CloudChrisxTs_w: give me some infos about the numbers you think are to high and I compare to our setup on SLES here - maybee we find differences ....09:47
xTs_wWell, mostly the 12Gig RAM09:47
xTs_wIf you wanna control just a few nodes then it seems pretty high09:48
xTs_wor the 30 GB disk space09:48
xTs_wthe system itself takes under 1 GB, what's the space for? Also the database?09:48
xTs_wand the volume storage can be a shared storage, or? Like shared with nfs or drbd09:49
xTs_wi just wanna find out what needs so much resources :)09:49
xTs_wbecause I wanna set up the control node for testing purpose in a vm ;)09:50

Vadim<xTs_w>  glance can have local backend and save images local... or you can use swift09:53
FabriceBhi vadim, a little pause on openstack09:53
xTs_wwhat about shared storage? The system itself would see it as local storage, but it's shared among all nodes09:54
GuidoDHi guys, a question about compute service. Who invokes method "create(self, context, instance_type, etc.)" from compute's api ?09:54
siwosit's not yet there xTs_w09:54
xTs_wyou mean no shared storage support?09:54
FabriceBfor image any storage is fine i think09:55
siwosif you mean block device shared across vm-s - it's not there09:55
siwosand afaik there are no plans to create one09:55
xTs_wno, just nodes09:55
siwosthere's nova-volume storage similar to ebs service at amazon cloud09:55
FabriceBglance is for the registration of images, on the node controler09:56
siwosyou can attach iscsi volumes to your instances09:56
xTs_wit's still about figuring out if I can take a vm to test the control node part or if I've got to get a dedicated server...09:56
siwosbut only one volume to one instance09:56
catbotVadim, controller is also a part of one cloud, if the disk of controller is destroyed, then it will be a big problem, because the controller charges all images and volumes09:56
siwosGuidoD: I guess it's the scheduler which calls the method09:56
xTs_wwell, I just give it a try with a VM and see...09:57
*** tryggvil_ has joined #openstack09:58

armaanhello folks, anyone having some idea about ram based scheduling in nova.16:35
*** pasm has quit IRC16:35

armaantjoy: against ??16:38
armaanwhy?16:39
*** mgoldmann has quit IRC16:39
tjoyunless your applications are extremely heavy on memory bandwidth, any other scheduler should consider available RAM16:39

armaanokie..but still in few situations, we may need ram based scheduling.16:42
tjoywhat do you mean ram based scheduling?16:42
*** med_out is now known as medberry16:42

tjoyprioritizing compute nodes by available RAM?16:43
tjoystoring the schedule itself in RAM?16:43
armaanprioritizing compute nodes by available RAM?16:44
tjoywhy would you do that?16:45
tjoymaybe you have a compute node with lots of cores but little RAM, would you want to fill that with CPU-intensive but low-RAM instances?16:45
*** BasTichelaar has quit IRC16:45
*** lorin1 has joined #openstack16:46
tjoyand not stick a high-RAM-usage instance on there and waste the CPUs/16:46
tjoywhy don't you tell me what you're thinking about16:46
armaanwell tjoy  rite now i am just exploring all types of scheduling that can be done in nova.16:47
tjoyok16:48
armaani dont have much idea about ram based scheduling16:48
tjoyso, do you think i just invented it?16:48
armaanso i asked if anyone knows about it16:48
tjoybecause you can put my anem on it16:48
tjoyname16:48
armaan:)16:48
armaantjoy according to you which scheduling algorithm is best for now.16:50

armaantjoy schedule......hmmm cool name for a new algorithm.16:51
