fricklerweird things people do ...07:13
lajoskatonabauzas: Hi, the blueprint for the IOThread support: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/iothreads-for-instances , thanks for the good discussion and the many-many good ideas :-)08:31
bauzaslajoskatona: np, I approved the blueprint08:56
lajoskatonabauzas: thanks09:14
qwebirc25684Hi! Can we use a Intel Cache Allocation Technology(CAT) in OpenStack VM now? I could find information about Cache Monitoring Technology. but I couldn' find about CAT? 10:08
*** bauzas_ is now known as bauzas10:12
sean-k-mooneyqwebirc25684 no CAT is not supported in openstack.12:01
fricklermaybe someone can check my finding regarding regular failures in sdk jobs and tell me if that sounds plausible https://bugs.launchpad.net/openstacksdk/+bug/2085654/comments/312:16
sean-k-mooneygibi: can you take a look at https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/923738 and the followup quickly12:26
sean-k-mooneyfrickler: ya thats possible. anyh tempest test that do things like disaabling a comptue shoudl be tagged with teh serial decorator and run later12:27
sean-k-mooneywhen you disable a compute we do add a trait to it in placement12:28
sean-k-mooneywhich does need to be removed before placement will allwo it to be slected again12:28
sean-k-mooneythere isnt much of a delay to renabling it on the nova side its bacically just a db update12:29
sean-k-mooneybut if there are concurrent tests runnign then it could fail12:29
sean-k-mooneyfrickler: i would proably try skiping the service update test and see if it stablises12:29
gibisean-k-mooney: done I'm +A on both. Could you check the evac RPC bugfix https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:%22bug/2085975%22 ?13:20
sean-k-mooneysure oh this is the downstream thing we were chatting about a week or two ago13:20
sean-k-mooneyright i started looking at that before and got distracted i can take a look now13:21
gibiyeah it is from last week downstream prio investigation :)13:22
sean-k-mooneycool i wanteded to run this in a loop for a bit first to make sure it was stable but ill do that while im reviewing13:24
gibiyeah I have two green results in a row from the fix patch (only respun to amend the commit message) feel free to recheck it 13:25
sean-k-mooneyi dont think that is required i will just run that test in tox locally in the backgorund for 10 mints13:26
sean-k-mooneyi think it will be fine looking at it13:26
fricklersean-k-mooney: good idea about skipping the test, will try that13:59

elodilles(i've removed the placement periodic jobs for unmaintained branches)16:07
elodilleszed? :-o16:07
sean-k-mooney we are not currently filtering only to stable branches16:08
sean-k-mooneywe probaly should update the query16:08
elodilleshmm, i see, the zed jobs are for nova. i'll remove that too then16:09
bauzaswhy ? we just look at all periodics this way16:09
sean-k-mooneybecasue we dont maintian the unmained branches16:09
sean-k-mooneyso we shoudl not be looking at them16:09
sean-k-mooneywe suhould just look at https://zuul.openstack.org/builds?project=openstack%2Fnova&project=openstack%2Fplacement&branch=stable%2F*&branch=master&pipeline=periodic-weekly&skip=016:10
sean-k-mooneyelodilles: i assume you would still like use to keep the older unmained/* branches for a bit longer16:11
bauzasokay, then I'll amend that 16:11
elodillessean-k-mooney: yepp16:12
sean-k-mooneythats fine we can keep them while you still get value from them16:12
elodillesthough i guess the periodic-weekly jobs are not relevant for unmaintained branches16:12

bauzasfwiesel: around ?16:35
fwieselSo, I found a race-conditon in the setup. The network agent was not always yet up, when the tests started. I delay now the tests for that.16:36
fwieselThere is still occasionally a "random" error, which leads me to suspect that the agent is still not yet 100% there, even when registered in neutron. I'll dig into that.16:37
fwieselBut we are now back to 2-4 failing tests, and two of them are real errors.16:37
fwieselbauzas: Back to you.16:38

qwebirc88614Hi Everyone, I am new to community. I am part of the engineering team at Webex, and we use openstack heavily for our IaaS layer. I am seeking mentorship to contribute to nova project. Things are very new to me and I dont know where to get started. 16:40
gibiqwebirc88614: I think this is the starting point of our contributor doc https://docs.openstack.org/nova/latest/contributor/index.html16:41
sean-k-mooneyqwebirc88614: are there paticallar topic or quetions you had?16:42
qwebirc88614gibi: Thanks for the resource. In particular, I would like to know how we setup a development environment specifically for the Nova project 16:43
sean-k-mooneyqwebirc88614: for unit/functional/style check we use a tool called tox. for general developemnt we use a tool called devstack 16:44
tkajinamdevstack => https://docs.openstack.org/devstack/latest/16:44
sean-k-mooneyin general we recommend using a dedicated vm or machine for devstack16:44
sean-k-mooney8Gram 6-8 cpus 25-80G of disk space16:45
sean-k-mooneymost of us use ubuntu for devleopemtn but you can use rocky/centos/fedora too16:45
qwebirc88614sean-k-mooney: thanks I will start using a dedicated VM for the same. are there a set of good first issue to get started ? and can I post my questions and doubts in the same IRC channel ? 16:47
sean-k-mooneyoutside of the meeting feel free to disucss on the irc channel or mailing list16:47
sean-k-mooneythe irc channel is here to supprot peopel developing nova which woudl now include you :)16:48
sean-k-mooneywe have some bugs tagged as low haning fuit16:48
sean-k-mooneybut if you tell us what your insterested in we can proably find something for you16:49
sean-k-mooneyqwebirc88614: i assume you have some specific areas of interest?16:49

bauzassure, I'll try16:50
bauzascan we close the meeting ?16:51
sean-k-mooneyi think so?16:51
qwebirc88614Sean-k-mooney: Apologies if my questions are a bit broad at the moment – I’m just getting started and finding my way. In particular, I dont have an area of interest currently. 16:51
qwebirc88614bauzas: will connect with you to know more. 16:52
