sniperdnotmyname: yeah, its truncated like that in the log, I have re-run swauth-prep, but I was thinking it maybe just needs to rebalance or something along those lines00:01

szaydelkieppie: Sharing block devices with multiple hosts that will have concurrent access, especially with LVM is a good way of corrupting data. I am not sure about how folks generally handle it, but I normally advise that a LUN exposed for consumption by LVM is only visible to one node at a time. Obviously in a cloud env. this is not a good option.01:59

kieppieThe swift3 middleware now lives outside of Swift itself. You can find it on Github here: https://github.com/fujita/swift303:52
kieppieIt was pulled out due to an OpenStack policy change regarding third-party APIs, namely that they don't belong in the core projects. Summary here: http://www.openstack.org/blog/2012/05/community-weekly-review-may-4-11/03:52

mmontg1having issues with the following command after following multiple guides to testing including openstack, and hastexo.  would anyone be able to give me some insight?  I'd appreciate it.04:23

kieppieclarkb, dolphm - is there an official rackspace address I can contact that I can email a zipped copy of my configs (& DB) to once I'm done, for analysis, so that the fixes I made can be comitted into the docco's?04:25
*** vipul has quit IRC04:25
kieppieI have a very hard time seeing how *anyone* would be able to do a install using the information provided04:25
clarkbkieppie: the documentation is technically independent of rackspace so an official email there probably doesn't do much good04:25
kieppiemmontg1 - drop the --os-*04:25
clarkbkieppie: that said annegentle (here on IRC) is the docs person04:26

dolphmkieppie: doccos == docs? or are you referring to something specific? lol04:26
dolphmkieppie: what do you mean 'drop the --os-*' ? as in, don't authenticate on the CLI?04:27
kieppiedolphm - yip, several04:27
kieppiedolphm - the CLI is --username=admin, not --os-username=admin, etc04:28
notmynamekieppie: most (if not all) of the swift config options are documented at http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/deployment_guide.html. You can also look at the sample configs at https://github.com/openstack/swift/tree/master/etc. All of the defaults are commented out. The non-commented lines are the required config lines04:28
kieppiekeystone —help show correct args, but it's not uniform. there's also a lot of deplicated args in there04:29
dolphmkieppie: --username is deprecated in favor of --os-username04:29
kieppienotmyname - thanks04:29
mmontg1same error.  as others are mentioning here, it seems that --username is deprecated.  any other ideas?  thanks so far guys...04:30
kieppiedolphm - one way or another - can't recall all the tweaks I've don any more - all a bit of a blur  by now04:30
dolphmkieppie: varies according to the release you're looking at of course, but we're standardizing on  OS_* env args and --os-* cli args04:30
dolphmmmontg1: have you verified your username exists?04:31
notmynamekieppie: there are a lot of swift-specific docs at http://swift.openstack.org and a lot of general tech info about swift at http://swiftstack.com/openstack-swift/04:31
kieppie@ the guide, one consistent variation I had to use (folsom @ 12.04) was keystone --token $TOKEN --endpoint http://$IP:35357/v2.004:32
dolphmmmontg1: keystone logs may also give a more specifics as to why authentication was denied04:32

dolphmmmontg1: it looks like 'admin' doesnt exist, do you have any tenants or roles defined (tenant-list, role-list)?04:36
dolphmmmontg1: P.S. you're actually bypassing authentication by providing an explicit endpoint, so i'm guessing you have a SERVICE_TOKEN defined in your env04:37
dolphmmmontg1: oh whoops, just noticed you had --token=hastexo04:37
dolphmmmontg1: in that case, --token and --endpoint are being used to bypass auth (so --os-username and --os-auth-url are being ignored)04:37

notmynamekieppie: heh. the swift configs :-)04:53
kieppiebtw @ https://raw.github.com/openstack/swift/master/etc/account-server.conf-sample <- no occurences of "cont"04:53
notmynamekieppie: since swift is a python web server, it uses wsgi (a standard python thing). wsgi allows you to have plugins (called "middleware"). pastedeploy allows defining that in a config in a straightforward way04:54
notmynamekieppie: you have the "pipeline" which is a list of the other sections in the config file04:54
kieppiesimilar to `source` in bash?04:55
notmynamekieppie: and the sections reference either the app (the last thing in the pipeline) or the middleware and can have specific config values for that plugin/app04:55
notmynamekieppie: not quite. source loads the referenced file. this is similare (in pseudocode) to "plugin1(plugin2(plugin3(app(request))))"04:56
notmynamekieppie: so each middleware can see the request and response as it flows down the pipeline04:56

gmiin Essex (multi-host+VLAN mode), is there a way to not allow instances without floating IPs to make external traffic? because without a floating IP, an instance would SNAT as the compute host's public IP and there is no easy way to account for this traffic20:31

dolphmGuest97477: ah, in that case, you need to bootstrap an admin user... use the --os-token from keystone.conf's admin_token, and an endpoint, e.g. --os-endpoint=http://localhost:35357/v2.0/23:29

dolphmGuest97477: you'll need to create a new tenant, an 'admin' role (as defined by keystone's policy.json) and a new user, then grant the role to the user on the tenant23:34
dolphmGuest90383: the name of the tenant doesn't matter, although there's a convention for using 'demo' or 'admin' in the docs23:34

metralanyone seen the metadata service just randomly not be accessible? on a compute node with multi host and the metadata service running locally on each node, vm's (ubuntu) randomly have cloud-init crash because they can't access the metadata service, even though its up and accessible and other vm's on the same host boot up just fine. issues seen are on launchpad: https://answers.launchpad.net/nova/+question/15252223:37
metralhttps://answers.launchpad.net/nova/+question/176946 but its still sporadically happening23:38
