JoeJulianWhat I'm looking for is to use my existing isc dhcp server to assign addresses. I was hoping that was what that did, but I configured that and set nova-network to my dhcp server, but it doesn't seem to do that. Should it? Or (better yet) is there a way?01:02

rootardmikal: I imagine that could actually be costly. The upload only fails about 500 MBs in but a user attempting to reupload something a bunch of times could quickly fill space. Unless you are watching closely (which I imagine people are not) swift will just have a bunch of extra entries floating around that may never be cleaned up.07:08

oneiroiSkyMan, your compute nodes will need access to the 0mq service (rabbitmq / qpid) on your controller, aswell as mySQL if relevant and glance.12:24
oneiroiperhaps swift too if you are using it12:24

oneiroiSkyMan, _IF_your controller is running the services, @ the compute nodes, if nothing else just ssh so you can get to the host, nova-network should handle the rest12:26
oneiroiSkyMan, also I would only open them to the compute nodes i.m.o. the 0mq service for one iirc does not utilize any authentication12:26

acadielHi, all - I'm having an issue getting nova-network up and running on a CentOS 6.3 system.  All other services are running :-).  Nova is 2012-1.7 from EPEL.  Have an untagged eth0 and two vlan devices - one for the management of the server (on a certain vlan) and the other vlan is a basic vlan without any interfaces on the switch, etc - i.e. Openstack has the whole vlan to itself.  When I18:33
acadielstart openstack-nova-network, I just get one line saying it's started, no other diag info.  All other services are starting ok.  Thoughts?18:33
acadielone line in the logfile, I mean... is there a way I can enable a debug to get more info in /var/log/nova/network.log ?18:33
acadielI did run nova-manage network create for the network (10.0.118.128/27) and see it when I do a nova-manage network list.  I also see the vlan, bridge, and bridge interface in the nova.networks section of the db18:35

notmynameDieterbe: here's an idea: write a manifest for each upload. as you get the data, send it to swift as transfer-encoding chunked to one or more (depending on size) swift objects that are referenced by the manifest. on client disconnect, your staging server sends the \r\n0\r\n\r\n to end the chunked stream. the object is written and referenceable by the manifest. client resumes and you start writing to a new swift object20:16
notmynamezykes-: network disconected? disk IO overwhelmed by concurrent operations?20:17
zykes-notmyname: no not disconnected20:18

Dieterbenotmyname: okay so your idea is basically what i had in mind.  i just have to use transfer-encoding chunked to make it actually work20:34
notmynameya. and you have the edge case that you lose the last chunk if your staging server goes down20:35
notmyname*last uploaded chunk20:35
Dieterbeyeah but that's not a big problem20:36
notmynameDieterbe: and you can control the chunk size in swift by setting your staging box to start writing to a new object after XX bytes20:37
*** DavidLevin has joined #openstack20:37
Dieterbehowever, we support "resume at arbitrary position" feature for clients.  sensible clients will of course resume from where they left off (they can even ask us for the byte offset, which we can query from swift), but i'm a bit concerned that some clients will want to resume from the bad position (somewhere halfway a segment in swift)20:38
notmynameDieterbe: as an interesting side-effect, if you set each object to the same size, your cluster will have very good balance of the fullness of every drive :-)20:39
notmynameDieterbe: ya, I don't see how that will work for swift. they can't write after the end (ie have a gap) and unless they are on an object boundary, they can't overwrite old data (ie you can't to partial writes in swift)20:40

Dieterbewe would disallow the gap thing for sure.  i'm looking if we can disallow resume from somewhere else than segment boundary20:43
Dieterbenotmyname: btw are you aware of any automatic swift ingestion stuff? (something like a python script that scans a directory, submits all files to swift, removes the files on disk, and starts inotify watches to automatically do the same for any newly appearing files)20:45
*** matiu has quit IRC20:45
notmynameDieterbe: not that does all of that. bin/swift in python-swiftclient and swiftly are two CLI tools that can to do the directory upload (with diff support, I think). the rest would be up to you20:46
