winston-dHi, I've got some questions about Nova networking.02:23
winston-dIn example here: http://nova.openstack.org/adminguide/network.vlan.html.  It's said that the port of production vlan should be configured as trunk port on switch.  Does it mean that the switch should support transparent vlan mode?02:27
winston-dAnd where can I configure how many vlan VlanManager uses?02:27

jeremybheh, not terribly noteworthy16:19
jeremybbut thanks16:20
notmynamewedjat: since the data is distributed evenly across all drives, when the first drive is full, the cluster will start responding with out-of-space errors for some PUT requests16:20
jeremybnelson__: i think you can have any number of proxies (some run on all nodes, some like rackspace run dedicated nodes just to proxy)16:20
*** ibarrera has quit IRC16:20
jeremybnelson__: auth is your own middleware and you should probably design it so that you can run more than one16:21
wedjatnotmyname: ok, i see, but the cluster will just for some requests, not for all ?16:21
wedjat*fail for some16:21
nelson__I'm thinking yes.16:21
notmynamewedjat: yes. but since you can't control where stuff goes in the cluster, you don't know which requests will fail16:22
jeremybnelson__: the other servers like container and account idk how they're normally done but you definitely run several at once16:22
jeremybnelson__: and (per convo with gholt) container/account servers maintain a leader and ops will hit the leader by default. (unlike objects where it's just whoever responds first with a 200)16:23
notmynamejeremyb: RAX runs account+container+object nodes in one16:23
wedjatnotmyname: ok. i believed that when a request fail, the proxy could retry it with another one...16:23
jeremybbut it's a leader per container not a leader for all containers?16:24
notmynamewedjat: yes, but that will start to get things out of balance in the cluster. it's a much better idea to add storage space16:24
gholtjeremyb: Well, not 100% exactly. If the container server doesn't have that container db at all, it'll go to the next container server and try.16:24
wedjatnotmyname: ok, now i understand :)16:24
wedjatnotmyname: thanks16:24
jeremybgholt: but is that because something's wrong or it's a normal thing that happens?16:25
jeremyb(when the container server doesn't have a container)16:26
gholtIt's normal if say, a drive just failed, got replaced, a new server just got added and rebalancing is still taking place, really high load on the primary server, etc.16:26
jeremybok16:26
jeremybbut it's not the stable, final state of a healthy cluster when you remove all outside access to it and let it settle down16:27
gholtTrue, but in a settled system a specific object get would also always be from the same object server.16:29
gholtThe logic currently is: grab x nodes from y ring and try them in order until success. It's just that with container listings, success is just dependent on the container db being there, not that it necessarily has all the objects listed (yet).16:31
gholtKind of like how if the first object node has an older copy of the object, you'll get that on an object get until replication gets things settled again.16:31
