Guest45414so, I'm running a cluster, but I've found that upon initial startup of the proxy server, it takes > 10 minutes before the auth middleware will begin to respond to any queries02:06
Guest45414after it starts responding, everything seems fine02:06
*** MarkAtwood has joined #openstack02:06

notmynamereading the ring files is a cpu-bound task. so 5 tasks sharing 1 core doesn't make for a happy computer03:25

Guest45414My ring files (after compression) are each under 300 KB03:26

Guest45414The data isn't important at all04:04
Guest45414I'm all up for trying crazy04:04
notmynameGuest45414: then I'd suggest making a backup of your current builder files and then recreating your rings (same part power if you want to keep your data, different part power if you don't mind losing it all). since the rings have a random element in their creation, perhaps a different ring may fix it. if there is an edge case with a particular ring layout, then new rings shoudl fix the issue04:05

melmothtrygvis, not sure i understand what "hangs" mean here. But what i do when i do not know what s going on with an image , is 1) euca-get-console output of it13:14
melmothand 2) look on the compute nodes's /var/log/nova/nova-compute.log13:14

trygvismelmoth: isn't the --poll argument meant for it to wait for some sort of ACK that it has booted?13:18
melmothusually, nova commands are asynchornous so you launch them, and then yo wait.. i wonder why in your case, you cannot even launch it13:18
melmothah, may be, i never used this option, no idea what it does :)13:18

melmothok, so it means the compute node are building them.13:19
trygvishow can I tell which compute node it's running on?13:19
melmothi would expect more stuff to happen on tne compute nova-compute.log than just telling it can conect to rabbit13:19
melmothwith nova, i do not know. With euca-describe-instance it tells you wich compute node it s on13:19
kviiriMachines can hang in BUILD state and remain in it indefinitely13:20

notmynamerosco_: it really depends. swift already supports HTTP range requests, so if the protocol being used is HTTP, then it's sortof ok (eg with HTML5 video). if you are using flash (ie RTMP), you need a server component. either way, you still need the ability server-side to handle keyframes in the video. that's something that is external to swift18:09

Glace_A server will always die even if you buy the best hardware possible18:40
Glace_Swift is meant to be run on cheap hardware since the software handles the replication18:40

guimalufyep.18:42
guimalufinstances*18:43
Glace_So I would suggest at least 2 servers with the proxy service on.. You can always use dns  round robinto load balance between the two if you do not want anything complicated and you do not need ssl18:43
guimalufI'm a little bit insecure about my cloud project. I couldn't plan anything :/18:44
