weeks during which those phases are ongoing rather than the weeks in which they start and end, so it's not ever really going to line up20:21
gouthamryeah :( but, as a general signal, this is still good 20:22
fungiand i'm not sure if the goal is to include the weeks when the phases start or the weeks when phases end20:22
gouthamri think it was trying to be accurate by doing both20:22
fungiin which case there will be weeks where it's both nominations and campaigning, or both campaigning and polling20:23
gouthamrbut, that's also confusing perhaps: "Election Campaigning Open" & "Election Polling Open" will happen on the same weeks20:23
fungibecause we switch from one phase to the next in the middle of the week so some of the week is in one phase and some in another20:23
gouthamryeah20:23
gouthamrmaybe that's okay.. fix this script to put down the specific date in description?20:24
gouthamri can do that and see if ianychoi/others think its okay20:24
gouthamr"Please see the Election site for specific timing information."20:24
gouthamr^ it says that right now20:24
gouthamrwe know you're confused, so do this :P 20:25
gouthamris what we appear to be saying.. 20:25
fungiright, which is mainly why i +2'd the schedule addition. it's never going to align precisely anyway20:25
gouthamr++20:26
gouthamraligned with the thought, visibility is the biggest concern to resolve.. 20:26
